I think I’ll remain skeptical until there’s a tangible steps being put out there. I don’t think it won’t affect the US socioeconomic. Most international students who study here are known for very overly qualified compared to US residents. It’ll definitely cause some new wave of problems for more skilled Americans. Means they will compete with freshly graduated Americans from universities and/or graduate schools
Most country have merit based immigration. Nothing wrong with taking the people for the jobs we need filled. We need a lot of young healthy farm workers. Most country will require you to pass a heath check, Make sure you know the language, and make sure you won't be a burden on society.
I remember working on a harbor project in Long Beach and an engineer came out to the rig and he said how he had to leave the United States because he was a Japanese citizen a 25 year old. He was employed by the City of Long Beach. But immigration was sending him back to Japan. It did not make any sense to me.
Eastern countries should change Immigration laws, 1. Allow people who are skilled and issue them work permits for some years. They earn money and live with a good mark on there resume. Now when they go back to there country they can develop there country. 2. Don't allow the dependents to work(Wife). 3. Don't give citizenship status to children who are born when their parents on work permit visa or any visa. 4. Don't give permanent citizenship to foreign nationals, only allow them to study on student visa, work on visa . 5. Give only 1 Student Visa term for their education and don't give extension for that, and only 1 term for work visa ;and no extension. Foreigners should leave the country after all theirs visa expire, there should be no extensions. 6. This will create a cycle which allow new foreigners(students/workers) each year. Foreigners who leave after the end of visa should go back and help in the development of their countries.
Have one problem with this... What about something like NASA... Other countries who don't have as good space agencies, a highly skilled astrophysics graduate, who beats out everyone else on purely merit, should be accepted into NASA. Because the fact of the matter is NASA's funding is way better than most others, and it's technologically advanced as well. And if you just wanna block the best talent needed then it is a setback to humanity as a whole...when the best talent on this planet gets a chance to work at the best place, then you'll get scientific revolutions which will primarily help US and also the world to an extent... I was educated at two top american universities and I have the PhD in Computer Science. And now, I have the green card and work in a top US company. I sent a petition for my wife and kids 16 months ago so that they can join me. My wife and kids were here with me during studies (they had F2 visa), but had to go back home for an emergency. And now they can not come back before they get the green card. Does this mean my family can not join me?

Hate to tell you but this is how Immigration was originally established, but no longer enforced from the 70's on. Back in the early 20th century when you came over to live here you had to #1 be free of disease that was transmittable. #2 had to have a trade or talent to sustain yourself and #3 you had to have a place to live established such as a destination with a relative or job that had been accepted for income. Get a clue. This IS how it should be. Encouraging preference by ability to speak OUR language (yeah it's English) isn't a bad thing let alone already having a good education. WE are NOT paying for it......no more free rides, no automatic entry if your relatives snuck in. It's time to get back to what established us in the beginning. Not this absurd open border craziness these idiot democrats want. NO More free rides.........
