Spot on Review. I just got the Chu‘s. I‘ve been using AirPods Pro for 3 years now and I was never satisfied with the sound quality. The moment I put in the Chus and browsed through some songs, I was shocked. Incredible to what crappy sound I got used to. It sounds so much more well defined and rounded, nicer treble, deeper, clearer bass and the separation is night and day. Soundstage is the most shocking to me. In comparison, it’s non existent on the AirPods Pros. Selling the AirPods because now I simply can’t go back. I gladly sacrifice convenience for better sound quality.

You should try the 7hz salnotes zero. Much better than the Chu for me. They graph almost the same but with a few key differences. A bit less shouty high-midrange, less harsh treble and slightly elevated sub-bass. To me it fixed every weakness of the Chu while keeping all of the things that made the Chu amazing, thus is the undisputed king of the 20$. Also it has a detachable cable.

My issue with the Chus is that when I got mine, right out of the box, it had this annoying super thin ringing. Sometimes it disappears but the fact that it happens is a bit, meh. Maybe it only happens with the mic version coz when I use a DAC dongle that doesn't have mic support, the tinnitus-like ringing does not appear at all. Another issue is that the texture of the cable is kinda weird. I say weird coz it's the first cable I got with an IEM that, for some reason, keeps snagging onto things like some sticky tape. The Quarks's cable is better IMO. Another one is the Spring tips. I was happy with them at first, but overtime I find them lacking. They used to be sticky and a very good partner with the Chus. But the fact that it keeps falling off after getting a bit sweaty, is a bit of a turn off. And last but not the least, the one weakness almost every budget Moondrop IEM has, it is very prone to getting moisture in its buds and ends up getting muted. Living in a tropical country, I already had to switch the filters twice now. Quite annoying and I have to spend more to always fix them. I really want to love the Chus, and if I had to gift other people with good budget IEMs, this would be my #1 choice. But because of every cons I just mentioned, I am hesitant to recommend it. And if I did, I always have to put a big disclaimer to them. Maybe it would work better for people living in temperate countries. But getting a budget Moondrop IEMs while living in a very humid country, that's an expensive investment overtime. I would rather get the Kato if I want to forget about the filter problems 😅. The Chus sounds good tho. Certainly better than the Quarks.

I'm Indian and ordered this IEM Moondrop Chu its my first IEM @1800Rs yet to be delivered. I don't know without bass I'll like it or not. I'm not heavy bass lover but the bass should kick in where it should be appreciated. So far I've tried Senheiser CX275S (best earphone I've ever heard in my life) but they stopped working after 2 year. Currently I'm using Oppo enco M31 hi res wireless earphone. Let see what Chu is capable of.
@@ajsalvlkI tested it. Chu have clear treble and Good bass. Oppo Enco M31 sounds blurred compare to Chu. CX 275S is still better than Chu. I get headache after listening to Chu for minutes. No problem with Oppo used for an hour.
As an Indian as well, the best budget earphones available (excluding the Chi-fis) would be any Beyerdynamic offering. I don't like the budget offerings by Skullcandy, JBL, audio technica, Sennheiser, soundmagic, Sony anymore. And I've tried quite a few of them. Most of them are either aggressively V shaped or bass heavy. I don't know what is it with companies marketing a whole lot of bass to Indians. It's just the quantity of bass, not the quality of it. It's just a muddy mess.
The moo drop chu no doubt is a great sounding iem. I’m actually having issues trying to access the equalizer settings you talked about in the BTR5 dac when connected via USB. Do you mind explaining to me how I can do that. Thanks Kenneth
I'm going to go out on a limb and assume it's the same method my btr3k. If it is, then it will still use a bluetooth or bluetooth LE connection to your phone or tablet with the Fiio Control app

Appreciate that Zac! Though if we’re talking about Soundpeats H1 then we need to find something bassy, and although the Aria has slightly more bass than usual Moondrop, it’s still more focused on the presentation of vocals. I haven’t tried a lot of other IEMs to give you a solid recommendation, but maybe you can try Blon BL03 that doesn’t cost much, or BGVP DN3 also comes to mind (this is still balanced but punchy on the low end)

