I think everything you've ever made was Beautiful and fun to look at . Whimsical and you can't help ,but, to smile when you see it. Wow ,with vivid colors.

      Dearest Zmrs Kemp:
I don’t think you knew, when you wrote this Comment, what you were saying, fully to me. You see, (it’s the part about that “you can’t help but to smile”). Well, it was exactly the words I said one morning in my darkest days. It might even be why we still seem to exist today and shall, forever more.
You see. The early days of our work were harder than we can express. I immediately block them out so that I can go forward with no memories, or else I might carry the dare days with me until they would drag me into obliquity.
I had to sleep on the cold cement floor of my studio out at our house in King Ferry that night because, to catch the cones drop just at the right moment. Those last moments in the process, lying in the dust on my sore side, having to keep allert so as not to miss the moment when I could pull the arm down to shut it down, and drag my scrubby body back inside, down the path to the back doors and curl up to Richard for a few bits of cuddly sleep, warm and tender before dawn again.
Well, during that laps in the actions needed -betwixt constant waiting and constant desire for comfort … I happened to catch a glimpse of a cup up on the long shelf which encircled the old machine shop (now studio).
There, alone, like a stone , cold and still stood this little cup. It was from earlier in the experimental periods.
For some reason, it made me smile. The smile broke through the long struggl of sleepless night and a new dawn of light and promise.
It somehow just tickled me, this little cup and this little smile. It was so odd and seemingly way out of place from the edge of obscurity. I thought, “Gosh, you are looking at me just to remind me why I keep going. It’s because you make me smile.”
Nothing ever did that, but a child, or animal, or a funny little ditty, like “A Little Green Frog” song I would sing to Heather … you know, no inanimate object would catch me off guard like this, even in the dark of a hard, cold night … and MAKE a smile appear!
In that moment and that small winky conversation, I realized God is here, ready in my smallest hopes, to bring the light I need. I knew why I was to continue.
Because other people would say that “it makes me smile”. And I know it was the gift I must pursue, no matter how much the art world shunned it at the moment (you know, making dishes so we could see Heather again, instead of important works … sculpture, & the like.
Mrs Kemp, what you said … isn’t it an indication that Divine Love is within us all and in all times, heals the world, if we are forces to give up our own ego-bound reason and follow His lead, “endure to the end”?
Thank you. Lately, I had felt so smothered in work that I had almost forgotten.
      Ever-gratefully, Victoria

      Hello Brend, thanks for commenting.
Your observations of vintage versus creative style were insightful, as, the beauty & challenges of a progressive culture is to be flexible to a see through flimsy fashion to both the style and mission of the past whilst leaping into the future with a grasp on the past in one hand and the secret blend of a mission statement, fresh methods, promise of surprise, and transition through that juxtaposition.
Like a badge of courage or a Medal of Honor, “signet” boldly steps out with a possible shoe toe 🤭 ornament as a bolo round the neck. It is regal, masculine, feminine, flippant to it all, and furling forward from solemnity and, dare we say, the gusto of “whimsy” with measured elegance.

Thank you, Liz. I have felt a little scattered of late. My work has taken me away from public appearance, … I just can’t keep up with the details of appearance. What I like about your comment is that it shows style is a spiritual expression and it comes shining through to the viewer with vision for humility, grace, joy, honor, and … somehow those qualities make up a foundation for expression which do not depend upon constant maintenance.
Oh, thank you for your spiritual seeking and receiving!
