Thanks for all you do, Rocky!!
Zeus is such a smart boy!!

Owned is perfect
@pegl6576 I owned a Border Collie as well, Samantha, as she was so smart/loyal to the core, and highly trained. They make the best pets! 👌
😂 Me too. I’ve got two controlling me 😊❤
In April of 2011, my mom spotted a dog running across a busy road on her way home. Without even thinking, she did a u-turn, pulled up to where the dog was, and opened her passenger door to him. He gingerly stepped into her car, out of the pouring rain, and fell asleep for the rest of the car ride home. He was a border collie, the vet estimated that he was only about 7-8 months old. My mom assured my dad that he was only going to stay with us until we found his owners/ a home because we already had 2 dogs, but it soon became clear that he was here to stay. We called him Houdini, or Houdi for short. He was with us for just about 13 years, before he passed away back in January of this year. My family and I miss him everyday. I just know this good boy is going to find a nice loving home soon ❤❤
@maraleighkipling8895 My parents had the same situation. She was around 7 years old, running between cars on busy town roads. After a brief trip to the shelter she was adopted. She was so poorly, stomach problems, lice, fur was filthy, teeth worn down. But recovered quickly, and was the most beautiful, kind, loving and loyal little lady. Oh and incredibly clever, was fully trained by previous owners who were too old to keep up with her. We enjoyed every minute of the 5 years we had with her, and we know she did too.
I just checked and Zeus has still not been adopted. Just click the link below the video. I pray he gets adopted soon. 💝🙏
So she stole the dog!
@@stephensmith60not necessarily! She said the old owners could not keep up with her. Meaning she might have gotten out. Got picked up the went to the shelter where maybe they scanned for a micro chip contacted the previous owners. The could've just said they couldn't deal with her and were going to just leave her there n the person who found her decided to adopt her instead. Not saying that's exactly what happened just saying there ARE other plausible n possible suggestions that do not include her "stealing " the dog. For all we know old owners could have taken the dog back and then decided that the dog would be better off with the other person. You just never know what the story is unless you are there to witness it! And sometimes when you're told the whole story providing ppl don't leave out things or embellish other things wen relaying what happened. My point is u just never know but I think it's time that society as a whole gets rid of this negative mindset and stops assuming the worst about everything and everyone. I will admit that sometimes it IS warranted but the majority of the time it's not !
@@MelMackenzie-o6p Of course she said that. What better excuse! This certainly wouldn't be the first, or last, someone like her stole a dog and then made up some lame excuse! Shame on her! Shame on you!
This is not a low effort Dog. The Border collie absolutely needs the room to run, and extensive training. It's not that they have any issues that need to be taken care of generally, it's that they are one of the smartest Dog breeds and can suffer greatly without the mental stimulation they would receive as working Dogs. However, for those willing to commit to the effort they are amazing and well worth the effort.
One of the smartest most sensitive dogs on the planet... he deserves better
Reminds me of my Border Collie, Hope. She was the smallest of the litter with half a foot missing and nobody wanted her. She came up to me and wanted on my lap. I thought in that moment, your coming home with me.
Had her for 16 years. They where beautiful years.
She is always in my thoughts.
🙏
I lost my border collie last year and still cry every day. He was my child. Smartest dog ever
so so sorry for your loss.
anyone who says we don't deserve dogs has never had to say goodbye to one.
I know…and it never fades…
I had to move out of my parents' without my Border Collie eleven years ago and I cried almost weekly because I could only see her every couple months. She passed away three years ago and I still burst into tears sometimes. But that's fine. She was worth every single tear and many more.
Me too, I miss my bc bff every day

The blinking could actually be the dog being too tired, but doesn’t want to fall asleep because of what’s happened. One of my rescues did that until comfortable with the situation.
@@thomasedward1525 Mel was saying that border collies don’t really like when their environment changes so that could be the reason why he hasn’t been sleeping..
I had Border Collies for 40 years. They are great dogs. Very loyal to their person and hard workers. Always willing to put forth 100%. They do tend to be a little reserved and skittish but very intelligent. I love them so very much. However over the years my arthritis has made it hard to have them. I cant keep up with them anymore. Hope this fellow finds a home with people who understand the breed and have the energy to keep up with them.
Please see if there's a Human e Society near where you are, maybe you can arrange just to visit and pet the ones that need attention

Border collies are bred to work and that gives them joy.