Chu have a good soundstage and separation but the 3d illution soundstage actually just ok. If you have aria, yes you can buy this for enjoy music if you font concern about technicality and timbre, the sound signature was a bit simmiliar
You can check the chapters and I've actually compared the Chu to the similarly priced IEMs first I admit I haven't tried out much at this price point and that's something that I'm aiming to improve in the future 😁
Hi I know this is probably comparing orange and apple, I am new to this , I recently bought a FiiO KA1 to go with CX300S , should i still get a Moondrop Chu ? never had an IEM before :(
Different sound signature, don't compare 2 iems what have a different SoundSig at simmiliar price, becaused it will be a sidegrade as i know . Maybe thoughest opponent for chu was Tripowin Lea who have a simmiliar Soundsig but different timbre and technicality
@@namedkenn then it could become the best contender on the budget market right now! The combination of good tuning with better bass and superior technicality would be a killer. I think you should make a video on EQing this little guy.
Another great well prepared video.. very nice comparison.. some IEMs.. thank you.. oh.. the Soundpeats H1s just got an firmware update!! Sounds pretty good again.. 👍
Just for a fun perspective on the Chu, compare the price you paid for it with the price of the Spring Tips as is. You're basically paying more for the tips than the earphones themselves 🤯
i'm interested in buying chu, but my phone dont have 3.5mm jack can i just use random 3.5mm to type c converter? will it affects the audio quality from the chu?
Dear Kenneth. I'm a proud owner of a set of Liberty 3 Pro, them tunned completely different to the stock EQ, bringing bass and treble regions down and boosting mids. It sounds great but I still have the impression that wireless buds lack resolution. That's why I'd like going into the audiophile world with some super entry level IEMs. I'm now between the Moondrop Chu and the Tripowin Mele? Which do you recommend me? Thanks for your great work!!
Just for fun, for your future videos, people in Indonesia loves to recable old (famously good) earphone. Im just interested in how they compared with modern TWS or IEM.

Maybe yes, but you wouldn't get a simmiliar sound character at this moondrop Chu becaused Chu are harman curve, zsn was very v shape If i become you, i'll take blon BL01 becaused it was v shape too but with a better resolution/Technical, smooth vocal texture and less metalic harsh peak at Treble Area. (Zsn was rough at that 2 frequency point) BL01 price : 15-18$
@@carloscaponpon8816 when zsn series just released, yes maybe it was the best budget iems. But if talkinf about now, cca cra, blon. BL01, TRN MT1 pro, kz edx pro was much better than zsn series. Start from tonal , timbre, and technical zsn series was defeated by them now
@@nathankirt376 Wait, EDX Pro and MT1 Pro is an upgrade from ZSN? I was gonna bought one of them because the price is about $6-7 in my country, but i wasn't sure it was an upgrade.
@@10achio i didn't said they're upgrade from zsn series, but they have a better tuning V shape character of iems (less peaky at 5-6khz like zsn / zsn pro), not too far about technical level but they was better separation, smooth vocal and treble texture, and more Coherent
Although they are in different categories, anyone could advise me whether to get this or a pair of soundpeats free 2 classic for daily listening? Much appreciated guys :)
Truthear hexa, although imo it’s not worth the upgrade, better get to $200 to get a noticeable improvement. I suggest tangzu zetian wu heydey, for 220 aful performer 5
If you want to buy this to plug into gaming stuff, consider this: I use my KZ ZSX to play VR games. Even in "Into The Radius" it sounds absurdly "OPEN/3D/REALISTIC". I mean... I paid 32~35 usd for it (china to brazil)... IT'S SO CHEAP. Ok, you COULD get almost 2 of this moondrop, but, COME ON XD
If you just need a wide soundstage, DQSM hermit was better than any budget iems under 30$ But uf you still want Chu, just go on and take it becaused Chu have a good soundstage too actually 👍
@@markevinlagsac3252 Actually Chu Was not totally neutral, it has a more treble boost and sub bass presence than DF / Crinacle Netral FR Target, Moondrop quarks or Fostex te02n tuning was more approach to neutral target at same price
Cca c10 has a v shape character of sound, Chu or aria wasn't an upgrade from c10 becaused different Sound character. Maybe you can buy Tin T2plus for upgrade from c10 (Semi v shape sound, Very good technicalities, and versital for many type of music, 49$)
@@namedkenn In my honestly opinion, Chu have a less mid bass for mobile gaming (fps, battleground) i didn't get a powerful and rumbling bass when playing pubg mobile a with this iem, yes the soundstage and separation was good eough but i feel Chu didn't have 3d illution soundstage for pubg, i should re tuning Chu with eq boost at 100hz 5-10db to get that
I’ve reviewed one in the past, it’s a good value but to say it sounds better than the big brands might not be the case, but hey I haven’t tried much of their products so take this with a grain of salt haha

