  • Basel is served by green BVB city trams and yellow BLT regional trams. Both companies share the same tracks in the city centre. The central area has intensive street running, but with segregated lanes and tram-only streets. BLT runs as a light railway outside the city. The system is meter gauge, 600Vdc.
August 2022- The Swiss Schindler cars are still in use. Well maintained and refurbished, they typically run as three-car trains including a low-floor trailer for mobility access. The rest of the fleet is comprised of Siemens Combino (2000-02) and Bombardier Flexity 2 (2014-17) with various lengths. As part of the tendering process, the environmentally-minded Swiss required the builders of the new trams to find new users for the old trams, rather than just scrapping them. The classic Duewags went to Belgrade (Serbia) and the articulated Schindlers are now in Sofia (Bulgaria). The trams can be recognised by the green Basel livery, minus the BVB logo.
