- The Sound live! La edad de oro, Madrid University, Spain, October 3, 1984. This was the encore of the show. Hence the band coming onstage at the onset of the clip. Touchingly, Adrian dedicates the song to Ian Curtis (R.I.P.) and New Order.
All I know is that the Sound lived in my walkman when I used to walk around as a teenager. When I found Adrian was dead a few months after the fact I felt complete remorse that someone who did so much for me when I was down and alone, was dead.
It almost makes me cry. I haven't listened to them in so long. They are brilliant. This band is killer, awesome, tender, sweet and unforgettable,
The mixture of hope and desperation is heartwrenchingly beautiful
you said what was needed
Rock in Peace Adrian!
This is the best song by THE SOUND, undoubtedly! I couldn't stop listening to FROM THE LIONS MOUTH all Summer 1982. It supported the depression I had. Life made no sense. I was only 15.
At 28, I started a psychotherapy. One of the best things I've ever done. Now, at almost 42, I feel happy. All the nightmares from back then seem to belong to a prehistorical phase of my life.
I'm 47 and I can't explain, or even understand why his music is helping me so much ❤️
I'm 30 and I this this music has beaty thank you adrian
100 % agree with you, this song its de most beautifull and sad i ever hear
Think about Adrian every day. It's crazy how now that he's gone, this song is recolored to the point it feels like it's about him. He showed me that silence can speak louder than words. Miss you, buddy.
Literally the most beautiful song ever written
I have their complete collection, and after all these years, I still listen to them pretty much everyday! They had it all, and no one really knew - essentially they never sold out, they really did it - their way!
This breaks my heart 💔 miss you forever Adrian
amazing band and vocalist. I occasionally chat to Mike Dudley the drummer of The Sound!
Bloody genius. You don't see it often and when you do its tinged with sadness - how can someone like Adrian Borland no longer be around? I hope the rest of the guys are living long and happy lives.
tears:
"Words end in disaster
On the rocks, in pieces
I know something lives on there
But I can't say what it is"
Never fails to bring a wee tear to the eye...Adrian you are a legend mate!
Thunder in the air
Before a storm that rips
Anger in my heart
A finger on my lips
You showed me that silence
That haunts this troubled world
You showed me that silence
Can speak louder than words
Words end in disaster
On the rocks, in pieces
I know something lives on there
But I can't say what it is
This is a GREAT song, THE SOUND was an epic band I love them. Thanks for Sharing.
ABSOLUTELY.... A MYTHOS!
Saw The Sound a couple of times in the UK. Once supporting Echo & The Bunnymen and another time sharing the bill with Comsat Angels. Fantastic gigs. I was too young to appreciate the emotion in their work then but, damn, do I ever now. I'll never get tired of listening to The Sound. RIP Adrian...
Great Adrian , plays and sings in your peaceful world. Forever inside me......
graet gr ron
Happy 58th birthday, Adrian! There are many people who deserve to reach that age (and higher!) and you were definitely among them. It's been 5 years since I've discovered your music and I'm still loving it and always will.
Nice one
The mixture of hope and desperation is breathtakingly beautiful
Kein Nasem nice!
Absolutely brilliant performance!!
Adrian's improvisational solos remind me of Gang of Four's Andy Gill. Very angular, sharp and biting. The perfect contrast to the smooth back up of the band.
What a tragedy...you are deeply missed.
Always keep coming back to this video. Superb
One of the best live versions of this great song. I love how they extended the song way longer than the studio version. It captures even more the atmosphere and feeling of the song.
Charlie
Thunder in the air,
Before a storm that rips,
Anger in my heart,
A finger on my lips,
You showed me that silence,
That haunts this troubled world,
You showed me that silence
Can speak louder than words
Words end in disaster
On the rocks, in pieces,
I know something lives on there,
But I can't say what it is,
You showed me that silence,
That haunts this troubled world,
You showed me that silence
Can speak louder than words.
still my favorite band of all time, Adrian had the gift that i only wish i could have had half of. he is that artists that it feels like he is speaking MY words.
Glad to hear that, mate. I'm 17, and this band IS my therapy. They're hitting me with machine gun consistency - I've found practically every song I stumble upon EXACTLY what I'm feeling.
A perfect band for my transition.
Now you're 28... how do you feel now...