Besides that, great review as always from u Kenneth, Mantapp!
Umm sorry for asking, was you really compare DQ6 with the Competitor at same - more expensive price point? Becaused there is no many i see giving "Best in class" To dq6 until now becaused the metalic texture at treble area. Maybe you should compare dq6 with BL01, i think BL01 have a more resolution and smooth treble but at same time, not blur the detail and separation

How about the timbre and Technical? Becaused I think tws didn't have a equivalent level than iem at same / simmiliar price point.
@@nathankirt376 i did say it can get pretty close, i didn't say it's the same level
I was mostly talking about Frequency response, if you check in woodenears, the mids are pretty decent and can be improved further with EQ from the QCY app
You said: with more on it, it comes close. The good thing about the chus is that it's tuning is great out of the box
@@ArielGonzalez1 if you know how to use tone generator and EQ you can get anything sound good
can you share your eq setting?
Moondroops Chu is just immaculate. It sounds way cleaner than the Sennheiser MTW2, which is more than 10 times the price of Chu.👌
Haha I know right, honestly I’m pretty mindblown myself finding these sub $20 IEMs to sound better than anything wireless
I am never going back to true wireless again, feel like I have been cheated now.🤣
haylou w1 and moondrop Chu which one have better soundstage.
Up
I put my KZ tips on the chu... help me perceived the bass is improved.
Awesome! Cause the spring tips are tuned for treble extension in the first place right, if I remember correctly
Kenneth, please review the 1More Pistonbuds Pro and compare it the Comfobuds Pro or the regular Pistonbuds 🙏🏼
HI, thanks for the review, almost all reviews are very detailed it is very hard to decide which one the to buy. I am new to the IEMs, could you please let me know your best pic under 50 UK pounds which would all rounder, i.e. which perform in almost all aspect. I do not mind spend a bit more, just don't like to buy many.
thanks for your help
It include he volume control, and good quality button click compared to other same price range. I have cra too. Both sound solid cant really differ but moondrop accesories reall on amother level. It even netter tham spinfit. As comfortable as final tips
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing this valuable info, and I agree on you on the Spring Tips 😆
How's it?
What's your recommendation under 2k for good music and call quality?
They sound great but my left side went quiet after a week. I got a replacement and that one also went during my second day of use...
@@VintagedMillennial so the equalizer settings with Bluetooth connection also works when connected via usb?
Ah yes the moo drop chu
Really nice video
Really appreciate that, thank you!

