I'm now wondering if this would work on canvas, and if so...if it could be used to make a hand sewn canvas/leather bag without any visible canvas edges.

It should work just the same. If you do it with leather binding, it will make the seams stiffer and provide a little extra structure- not a lot, because you are using a thinner piece of leather.

      Great question

So if I had to guess, an easy way to figure out width, take a piece of paper, lay it over the piece being covered, and use that to visualize how far the banding goes. Then cut the paper and use that as a template on the INSIDE of the banding(because if you use the outside it'll be off by 2x the thickness of the banding at a minimum).

Another super helpful lesson. Thank you. Question. Any tricks for figuring out how wide your binding strap should be? Seems like there are a few variables like the thickness of the piece and where you place your stitch line.

It would be very helpful if you shared how and what the calculations were to figure out the proper size/width of the edge banding I am sure it does change with various thickness of the material people are using but I am sure that you had some sort of source of way to get a basic size But it wasn't shared in this video

Thank you so very much for this video.
I have been trying to figure this out for 3 weeks now and every time I tried it, it always looked horiable.
Who would have guessed that the secret was not to use glue... go figure.

They are called Loxx Quick Release Snaps. They come in multiple finishes and are available at many leather supply houses such as Buckle Guy and Rocky Mountain Leather Supply. They do require a special key tool to install, but it’s always listed with the snaps and costs around $4 USD. I find them easy to install and they give your work a unique look. Happy crafting!
