Hello! For any serious biking, consider raising your bike seat up to about the handlebars. You might think this is insane, but your legs should be fully extended at the bottom of the downstroke for the most energy efficient pedaling. This allows you to go farther, faster, and easier. This is advice from every serious biker I know, including multiple first place winners from '90s Minnesota competitions. (edit) So perhaps not fully extended, because locking your knees "can be dangerous" (is what they tell me). But like 95% extension is better than 30% extension.
@@usernamesta3334 Nah man, I completely respect the volume of people who keep their seat low. 1. It's more difficult for a beginner to mount & dismount the bike with a higher seat. It's not intuitive to a beginner, so tons of people never know. 2. MTB riders and other trick-focused riders prefer a lower seat so they can throw their body weight up, down, forward, and back to perform technical maneuvers and absorb jumps with their legs. 3. With a low seat, you can still cycle efficiently by standing on the pedals, so technically you can have the best of both worlds with enough skill on a low seat. When I hit dirt trials, I drop my seat way low. When I'm riding to travel a distance, I put my seat back up high.
your legs shouldn't be FULLY extended at the bottom of the pedal stroke... maybe when you put your heel on the pedal but not when you're pedaling normally
Your videos are sick man, keep going as long as it feels right. This is the kindof thing I think we should all do at some point. You got a venmo or anything? Would love to send a few bucks for some food or cigs
You should raise your seat height a little bit more, it improves pedal efficiency due to full leg extension and reduces muscle pain in the thighs. Both of those will allow you to go farther and faster with less effort.
the algorithm brought me here and I'm so glad it did! stay safe and keep going! not sure if this is your first rodeo but deff get some good food in you if you can! i like your style - looking forward to seeing more
Hello ... I'm new to your channel; having found it a moment ago. I'm a cyclist but not touring/over the road long haul. Vrry inspiring and quite intellectually thought-provoking. Thank you!
HAHA I KNOW that feeling wih physical exertion and happiness totally real, and i forget and I am reminded every time I move houses, that my body is HAPPY with TOUGH physical exertion
The loss of luxury and the reintroduction of real necessities. That is what a true man seeks in our age of societal constipation. However, should we yield?
It's an uneasiness that builds up inside as we walk into a grocery store or sit down at our desks. Conformation is not our way, neither is rejection. Nihilism is all that remains. Just be and make do. To ride, aimlessly, is like a silent protest. Finally you are no longer in society but rather beside it, you're riding the emergency lane, pressured by traffic raging on your left, the false sense of security of the guardrail on your right. In this midst you find identity, it's you and your bike at the place you now belong. A strong sense of direction emerges and the determination to follow it, wherever it may lead. The sun sets and night falls, now even your senses have abandoned you. A soft and cool headwind clears out and washes of all that remained inside. Finally there is space again. You can take it all in and rekindle your unspoiled excitement. You have somewhere you need to be.
You should get a different bike for touring/bike packing. That bike is for casual cruising, not for going big distances. Which is probably one of the reasons why your body hurts as much as it does