I remember this tour. Good times
I strongly recommend to anyone who likes the sound, but not familiar with their whole discography, their live album called "the sound in the hothouse", the one before they break up..it's the music at it's best..genuine singing, heartfelt melodies and some musical composition that hardly anyone has ever attained since...If I had to listen to one single album before I die, it would be it...
I listen to that album at least once a month.
I agree with that , one last hear before my last breath
I ' ve been "Cold Turkey" from the harddrugs on "Winning"......played it over for a hundred times. And I did "Winning". !!!!!!!!! It saved my life.........
In that years, i saved money and i bought The Sound LPs, all pearls and every time i was so happy; it was everything for me, a passion i still have in the depth of my heart.
How many times i listened to your songs!
You showed me that silence, thanks the Sound/Adrian Borland, you will be always in my heart.
Happy birthday ,al mejor de los mejores
Adrian forever 🖤🖤🖤
Absolutely. I'm thankful they were around for as long as they were, to put out such a great breadth of music. Adrian's missed...but I'd rather think about the music he left for everyone.
This video made me feel sade, quiet peacefully.....yes, at the end put a smile on my face... I feel really close to this man ... I m from Argentina, almost anybody know about this band ... but i want them to be hear from people who loves music.
Yes
Thanks for this moment in time.
SO DARK AND NOSTALGIC......SO PURE....NEVER EQUAL NOWADAYS.....I LOVE..!!!
Absolutely masterpiece , and absolutely giant BAND, In fact the most underrated band in english post punk new wave history
Aw. I wondered why it got such a low rating when it's absolutely phenomenal!
This song introduces me in a "thoughtfull" mood. Helps me understand whats is happening, makes me conteplate the fact.
Always end up in this song, when i get this feeling of " "Words end in disaster
On the rocks, in pieces
-....I know something lives on there .... But I can't say what it is"
Moments , experiences, that just happen, and you feel they´re inside you ... but you can´t say , you have no words ... So, JUST FEEL IT...
Nice touch dedicating this to Ian Curtis . Awesome
At the end of the track, the guitar solo has the style of JOY DIVISION...
ruclips.net/video/MGpBi8HtY1A/видео.html Marina, so very true😎👍🏻👍🏻
@@keith9482 thanks a lot for the link, very interesting!
saw them in italy in 1983
They always bring up a melancholy of the years gone without return. they are the smell of my teenhood.
Never came down under' like so many others of their elk' did in the early 80's so unfortunate not to see this band live! Beautiful track !
This really is so *amazing*...
Love them
Imposible otro igual
L'anima è verità ed il vero non è di tutti nell'arte. Credo che questa sia verità assoluta.
Extraordinary...and deeply moving. Bye Adrian...
grande gruppo anni ottanta tratto da uno dei più bei album di quel periodo r dedicata al compianto Ian Curtis... favolosa canzone
This was absolutely my favorite band when i was in my teens en twenties,im so lucky i saw them perform in a very small venue 10 km from were i used to live.
Im realising only now HOW lucky :)))
Maestro de maestros
OUTSTANDINGLY BRILLIANT*
INTENSE TO SAY THE VERY LEAST*
Beautiful Song! And this rendition of it, is particularly good. Just listen to those tones, the choice of notes - pure brilliance! Seriously who can express in such excellence, and purity of intent as Mr Borland? But really WTF is the song really about - ...."finger on my lips" - really, Adrian? Go, in the Opposite direction, is perhaps what he later alludes to!?!? :-)
That's a shame that Adrian dedicates this music to Ian Curtis and ends up like Ian.
Yes. Both tormented, immensely gifted and passionate souls that rawly delivered love and the widest range of humanity.
Que músico Adrián
Thanks for this.
quando li vidi a taranto anni 80 fantastici,ke tempi bellissimi
suonarono a taranto ?
Spectacular.
my best sound ever since i was 18 year old!!! now i'm too old! Still i think are the yes band!!!!
Pisses me off at how Truly Great they were and all the shite these days like the kings of leon get all the praise, wealth and attention
Fantastic..
Just like with Simple Minds and Echo and the Bunnymen... I am a fool for having judged them by one or two songs and ashamed that I didn't see the brilliance sooner.
Both Simple Minds and Echo & The Bunnymen got massive. These lads never did. John Hughes should have met them.
2k19
I AM SPEECHLESS. MY HEART JUST COMPLETELY MELTED. R.I.P. TO THE GREATEST ADRIAN BORLAND AND IAN CURTIS.