Being locked up in a kennel like that, listening to the other dogs crying and barking without any companionship for 4 days is truly torture for a border collie.
And if you leave them to figure out their own work as a couple of mine have, they teach themselves to operate the ice maker on the front of the fridge when they want ice cubes, open the other dogs crate door latches when they think it’s time to let them out (He let the dogs out! :) ), open the lever door knobs unless you remember to lock them, etc. (mine’s not yet learned how to operate the outside door bolt locks). Their intelligence is amazing and entertaining, but yes, you have to give them meaningful outlets for their great intelligence. They are absolutely amazing and wonderful family members if you can give them what they also need and deserve.
It does, and border collies are also incredible family dogs. They’re loyal, sensitive, and sweet dogs. Their family gives them joy too.
They are not motivated by food: they want to play a game as a reward. They are impossibly good dogs.
@decolonizeEverywhere Sadly many shelters don't have a choice :/ they likely have a daily exercise schedule and if it's a really nice shelter they might have enrichment.
City shelters (which I don't think this shelter is? I'm not sure) barely have enough volunteers to walk the dogs :(
Kona is with me watching and knows how these cattle dogs feel sad in the shelter, as Kona did as well. We wish he finds his new person soon and the love he deserves. 🐶❤

I had a Border Collie who lived for 14 years and one week. S he e had a lot of anxiety and trust issues.
She herded little kids in her early years, and birds and ducks.
She also herded UPS/FEDEX TRUCKS. SHE HATED GOING ON WALKS. SHE WAS SCARED OF EVERYTHING! We got her as a very young pup, from a back yard breeder!! But we ❤ed her! SO MUCH !
And miss her terribly! She was a Red/White Border Collie who lived and she was beautiful!
Okay, I’ve got lots of tears right now! Because I see Ginger’s eyes..in those black eyes, even though hers were brown.
💔. YES!!! Zeus!!!
Please name him Zeus!!!! PERFECT!!!!!
Mine lived 14 years and 12 days but then my petsitter put her to sleep because he screwed up.
😱OMG
I had a border collie, Diesel, that I got off of a guy that no longer want him because he dug holes in his yard. The guy got tired of Diesel from doing that. He also told me that Diesel was only 5 years old. Well when I went to take Diesel to the vet, he was much older. Like 10-12 years old. But it didn't matter to me. Diesel was my side x side riding buddy! He also kept me busy walking laps around our 5 acres! We had to check out the fences. We never dug holes because we kept busy doing work with the goats. But unfortunately, Diesel got a huge tumor on his chest. It was a fast growing one. I took him to the vet in October when we first dicovered it, it was the size of an apple. They drew samples and it was cancer. In January, it was a size of a pumpkin, and he couldnt keep food down and lost 10 lbs. We had him put down. But he was the best dog I had! I still miss him. Its been 4 years now. I hope this dog finds a loving home and he can live out the rest of his life happy and carefree! ❤
Love your story, thank you for sharing. You are a good girl 🤗
You gave Diesel the best life, you changed his life.
Your story tearing me up and feel so grateful that you gave him so much love towards the end of his life.
I bet he LOVED walking and checking fences! He finally got to do his job. ❤️
I wish there was a way for you and the dog in the video to connect
He was so gentle about eating that piece of jerky mid-petting. Like he was afraid of causing you to stop by moving. What a sweetheart.
It is a breed trait. My border collie blinks like this. She is the best dog ever. She got diagnosed with lymphoma about 5 years ago and we did 2 rounds of chemo and I now make her food. We are blessed to still have her. Best dog ever!!
Just food for dogs also has a formula you can get with a vets prescription for dogs going through chemo. Increases their immune system to fight the cancer. Best to you and your babies.
I learn so much from you about dogs. I can't wait to retire and rescue a shelter dog and also volunteer.
No aggression just sweet , gonna be a great boy.
I love what you do! My sweet BC, Jade did not have a sit or a down because she was trained to work cattle, she could have been hurt while working if she did either of those.
When I was young I had Border Collies. They are so wonderful and loyal. Now I'm old I don't have the energy to keep one proper. Being in a shelter would be so hard for him,
Thank you friend. They really are great dogs.
Omigosh! They’re such good dogs, but yeah…they’ve got a ton of energy. They heard something to do.
@@rockykanakadid you see my comment above? I'll try again. I tried emailing you too.