Hey Kenneth your my favorite reviewer as of now, What iem similar to h1 sound signature
Im planning to Aria moondrop
Appreciate that Zac! Though if we’re talking about Soundpeats H1 then we need to find something bassy, and although the Aria has slightly more bass than usual Moondrop, it’s still more focused on the presentation of vocals.
I haven’t tried a lot of other IEMs to give you a solid recommendation, but maybe you can try Blon BL03 that doesn’t cost much, or BGVP DN3 also comes to mind (this is still balanced but punchy on the low end)
@@namedkenn you're from tws, and you're new to iems, I read comment that seems negative but don't mind them, I believe in you, remember moms caring soundpeats H1 you're the only one can notice, thanks sire God bless
Ayy yo, Finally
Still thinking to buy it since it's not detachable
Yeah! Took quite a lot of my time in the making 🤣 anyway just go get it man you'll forget that it's not detachable real quick haha
@@namedkenn well actually there someone can custom the Chu to be detachable well uh the cost itself is abou Rp.120K dunno if it's worthy or not
Actually i'm only afraid the i'll broke the cable
But yeah i'll go YOLO just what i did when i buy Nekocake SE
@@nathankirt376 i just check it, but doubt it will fit fine on my ears, the nozzle like SSP & SSR i think
It feels too big also hurt on my ears after i'm using it less than 30 minutes so
@@rizki4883 oh i see, was you used it with Small size eartips?
@@nathankirt376 yeah, it still feel hurt if i'm using it for more than 30 minutes
How is its imaging and technicalities? Is it good for FPS?
Would you recommend this for someone who already has the Aria? Kinda want to try those eartips
(Buys eartips with free IEM)
Chu have a good soundstage and separation but the 3d illution soundstage actually just ok. If you have aria, yes you can buy this for enjoy music if you font concern about technicality and timbre, the sound signature was a bit simmiliar
I used mine with cp145 spinfits and cx pro dac. I wear them as regular earbuds tho
Well, i hope you compare this iem with the opponents iem at same Price level, just wanna know Good was Chu in your oppinion compared by the others 👌
You can check the chapters and I've actually compared the Chu to the similarly priced IEMs first
I admit I haven't tried out much at this price point and that's something that I'm aiming to improve in the future 😁
@@namedkenn all Right on the way watch it all, 🏎🏎🏎🏎
what bluetooth earbuds would you rec for a mid range price that have a good bass and pretty decent mic quality
great pair using it for a few weeks but the left side is noticably lower volume than the right any way to fix this?
do EQ apps update an onboard chip in the iem or will it just work for the specific device that has the app?
Hi I know this is probably comparing orange and apple, I am new to this , I recently bought a FiiO KA1 to go with CX300S , should i still get a Moondrop Chu ? never had an IEM before :(
Please review a Bluetooth IEM adapter. I have the KZ AZ09 Pro and I don't know how much quality is lost when I use it with an adapter.
Yes. I haven't found a good video comparing use of Bluetooth modules vs when used wired. Not with proper testing anyway.
KBEAR KS2 is also a strong competitor for the same price, would be interesting to see quick comparison with the Chu. Maybe even in Shorts format?
Different sound signature, don't compare 2 iems what have a different SoundSig at simmiliar price, becaused it will be a sidegrade as i know . Maybe thoughest opponent for chu was Tripowin Lea who have a simmiliar Soundsig but different timbre and technicality
Hey will you please review soundmagic e80c
do you also review baseus? i just curios if their bowie wm02 is any good. thanks
selamat pagi sir. which one is better 7hz salnotes zero vs this moondrop iem?
What about Samsung Galaxy buds pro or AKG n400, can u review it ?
please review tanjim ola
I’ll see what I can do with those! But they definitely took my interest 👀
Could you use EQ on this IEM to compensate for its weak bass?
Absolutely! For me I tweak it in my BTR5 but you could use apps like Wavelet or Poweramp I reckon
i wonder should i get a nekocake,chu or ssp?
Just for a fun perspective on the Chu, compare the price you paid for it with the price of the Spring Tips as is.
You're basically paying more for the tips than the earphones themselves 🤯