Trueno en el aire
Antes de una tormenta que rasga
Ira en mi corazón
Un dedo en mis labios
Me mostraste ese silencio
Eso atormenta a este mundo problemático
Me mostraste ese silencio
Puede hablar más fuerte que las palabras
Las palabras terminan en desastre
En las rocas, en pedazos
Sé que algo vive ahí
Pero no puedo decir que es
This is not Madrid University, this is the Studio 1 of TVE, in the program La Edad de Oro. Unfortunately this song was recorded but not included in the final broadcast. Usually the program was aired live but this time was pre recorded and they edited leaving 2 songs out, this one and Sense of Purpose, I think.
Amazing band. One of the best ever.
@pyenapple
My God!!! I l-i-v-e-d in the 80's and I never heard of this group. Better 25+ years late than never, I guess. Hmmm. They sound like early CSA (pre Land) with delightful hooks. They difinately are dark and Janglepop-ish. Call me stupid...I have a legal brief due tomorrow and all I am doing is downloading as many SOUND songs as I can. I am TOO OLD to be pulling all nighters but---its as if I stepped out of a musical desert and someone handed me a bottle of FIJI water!!!
great video. great song! thanks
I rate this video with 2 stars by mistake... it deserves 5 stars!
Seeing this, I miss them
Joder!
The album is called 'From the lions mouth '
I downloaded it from somewhere a while ago
unfortunately i've forgotten from where
but its out there somewhere, good luck
its a brilliant album!
Guitar Ashole of my life ❤
@FleshHungryFiend Nearly all of their stuff is. I recommend you get "Jeopardy" and "From The Lions Mouth" right away. You'll freak out when you hear "I Can't Escape Myself". It's wound so tight you'll think reality itself might shatter if it's dropped.
@Palominoid I guess because it always got Adrian down that they never broke that barrier. Granted, he was down anyway...but from what I've read, he had a hard time reconciling all the energy and passion the group put into the music with the relatively small splash The Sound's existence made in culture. Whereas, of course, certain other groups made it big without having to pay their dues...or really having genuine music. It's easy for US to look back now and be more OK with it than he was.
amazing song!!!!
Great special man
Arian Borland will never be out of focus again!
The Sound... The name ain't for fake.
such an interesting band too. great songs
Superb!
If you cannot resist, buy the album. It's an excellent one. Go to RED SUN RECORDS.
RIP Adrian Borland. He died on 26 April 1999. Two days before I got home from Seville.
Love to Carlo, Mark, all at Red Sun, and Adolfo Temprano, whom I've never seen again
10/10
MENTE ATORMENTADA, PERO ESTUPENDAMENTE BRILLANTE, QPD
And then we were talking about suicide and facing up to death and the girl in the green shirt put another record on the jukebox. And then Adrian was talking about Ian Curtis and a song he'd written about him for the new Sound album. It was called "Silent Air' and Adrian thought it was a kind of farewell; not a morbid tribute, not an attempt to polish Joy Divisions shining myth: just a kind of farewell. Typical of much of the new Sound LP, "Silent Air" is dignified, stately, carefully poised; it also burns with a secret optimism: staring into the darkness, the Sound refuse to be blinded by the night. Borland might be able to acknowledge the depression at provoked Curtis' suicide, he can respect his memory; but he refuses to see death as the only answer to life's terrors.
🖤
R.I.P Adrian Borland. You are silent in the air now.
WE ARE A NEW BAND, A TRIBUTE TO THE SOUND & ADRIAN BORLAND
THE VOLVOTS "BROKEN HIGHWAY" ON YOU TUBE !
SUPPORT !
i wish i could turn back the clock to the time i was buying their records and was spinning them on my 'Teak' turntable.
beautifull
great band great songs...RIP AKB
Ma quando attacchi l'assolo...grazie Adrian...x sempre...
This is emotional rescue...
A masterpiece. Great song, great band! Check out my covers of the Sound if you want to :)
Did you pick up any of the Renascent reissues on CD? It's worth it because some of it was never on vinyl: "Propaganda" was an unreleased album from before "Jeopardy", and there are several live CDs, and the BBC Sessions 2-CD thing. It's very worth it if you're a big fan! :)
Otra, otra!
Sure groupe des années 80 j adore nath
Cool
I ♥ them
There are day that I really mais Adrian.... 😥
