  • I got a laser tube from a buddy to test my power supplies for my 300w laser cutter, the 30pw won't fire and just arcs to chassis. So it's the tube or the power supply. But first we had to repair the tube before we could use it.

    I use to build my own flow thru co2 lasers years ago. Get my gases at a welding supply house. They will mix each gas for you into the same tank. 4.5% co2 13.5% nitrogen and balance is helium. hopes this helps

    Would love to have the info on the amount of c02 in the tubes myself. I've accidentally broken 2 myself. Right where the power wires connect.

    Was there a follow up video on the repair of the bigger tube ? Did u get the gas ?

    What type of machine do you have? And did you tuned it up with 300w Laser? Or was it 300w from factory? Lots of questions, but I am thinking of getting a hobby size machine and refit with a bigger laser for cutting metal.

      TheStig I bought the machine 3years ago from of all places a manufacturing facility in China. They where awesome. AOL laser. Dumb name, good service. Quality was OK. Z-axis Table arrived broken and tube ended up not working. But I did order the biggest tube available at the time, which was 300w. Now you can order then with 600w. I'm going to be honest, if you want to cut metal. Don't bother. Build a plasma cam. Or order a mini water jet machine. Lasers are for wood and plastics. Any non metal. I have a couple projects etching metal and cutting other parts on my Instagram @bartkoscow I'm happy to answer any questions you have here or on my whatsapp. +1-416-five.two.zero.49.one.eight. Hi mate, Nice video on how to fix that tube. I have a question about the lens on the tube. Because mine has a crack. it is possible to remove that lens stick on the tube and replace it, do you think the gas on the tube will disappear? I am talking about the lens on the negative where the beam exit. thank you.

      Ashvin Krrish it's a 2part epoxy. I used a structural epoxy meant for golding trucks together. But just Google "bodyshop supply" and your home town. And ask them for the best ridged 2part epoxy they have. Thisbisnt golding any pressure. But the ridged as apposed to a flexible epoxy bonds to glass better.

    I have 130 W laser tube. its outer glass is filled with water the expert told me that it is cracked and that's why the water followed in the outer tube. Is it correct and i have to change the tube or is this repairable.

    • @portabuddy
      @portabuddy  4 года назад

      Sadly they are right. The outer glass is a gas chamber. There should never be any moisture in there. The tube you have is no good.

    Hi Bart. I know, it's been a long time since this video was posted. But have you had any luck getting gasses and refilling your tube? .. I'm afraid that my 300W laser tube will need refill too (looks like it has a metal valve on the body) .. Getting any kind of information about refilling tube is almost impossible. But I understand, because newly manufactured tubes need to be sold. That's how the economy works. Greetings from Slovakia!

    that's means we most have very pure gas to repair a laser tube ?

    gas ratios are 3:2:1 helium to nitrogen to carbon dioxide

    • @jacekolejniczak8726
      @jacekolejniczak8726 4 года назад

      There is meny different ratios. All depends on laser construction. But this kind of mixture works only on flow lasers, not sealed. Sealed lasers need much more complicated mixture and high vacuum.

    Hello my friends, my name is Leonidas, I am from Brazil, I have been reading and studying about co2 laser tubes for a year, I have read more than 20 articles, even from NASA, I bought books on Amazon, but unfortunately I cannot recondition a laser tube, something is missing something I don't know what it is.
    I need help from someone in the group who can help me, I am on the other side of the planet, I would not disturb anyone's business, I just want to learn.
    What CO2 laser catalyst do I find to buy?
    There is a secret of the aging of the gas in the laser tube in its decay can someone explain to me how to do it?
    About the vacuum pumps for filling the tube, which is the best?
    what are the best suppliers you know?

    You might be able to buy some Helium at a Air filling station for divers. Just an idea :)

      I ordered the ultra high purity gasses from a Welding place. This is lab grade gas. I found a testing place in the states, took a sample from the tube and I'm sending it out to see what concentration of gasses are in there.

    • @portabuddy
      @portabuddy  6 лет назад +1

      I just got the gasses in right before I went on vacation. Back now. No some testing will happen. It takes time to get UHP lab grade gas. Not expensive. But not anyone just has UHP helium laying around. Well.. I do now. Not no welding supply places. Had to get the UHP nitrogen brought up from the one and only gas supplier in Mane.

    JB WELD not really a good choice for an epoxy resin on something like that when it gets hot it expands and flexes

    • @portabuddy
      @portabuddy  5 лет назад +1

      It's not JB weld. It's a body pannel bonding epoxy. The kind that comes in a double calking gun tube and mixing nozzle. This one is used to affix truck roofs to the cab. It's semi flexible and has a working range from - 30 to +150f

    your equation is confusing. 60x2=120 check.. then its 150/2=75 .. ??? your tube is 300w right?, and the tube your repairing is 60w? so where does the 150w tube enter the chat? asking because i have a broken 150w tube and need to know if this equation is something to go by when it comes to setting max power.

      nm just noticed the bit about your pwr supply being 150w.