What are your thoughts about moondrop Chu 2?
Is it worth it to upgrade from KZ ZSN pro?
Ken , Can you compare the Aria SE with CHU, my guess is the Aria SE is a more bassier CHU
Aria was better overall
i'm interested in buying chu, but my phone dont have 3.5mm jack can i just use random 3.5mm to type c converter? will it affects the audio quality from the chu?
Yes you can, it wont affect audio
Listening to MJs Man in the Mirror 👍
Anyway, imma buy the Chu lol
Nice review Kenneth.
Conclusion, nobody beats Sony.
Haha well to be honest I consider this 'beating' the Sony already since the price is so different, but hey looks like the wired IEM space is incredibly exciting to explore into so I can't wait to see what's next!
@@namedkenn yeah, I was just kidding.
I bought 7hz zero the other day, supposed to be a good contender against MD Chu. Should get to me in 3 days or so. You're right, IEM market is really exciting and fun to explore.
Ahaha sorry for being so stiff! 🤣 anyway I was browsing around and caught on the Salnotes Zero as well, the price definitely got me interested, hopefully I can try one soon
Any chance for reviewing Khastadio ESD-01 (wired iem)? It,s about $300 and lot of people praise it for a great iem, so i'm curious bout that one.
*$30, i don't think khastaudio will sell esd-01 300$ becaused in Indonesian Rp it was just 500k (1$= 14.000 Rp) :v
Is the Chu decent enough for vocal clarity? Or is there a better alternative for the price? I'm looking for a budget vocal monitor
No
Not sure why the answer is no here but I would absolutely recommend the Chu for vocal clarity 😁
Yes for clarity, but for natural timbre and smooth texture, Tanchjim Tanya/Tripowin Lea was better
@@namedkenn oops meant no for no alternative.
0:22 did you just say "salamat palagi"? I'm Filipino and I really do appreciate that. (Ps it's kinda funny how you said that)
Haha it's actually "Selamat Pagi" which in Indonesian means good morning 😁
But hey I'm curious now what does salamat palagi means?
@@namedkenn when translated to English it is "thank you always!" 🤣 Sorry It sounds the same
Should i upgrade it from KZ ZSN?
yes 4 sure... kz zsn is one of the best iem outhere
Maybe yes, but you wouldn't get a simmiliar sound character at this moondrop Chu becaused Chu are harman curve, zsn was very v shape
If i become you, i'll take blon BL01 becaused it was v shape too but with a better resolution/Technical, smooth vocal texture and less metalic harsh peak at Treble Area. (Zsn was rough at that 2 frequency point)
BL01 price : 15-18$
I really hate that rubber earhook too 😤
Haha well but functionally it is nice 😁
Although they are in different categories, anyone could advise me whether to get this or a pair of soundpeats free 2 classic for daily listening? Much appreciated guys :)
what is the next step if now owning a Moondrop Chu? (next budget step maybe around 50$ 100$)
Truthear hexa, although imo it’s not worth the upgrade, better get to $200 to get a noticeable improvement.
I suggest tangzu zetian wu heydey, for 220 aful performer 5
the mic version does have volume control!
That’s great to hear!
If you want to buy this to plug into gaming stuff, consider this:
I use my KZ ZSX to play VR games.
Even in "Into The Radius" it sounds absurdly "OPEN/3D/REALISTIC".
I mean... I paid 32~35 usd for it (china to brazil)... IT'S SO CHEAP. Ok, you COULD get almost 2 of this moondrop, but, COME ON XD
need some opinion, i already have soundpeats h1 and blon 03 and really love wide sound stage. should i get this moondrop chu?
If you just need a wide soundstage, DQSM hermit was better than any budget iems under 30$
But uf you still want Chu, just go on and take it becaused Chu have a good soundstage too actually 👍
@@nathankirt376 thanks for the recommendation dude! really appreciate it
Yes because you must have a well tuned neutral iem in your collection
@@markevinlagsac3252 Actually Chu Was not totally neutral, it has a more treble boost and sub bass presence than DF / Crinacle Netral FR Target, Moondrop quarks or Fostex te02n tuning was more approach to neutral target at same price
@@nathankirt376 bro i need larger wide soundstage can you recommend something around under 70$
Currently, I'm using CCA C10, would this be an upgrade or sidegrade? previously I was considering getting the Aria, but now I'm confused 🤔
I have not worn a earphone which is over the ear before. Can this earphone be worn in normal method, not over the ears?

Ever consider to review EGGEL Products? indonesian brand. Many said, the sound quality match even surpass big brands like JBL, sony, etc
I’ve reviewed one in the past, it’s a good value but to say it sounds better than the big brands might not be the case, but hey I haven’t tried much of their products so take this with a grain of salt haha
Since you're already on this iem train, i would love for u to compare this with the so call "best in class" the KZ DQ6, which a lot say have the best sound quality in the price range, or even beating the more expensive counterpart, and maybe other iem in the similar price range if u can.
Maybe you should compare dq6 with BL01, i think BL01 have a more resolution and smooth treble but at same time, not blur the detail and separation
dq6 is a super bassy iem. its different.
@@nathankirt376 gotta try the BL01 then
@@baregum just bcs it's super bassy, doesn't mean it's crap, and if it's more bassy and could deliver a comparable mids or highs, then it's objectively better
I wouldn't characterize the DQ6 as super bassy or metallic. It's almost like we all hear differently.
