What a missed opportunity for the VMFA to not have the speaker at least touch on how the Faberge collection came to the museum in Richmond. Disappointing.
The Queen of Sweden (Silvia) have Faberge ?? have never seen any photos..the Faberge in the Thai royal collection are usually Buddhas that are not on public display.
He unwisely chose to lecture without the benefit of written notes, and made some slight mistakes. I think he meant to say the King of Sweden or the Swedish royal family and not , queen of Sweden(Silvia). That royal family probably received pre-revolution, Faberge items from the czar, or from family members, or subjects such as the Swedish / Russian Nobel family who were very significant Faberge customers, or from direct purchases.
That's hilarious considering the fact that your museums are chock full of historical pieces you marched in and STOLE from other nations. Americans simply prefer to buy what they collect, rather than steal it.
Thankyou so much for uploading! Trawled through so many 2-3min clips of this n that relating to the wonderful works of Faberge..and then i stumbled on this scholarly hour long presentation!
The dowager empress did not walk ahead of Nicholas. As a dowager empress ranked higher than the reigning empress consort, she would enter on the arm of the emperor.
Knowledgeable lecturer, but there were too many careless mistakes due to the speaker not using notes. Nobody has perfect memory, and even the greatest lecturers should use written notes. Some errors have been mentioned. Here are more: 56:31 That’s not Empress Alexandra’s sister. That’s Queen Alexandra of the UK, sister of Empress Maria Feod. 52:26 “Faberge was not part of the exhibition” is incorrect. He should have said that Faberge items were exhibited but were not a part of the competition. 1:01:15 error. When Edward died in 1910, it was his wife queen Alexandra, and not his daughter in law queen Mary who returned the cigarette case to Mrs. Keppel, the king’s mistress. 10:01:39 error: Mrs Keppel did not bequeath it on her death, but presented it to Queen Mary in 1936 which was 21 years before Alice Keppel died in 1947.
Nice to hear Dr von Habsburg, although I knew most of the content beforehand.
This man has a lot of humor, not like you can say about other Germans.😅
Great lecture and thanks for posting. 🙂
Made quite a few mistakes in his speech. Revolution of 1916, Swedish bank, coronation in St Petersburg ?!!!

i never quite understood why Americans were collecting European art and not their own....I guess because they do not have any

@@kosmos1957 How do you know what's in our museums? Have you ever travell in every European country I think you are not!
may be they want to buy some history as their own history is not that much fascinating,,after all they were merely slave of Britain
what a ridiculous comment.
Fah-bear-zhay... not Fah-bruh-zhay
what a ridiculous statement aabb katas!

So very beautiful ! The artistry it took to creat those eggs, and the time !! Such a wonderful video. Learned a lot too.

Indeed. Probably he meant to say that she walked ahead of the Empress.( which is true)
david busic right, and Alexis would follow
Thank you, Dr. Géza von Habsburg for your wonderful video on Fabergé beautiful objects.
Completely fascinating. Thank you for the upload.
Should’ve mentioned Alma pihl, re, mosaic egg, but ok
A fantastic performance by His Imperial and Royal Highness Archduke Geza!
This photo, the posing, the period, reminds me of 1 I have seen of Frank Lloyd Wright. Interesting
Have any more of the lost eggs been found or could be recreated? Mike SW Florida?
Totally enthralling story teller, what I would not give to hear another lecture by Dr. Geza on the Romanovs themselves!
Wow, this is so so so good. Very interested in Faberge and Russian history
thank you, great lecture
Starts talking about Putin: Your time is up.
nothing to do with the topic

Has the director of the museum not been told that von and van are two different things how ignorant
The tiara around 23:35 isn't the one which was owned by Empress Josephine ??
Fantastic upload. Much appreciated!
32:40 Hoxha's Family Collection?
Fantastic, thank you