@@rockykanaka In the Netherlands you have to pay if you want to surrender an animal to a shelter. I can imagine people would make up stories like you say in this video, to get them to pick up the cat or dog or any other pet without charges. But animal control here will also check with the neighbours to try to find out if there was a truth to the story they've been told. Isn't that the same over there??
PS, sorry for adding this to your comment here. There was strangely enough no option to post a new comment, only reactions to other people's comments.
I mean truth be told, shelters look likely they are a hard setting for everyone... All that noise, and the smells, and all the movement that's happening out of your fov? That has to be incredibly overstimulating to say the least, especially for a herding dog whose job is to be in control.
For a 1yo Border Collie he seems pretty calm and balanced, but maybe it's that same overstimulation taxing his mental capacity to the max... I know a dog like that, she's also a rescue BC with the mildest temperament I've seen for the breed, which I find hilarious considering she was adopted by a dog walker that's probably one of the few people I know irl who knows what the breed is about, and was fully prepared to deal with their "limitless energy". But I've also seen cases where people went overboard with the training and the dog became aggressive... "Stimulation" isn't really the silver bullet it's portrayed to be. Dogs need to learn to enjoy downtime as well, especially working dogs.
I sincerely hope he finds a family that understands him and is able to keep him balanced.
Zeus is a beautiful boy!! I hope he finds the best home ever! He is wonderful!
This dog deserves good things.❤
The dog backs away from the collar. I hope the choke chain was not used to abuse him. Good luck handsome boy!
I fear it was 😟 He was very apprehensive.
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
The dog seemed way more apprehensive toward the silver chain, and a lot less toward the collar itself.
@@tammyfrancis7856 🤬🤬🤬🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Those are training collars and it was likely not used in the right way.😢
We have been involved in BC rescue for 15 years. We try to work with shelters and get them directed straight into a foster-based rescue. They are hard wired to control chaos. They shut down very quickly in a shelter environment where they cannot control the craziness.
Thank you for all you do!
Look how he moved in close to lay up against you. Love that.
My rescued Australian Shepard was 6 when I got him & I know he never had a bath because I got him from my family who never took care of him. He hated the bath & would avoid the bathroom like a plague but he loved the blow dryer. Had him for another 6 wonderful loving years. I treated him like the King he was meant to be. Miss him.❤😢
i know everyone thinks their breed of dog is special but border collies are really something else. When my little guy looks into my eyes and holds his gaze it's like he is peering into my soul...they are incredibly intense and sensitive creatures
they are so intelligent, they can learn to understand human language - I saw one distinguishing over 140 different dog toys by their names!
When you show him the collar, he backs away. That and his response when you held the treat above him. Both speaks volumes.
Not the collar, but the chain.
That’s what I was thinking
I don't say it's not true, but it's not always the case my dog that I adopted officially a few months back came to us really fearful of a lot of stuff from when he was a pup and I'm working with him now, but it takes a while and some things he can't get over so if he got lost or something someone could say I'm the one who hurt him if they don't know I got him this way. He's 4 yo now

@@stevetren9248 They are smarter and wiser than many humans.
The strange thing about it is that it isn't even close, the gap between them and 2nd is massive. You'd think it would be a continuous spectrum of intelligence but the jump to border collies is almost scary. "They have human like personalities" this is borne out by their astounding levels of empathy, they don't just know when you are sad but actually reflect your emotional state when caring for you.
Is Zeus still available? I had a border collie mix. She was the best dog ever and part of my soul died when she died from a fast moving disease. I still miss her so much! I love this sweet dog. He's beautiful!
I didn't realise until I was halfway through this video, but I saw myself in this dog and when you started to give him positive affirmations I cried, it felt like you were speaking to me as much as you were to him. I'm not trying to insert myself by saying that, I'm sharing it because I found it interesting that hearing those words in this setting, with empathy, was so powerful. You are absolutely right that we as humans do not value or practice positivity. We don't even seem to value it, I think that in part this is due to societal structure, but I think it also has a lot to do with the way the human brain functions to strongly remember negativity in order to keep us safe.
I am thankful that these dogs have someone who is helping them like this, I hope that if his signals are anything to go by that this dog is going to feel a whole lot better for having met you.
