P.S. All home cooks and aspiring chefs worth their salt are aiming for food that taste like what our moms made for us when we were little. So it’s extra cool watching an actual mom rock out in the kitchen for a change with the legit sound of kids in the background. Respect. 😊

So agree with you! Isn't she the best family-kitchen chef on the internet?! Love how the baby gets so much bonding and rocking as she works away in her home-schooled environment. No frills, No fuss! Just as she is doing, my mom taught me how to clean (never wash with soap) the skillets (we all inherited) and it has been my kitchen treasure! Respect indeed! 🤓🤩

I’ve watched A LOT of videos about cast iron- I’ve always been a little scared of not following rules, cleaning, etc etc. This is probably the best and most easy to follow video. I love this approach and it’s definitely not as intimidating as I had thought! Thank you!!

A Hot water soak and a scrub, is all you need! And its as clean as new in a few minutes! Ya just gotta keep it oiled, or you food will stick, and the pan will rust.

I had a glass stove top and I used my cast iron pans all the time. It scratched the heck out of it but I didn’t care. I love my cast iron pans. My friends and family were kinda freaked out about it, but I figure it’s my stove, it was paid for, my pans, my life. And they certainly enjoyed what whatever came out those pans. The thing that made the biggest difference with cleaning my cast iron was making sure the pan is still hot when I clean it, think like cooking bacon and pancakes on a griddle , moving the finished food to a platter. Then immediately cleaning the griddle, before you eat. Just quickly with a green scouring pad and water. Then immediately back to the stove , which is still hot enough to dry it properly, but no risk of leaving the stove on. Which I’ve done many a time before lol

Just want to say thank you LIsa, thank you for passing on your knowledge in such an easy to understand way. Tonight as I am taking my sourdough bagels...puffed up high and beautiful....my two loaves of beautifully designed sourdough bread...and I too have cast iron that I use way more after being inspired by you....I thought of you tonight in total gratitude. I am much older than you and have learned so much from you. I miss the small woman’s groups that use to gather to share fun and knowledge. I am thinking of having a few friends over to share what I have learned from you in sourdough bread making. I have had a small group over that I taught how to make kombucha...we are bonded by our kombucha brewing. Love you and appreciate all that you do.

The only thing I do differently is I use a chainmail scrubber. I find it to be a lot more durable and easy to work with (doesn't get food bits caught inside and very finish-friendly). Great information . . two things that might be considerations for some folks . .. cast iron pans are a lot heavier than stainless steel so that might be a factor for anyone with arthritis or for safety for children using them. Secondly, we eat a lot of fish and I've found that you must put soap on the pan to remove the fish smell and aroma. I only use plant based kitchen soaps and if used sparingly it should not damage the seasoning.

    Good morning beautiful ❤️
Whenever I get the notification of a new video from your channel, I always need to set the scene or stage ready for the video to take place or I always have these ideas in my head about what the scene should take place as if it were happening.
For example your videos remind me of chamomile, lavender, the color beige, fresh brewed coffee with no creamer, candle lights, a fresh clean breeze coming through the windows, sage, dim lighting, calmness, sunshine, peace, optimism, curiosity, family, friendship, non-judgment, hope, and patience. Now I may be wrong but this is how I perceive and how I feel every time I watch your videos and it puts me in the best mindset.
Also, I never feel anxious, worried, distraught, hurt, envious, resentful, or start wishing I had or was...
I'm totally happy just being me watching your content and that doesn't always happen on RUclips, because there are a lot of channels that show off a lifestyle and it makes you want those things, but when I watch your channel I don't feel that way I feel so much peace and calmness and gratitude and all I want to do is share that Joy I experience from your videos with others. I love the humility your vulnerability and your heart that shows through your channel.
Thank you for the beautiful content. I love that you love what you do, it's truly beautiful. 🌸💐🌼☀️💕

HI , I enjoy your seasoning videos. I watched a few others and one lady said that you should season new pans 4 or 5 time in a row, so it took her 2 days to season, and also she said that you should only use Flaxseed oil. That oil is more expensive and goes rancid before I use it again. I like Coconut oil, in fact I use it as a make-up remover, and also as a moisturizer . Just a few tiny dots around eyes, on forehead, cheeks, a little more on my neck. It doesn’t leave your skin sticky, or greasy, then apply make-up!!

