    Great trip and tribute to Honda and 125 cc engines. Thanks much. I have a 1984 Honda Elite CH125 which runs like new. At 74, I ride it daily and always get 90 to 100 mpg. Wish I could afford PCX 125. Great video. Jerry-Central Florida

    Used the standard tyres, rear was getting bald so figured i would replace it on the way. Took me a about 1000 miles to actually find someone that sold a tyre to fit and when i changed it the fabric was showing! Very difficult to find a replacement so change before you go and take a good repair kit! Other than that its a good tourer, make sure you do Switzerland as its amazing!!

    Great trip with the little PCX. I have a PCX150 and it's far more than just a scooter for the city. Travelling about 80-100Km/h for longer time (with a higher Givi shield) is no problem you even have some reserve it goes about 120Km/h.It's a really great little machine!

      Why "the hard way". I think it's even more simple to go on a light bike: you're not in hurry, because you don't have the power to go very fast, therefore you can enjoy everything passing by. It's cheaper! It's more lightweight! Afterall I think it's more a journey than on a bigger bike.

    • @furstyferret81
      @furstyferret81  10 лет назад +4

      It was a little slow on the passes as i had her fully loaded but i still kept up with most traffic, best not to mess and tune with such a small engine because it performs just fine (mostly cursed about at like 55mph)! Having a rucksack on the back to lean on made it much more comfortable. The only problem i had was with the larger roads in France as they are only two lanes with some real bad drivers and its a boring trek to get the good stuff further south from the UK. I was doing a tank a day (maybe 140 miles) and could of happily done more but needed to get checked into a campsite before 6ish each night really. Crossing from France to Switzerland was like a new world, you live in one amazing, beautiful and friendly country! I will have another adventure that focuses on Switzerland soon, possibly starting with a ferry to Santander...but then Iceland and Norway are calling me.. . :)

      Its a good little bike and i still have mine but I will be upgrading to a Honda S-Wing 125 next year as its just a better bike.
      The PCX was fine doing very long runs and mountain climbs even when loaded up with gear. Its never let me down but the center stand had cracked, this is a common problem and can kill the bike as the stand attachment is part of the engine case. When it cracks it can cause an oil leak!

    And what was the least useful and a waste of space?

    • @furstyferret81
      @furstyferret81  10 лет назад +12

      The chain lock weighed about 2kg and i think i ditched it on like day 3. A good Europe satnav was essential for finding campsites and planning the next days ride. 12v plug attached to the battery to keep phone/satnav charged (the old pcx doesnt have one). Tall screen. Wish i took handlebar muffs, i removed them because i thought it would be so warm but i had plenty or snow and rain, wet gloves on a cold morning with 10 hours riding ahead is horrible.I think above all the rubber waterproof rainsuit i had saved me, i even slept in it a couple of nights, dont underestimate just how cold it can get even when the weather should be good. Do a small 300mile two day trial run and see what works before you go!

    • @Mikolaj_u
      @Mikolaj_u 10 лет назад

      Thanks for reply! Will take a small disc lock rather then chain lock. Got tomtom maps on my phone so will take that rather then separate device. Got a tall screen already installed. Muffs is definitely a good idea; I've been commuting this winter and blimey hands can get really cold even with chunky gloves on. So just ordered pair online.
      Good idea with the trial run! I'll organise a weekend trip to a campsite in Wales after New Year.
      By the way, was the jerrycan helpful? When I went to Alps in a car several years ago, I saw plenty petrol stations scattered around.

    Hey mate, I have one question. Im planning on getting a pcx or nmax myself because its the best I can find in my price range. I also want to use it for long distance traveling. So, did you ever felt that your 125cc engine was underpowered for the job? Should I save one year more and go for 300cc?

    • @furstyferret81
      @furstyferret81  5 лет назад +1

      I've got a 300 now and the only down side is higher running costs for like fuel and new belts, think 300/250 is the best combination of economy and power. PCX is a little small and light for motorways but perfect for round town, Hondas bigger 125s are good like the S-wing and Forza 125 (I think it's called that?) for longer journeys. I'd say get a 2nd hand Forza 300, 300 SYM Joymax or Kymco 300 if you are going to do lots of long journeys.

    How did you get on with the infamous seat hump? For me at about the 60 miles it starts to hurt a wee bit and gradually gets worse, at 100 mile I'm like bloomin OUCH!! :D
    Great bike though!

      @furstyferret81  9 лет назад

      With a huge rucksack as a backrest it was okay. when I got back I removed it and got the seat recovered!

      Hi Rey! The hump is held on by only two bolts. Pop the seat up and you'll see them. Just undo the nuts and the hump will easily come off. Only thing is that the seat dosnt look great but hey nobody sees that when on the bike. Also if it rains water will get through. For a couple of months I ran without the hump and liked the wee bit extra leg room but you can still feel the plate underneath. As I live in Scotland and it always rains I put a plastic bag over the seat which isnt great. I recently put the hump back on due tothe winter months and missed the extra couple of inches leg room. Take the hump off for a while and see how you get on bud. :)

    • @biodag
      @biodag 8 лет назад

      lol at your height I dont think you will ever want to put the hump back on :D I'd like the new PCX which has no hump but dont think I'll bother as I might go up to a bigger bike once I pass my big test in a few months. It would probably suit you better bud. Take care! :)

    How did you manage to avoid all the motorways ? i head some cities ban 125's from being on a motorway.

    • @furstyferret81
      @furstyferret81  9 лет назад +1

      fish and banana used a satnav foe where i wanted to go that day can in the settings checked the 'avoid motorways' button, small roads are more fun anyway!

    Which cities did you stop by? Could you post a rough list/plan?

    • @furstyferret81
      @furstyferret81  10 лет назад +1

      KT I actually had no plan as such just a satnav so each night i would zoom out on the the satnav and look for hills and mountains etc then just set it to avoid motorways. I generally headed for capitals and landmarks but sometimes i just loved getting lost, at about 6pm i would pull out the satnav to take me to the nearest campsite, wish they stayed open later so i could do more miles but they all seemed to close at like 6/7pm!

      A taller screen is well worth it in colder weather, i put the stock screen back on in the summer months to keep cool.

      Both colours look good but the red is deeper! I used City Grips for the trip, much better and seem to last longer too.

    • @furstyferret81
      @furstyferret81  6 лет назад

      Yeah it was fine, avoided riding at full speed and kept on the slow lane out of trouble. Avoided motorways where possible and found some of the best places doing that!