These are very astute observations! "powerful" is the perfect word for what Rocky is offering these loving, frightened, lonely and precious creatures.❤

The people who say you leave them worse just dont understand dogs. You do a wonderful job.🎉

I lost my border collie of 15 1/2 years two years ago on September 19 not a day has gone by that I haven’t thought about him since his passing I am 66 years old and I live alone I can’t even begin to describe the joy and the happiness and the companionship that he brought me for over 15 years and now just seeing this dog Zeus on your video has for the first time let me know that it’s time to consider getting another one it’s amazingThat dog Zeus is marked exactly like my border collie was I live in North Alabama and wish I was close enough to come and adopt that dog because I would in a heartbeat and give him a great home in the country and the love and CompanionshipThat he so Deserves
rbking - If you really want Zeus, I would call and see if they would be willing to help get him to you for adoption. The worse they can say is No. The best is Yes..... and you would have this wonderful dog for several years. Just a suggestion.
I know there are people who would volunteer to form a caravan to get this dog to you.
I did it one time to drive a dog to western Washington cause he was adopted from my area.
I’m sorry for your loss. It’s always so hard to lose our beloved pets. Thank you for thinking of adopting another border collie - maybe even Zeus from the video. I helped with a volunteer pet adoption transport network once. I don’t know if Animal Friends of the Valleys would work with one, but it’s a cool way to help adopted pets get to their new homes and families when they are far apart! ❤️🐾❤️
Where there is a will there is a way, may Zeus find his way to you and your heart.
One time I told a shelter that was 500 miles away that I would take a dog if he could hitch hike half way. The animal control officer drove him to the halfway point. The beagle-boxer mix had been in the shelter for five months. Perfect match for us! ❤
I absolutely love seeing Mel. She's one in a million. Thank you for all you do Mel! The love just exudes from you. I can feel it all the way over here. 💖
I had a boarder collie, she was so smart, loyal and well behaved❣️She was pregnant when I adopted her, the shelter didn’t know. She gave birth to 5 adorable puppies, who were all adopted by family and friends. They all had long, full, happy lives!
I hope and pray that this boy will find his family soon! 🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷🩷
Thank you Officer Matthews for your help.
He’s is seriously a BEAUTIFUL DOG!! He’s seems so sweet. I hope and pray he finds a good home!! Please do an update on him.
Oh he is gorgeous and he was so tired bless him. Says a lot when he backed away from his collar, so sad. Hope he finds a great home x
I am so sorry for your loss, Theresa. Some people just don't understand that dogs have feelings just like us and if they get stressed or triggered, they can lash out. I hope that Rocky naming this beautiful boy after your Zeus gives you a bit of comfort. That plaque that the new owners can have will keep his memory alive with them as it will be with all of us. ❤
I have a heavy heart on your behalf ❤
Theresa I’m so sorry for your loss. I’ve been there & nothing can fix it. Not everyone has ever had the wonderful relationship with a dog. I feel sorry for them. I have a terrier mix. He was rescued from an elderly couple who loved him, but they couldn’t walk him. So he used his kennel as his bathroom. A visiting nurse talked the couple into letting her adopt him. This lady had 2 teenagers who spoiled the dog rotten! They were making a life changing decision. They were loading an RV & going cross country. They had an old dog and when he passed they didn’t want a lively pup in the RV. A mutual friend brought us together & Bruno just ran around like a crazy thing, then ended up in my arms. I’ve had him about 10 years & daily he surprises me with something he does that I didn’t teach him. He’s the love of my life!
Border Collies are amazing dogs. Both as working/herding dogs, and as agility dogs. Some of the top agility dogs are BC. I had a BC/Spaniel mix and a BC/Spitz? mix. One from a shelter, and the other found dumped on the street. They were wonderful. I hope Zeus finds a great home where he can feel safe and loved.
I have a Border Collie/Australian Shepard mix, her name is Holly. She is smart, silly and extremely loving. They just like to be around you, alllllllll the time. He is beautiful and needs lots of love and playing.
My pup is the same mix❤️Unbelievably smart and sweet. So funny, too!
Mel is an Angel.. and so are you! ❤❤🙏🙏
Ahhhb he’s so precious I really hope he gets adopted by an experienced, loving family!
He has the sweetest expressions. I love how curious he was as you opened the mail and his reaction to the chicken toy made me laugh. I hope he finds the perfect family soon.
Border Collie's live to be given a purpose. He is a beautiful boy.
Yup. He is miserable because he does not have his "flock" (whatever that is for him), or open space. Take him into the garden and let him run free and watch him change into a different dog.