Because of you, I now use cast iron all the time and it is so much better for cooking than any of by other pans. I clean it just like you do and it’s so easy and always at the ready.

I struggled with cast iron because of how heavy they are, but I do have one single skillet that I bust out when I know it’ll make whatever dish I’m making taste better. I found my sweet spot with blue carbon steel; the maintenance is similar and it still gives your food that “cooked over the campfire” taste, just lighter!

Seeing this reminds me of how nice it is to have iron cookware!.
It's a process, and they do require care. But so worth it.
I have about a dozen different skillets, and have come to appreciate how well they all work!.

I use my cast iron on my glass top stove too. It does scratch but I try to keep the top cleaned with the special cleaner at least once a month. I love using my cast iron!

I have a glass top stove and only cook with cast-iron or stainless steel. No problems at all. My cast iron is seasoned and I am the only one who cleans them after we use them. People insist on washing them with soapy water. This video is a great education tool for all cast iron users.

I keep a "handiwipe towel" covered in coconut oil, in a sandwich baggie in fridge. I do the same thing for lemon oil furniture polish. The handi wipes are usually in a package of three at almost any store and they last forever and ever and you can even hand wash them to reuse them. It's a good way of keeping oils and grease off of your other towels since you would have to eventually wash the other towels in a load of laundry. Love your Channel! God bless you and your family.

You treat your cast iron like my mom did on our farm. She ONLY washed her skillets when they really needed it. Bacon grease was her oil of choice. Everything, even my dad's over-easy breakfast eggs slicked right off the skillet. Amazing pans!

Thank you! I have been using CI for years, but you are way more relaxed about use and care than I was and I like that! Going to take a page out of your book. Just bought my daughter a CI skillet for her apartment and forwarded this to her. Will be very helpful for sure.

So helpful to watch. I have a glass top stove and wondered about the cast iron on it. I have four different size Griswold (sp?) skillets that have not been used since we switched to a glass top stove. We raised five that are all grown and wish like crazy that I would have had someone like you to inspire me to cook. The kids did not starve, but I was woefully inadequate in the cooking department. My mother was not a cook, and her mother was not a cook. Learned a lot from my husband and his family. They were all good at it. His mom taught my girls, so they were better prepared. Love your channel. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. One more thing. Have not tried the sourdough. Very appealing process. I am GF, so need to look at that closer. Random comment. Sorry. 😁

Hello, I have a glass top stove and we've been using cast iron for quite a few years now. It does not cause any problems. You just have to be careful because the pans are very heavy but for the most part we just store them on the stove and put them on the burner that is needed for cooking and have never had an issue.

Great video- we love our cast iron but this gives me some new ideas about how to keep it clean with less effort! One question-- How do you clean the oily towels?? I worry about oil spots on clothes since we don't sort much for laundry.
    Thanks for all you do!

I’ve only had glass top stoves and have used cast iron for the last 10+ years! You just have to scrub the stove a little more and made sure you wipe off the bottom of the pans before cooking if you stack them!! I do slide my pans, no scratches that seem more than typical use! I think the biggest thing would be to watch out when you set down a pan or move a fully loaded skillet so you don’t drop it!

I can’t keep my skillet out due to my liking to sit in it! But I am making the point this spring to use it daily and really learn it! Just bought a round griddle to add to my skillet.

I have been using my cast iron skillets and Dutch oven for years on my glass cook top with no issues. I only use stainless steel when I need to boil water for something, like spaghetti; I wish I could find a cast iron pot to use instead:) I really enjoy your channel and look forward to more videos.

Lisa thank you for understanding that some of us are intimidated by cast iron and this video was so helpful and encouraging. I don’t have a lot of storage room so I keep my cast iron pans in the oven but I think I’ll put them out on the stove like you so that I use them more often because that old saying out of sight out of mind is true.

So, I have a glass stove top and cook with cast iron. The stove is 3 years old. I’m careful but sometimes it gets dull and doesn’t look as nice. I use oven cleaner to clean the stove top surface and it brings back the shine. Just a tip!