Everyone's live to be given a purpose
I love how Zeus sits closer and closer to you while you open the generous gifts.
Adorable! My Border Collie/Aussie does this, too- she's got to know EVERYTHING that goes on😁
The smartest, most amazing dog breed ever! So loyal and faithful!
Oh you are so caring to these lost babies !! I really wish I could adopt one, but I'm in Texas. Thank you for all you do for them❤
Such a beautiful dog, I miss my border collie Cheplin so much... brings back memories.
"Some of you are pickles," he says with a giggle. Yes, I've known a few pickles and it's great when you get to the point where you can acknowledge that with a smile. Good on you, Rocky!
We lost a 19 YO rescue Border Collie last Fall. I would love to adopt Zeus but live too far away in Boise, Idaho. What a great dog! I know that he will find a good loving home.
Thanks for all that you do for these fur friends Rocky.

I'm in Meridian Idaho, I would LOVE to adopt him too! I lost my boy to cancer in 2018. I STILL miss him every day! He was my heart dog! Funny Rocky said they aren't affectionate, my boy was extremely affectionate! He slept with me, and every night he would get up and come over to me, sniff my face and give me a kiss and then go lay down again right up against me. My husband said he was just checking to see if I was ok. He loved to be brushed, he'd fall asleep and roll over so I could brush his tummy. He was just adorable!❤
What beautiful sentiments expressed by the gifter who couldn't save her dog. Her vulnerability will help other dog owners. And Zeus is the perfect name for this lovely Border Collie.
I was moved to tears by that😢
Rocky, I LOVE this sweet dog. We had a border collie named Jack for sixteen years, until we finally had to let him go. It was so heartbreaking. He's been gone three years now and we all miss him so much. I wish we lived closer where I could come to the shelter. I would have come today to try to adopt this sweet dog. I hope he finds the absolute perfect home full of love and patience.
Sorry for your loss. Jack was the first name that popped into my head when Rocky said he needs a name. But Zeus is good, too.
Loved this video, this dog, his new name, how you applied what you have learned Rocky, Alexis and her always supportive presence, Mel and her divinity and magic and all the heartfelt generous outpourings thru the mail. Zeus, this ginormous dog hug and LOVE is all for you buddy. I am seeing and feeling your new healing, loving and fulfilling home in your life NOW in this expanding moment!❤️❤️❤️💫🤩
Border collies are the most brilliant ❤ Zeus is a beautiful angel boy🩵
You are the most sympathetic person. Thank you for caring for these fearful pups!
Sending loving, calm and positive energy from South Africa to surround precious boy,
💚ZEUS💚 for a very quick adoption into the most amazing home 🏡 Be blessed always beautiful soul ❤
Oh he’s gorgeous. Mel is an angel on Earth. Those dogs all can feel her love for them.
I lived with my grandparents on their farm and their herd dog for their milk cows was a border collie (slightly overweight)😂 named Lady. And her coloring was exactly like this border collie.❤❤❤
Yes, we took on another one just like him, also’Lady’. She was just that…not a dog but a lady. She didn’t do the mutual dog sniffing each other, just tolerated it. She would go into herding ‘wolf mode’ really fast when strangers came around. Smart, sweet, and lived to 17.
Collies do have such expressive eyes and are so sensitive.
@sarahpenny3852 that's why I love collies. I've always been afraid of dogs but collies and labs are like another thing. I'm a huge Cat Person but Collies are so sweet. 🥰
Poor baby. I just watched “Pumpkin” and was so touched by what you do!! I did not know until I adopted my 1st rescue a few yrs ago, that they will not adopt dogs considered to be shy to people with kids. I have 2 girls and felt awful about this! You are helping them so much come out of their shell. I also love the groomer. They feel her love. New subscriber now! My 10yr old animal lover recognized your voice from RUclips kids and is a subscriber on there. Thanks for all you do!
My 2 rescues and I have taken to watching sitting with dogs every night as we fall asleep, your voice soothes all 3 of us. We love and pray for you.
I have seen them be great foster parents for kittens.
Joke is that BC are part cat
@@Texas240 hahahaha that makes sense!
@@laurieholmes4572It gets funnier. I swear my BC reads my messages. I was eating a tuna sandwich when I started watching. After your comment, my girl smelled what I was eating and demanded some tuna.
@@Texas240 hahahaha that I would love to see lol!
My BC herds the cats around the house and grooms them.
