This video, with all the errors made and how to correct them, is more valuable than any other "how to pour epoxy" video anywhere. Well done and thank you.
Well done and thanks for the detail. I am contemplating a clear coat over less than stellar black concrete countertops in my outdoor kitchen. It's hard to tell from the camera work but it looks like the epoxy is truly self leveling, not "sort of" self leveling. This would be critical for my application as I am trying to essentially remove imperfections with a 1/8" coat of epoxy.
Looks good. Just did my first pour, over a homemade butcher block. Should have done that seal coat first, had to babysit that first pour forever to keep the bubbles out of the pour. Beginner mistakes. Lol
Tyler- 2 years post would you do it again? How have they held up? I'm where you were 2 years ago trying to decide on quartz, concrete, or some other kind of countertop. What would you suggest?
Hey great video and thankyou for the corrections as you went along. My only question is what do you do on the wall side just let the apocy adhere to the sheetrock/paint? .
That turned out super sweet. I don’t think I would try it but you can stop by and do it. Ha! I got say tho, I have never had good luck with the Tyte Bond 3. Every time I have used it, the joints separate at certain spots. Must be just me cause I never hear this from anyone else.
How much does a sheet of partical board cost at homedepot ? for the size your using for the countertops . I'm thinking about remodeling my kitchen.great job this is amazing
There is a reason people get rid of over the counter sinks and install under the counter sinks. No matter how well you seal them, dirt and gunk always gets under the flanges and starts to rot.
I did my kitchen about a year ago. I did use MDF, i used primer to "seal" the mdf. I also learned a lot, 1) mix the epoxy for a while don't think that it dries in a instant, epoxy allows you to work it. I feel that the more its mix the less thick the consistency is. Also I wish that i had the tool i have today
you need to watch Stone Coat Counter tops and follow their instructions and you will shorten your time and work. I like your color and it did turn our well
Hi, nice work, A Designer here, and not a big fan of epoxy (specially environmentally speaking) Concrete is a big thing indesign now adays, less is more. Anther tip as a designer making something looks like something else is considered under modern school (which is old already) In contemporary age we use materials are they are intended to be used. So making epoxy look like marble considered as a Not strong design (as per my teacher) haha. Any way. I do believe some epoxy usage are pretty sick though, I saw one time this bar with foggy epoxy and lights underneath, was pretty sick!
Hey I have a question about tiling the metal front of a fireplace with slate stone. I plan on attaching it to cement board and then placing it over the metal front but I am looking for a high heat adhesive that will work for this do you have any suggestions on a brand that might work
If the counter is a bit sticky after it's supposed to be dry, that would mean you needed to mix parts A and B more thoroughly. Epoxy dries hard, not sticky. Condensation must have gotten in.
Beautiful. But Amateur here. Question. Since you didn’t use a full board to fit the entire space. Where the two boards met did you fill the line met with wood filler at all and smooth it out? Or since it was right the epoxy didn’t go through or was an issue? Just wondering if you would see the seam line or not too. Also, did you caulk around the wall before the poor? Didn’t see if u did or not. Thanks!
You could have used bondo on those edges as well, then painted it, then re-apply epoxy over that... You need to wait at least a week before you put that sink in.
Hey Nick. I'm an Epoxy Resin installer in New York. You can get "contractor grade" granite for about the same price as having me do your counters but it's a much longer process (I'm in & out in a few days without demo), there is limited color choice and good luck finding matching slabs. And there's not too much uglier than cheap granite imo.
@@youdollpete very nice of you to reply. I am considering resin just for the color and variations available. I am half terrified but I will start with a couple of end tables first.
You say that you used paint to give the color you want for the counter. What kind of paint did you use? Was it just basic latex paint or some other kind? Also, what's the ratio that you used for the paint? BTW, I love that video. I've watched a few on the subject and this one really shows where to be careful. Thanks!
Thanks for the great tutorial! Our videos often teach our viewers tips from our mistakes as well (not ideal for us 😆) but in the end your project is beautiful! We met Total Boat at a conference this summer and are anxious to partner with them and create our own countertops! Do you have any other tips or afterthoughts before we dive into our project?
Decent. Normally, the substrate is painted first (as you said) and then you clean the surface with 90% isopropyl alcohol after sanding, not just water.
Tyler, you really should wear a respirator when cutting particle board. ( sorry, just could not help myself) It is amazing how expensive particle board as gotten.Countertops look great.
Excellent video! Question: Would it not also be prudent to at least prime, if not paint the underside? MDF is like a sponge and would prevent any potential damage
Any time I use particle board in a wet area, say, around a kitchen sink, I ALWAYS seal the edges around and under the sink with multiple layers of a good primer paint. No matter how well you caulk and seal around that sink, water always finds a way around it. Wet particle board quickly becomes loose sawdust. With all that effort it would be a shame if the particle board should disintegrate under all that epoxy.
Love this video but the order of operations seems insane to me. Why did you cut the sink cutout before pouring the epoxy? Could have saved yourself MAJOR headaches for the price of, like, a quarter quart of epoxy?
Painting a primer over the wood before epoxy will reduce the air bubbles dramatically. When ever I pour over bare wood lots of air comes up. Even after torching the air keeps coming up for a while. You right next time use a quality primer base. I have had the best success using appliance paint as a base.
How hard is this stuff when fully cured? Are we talking about hard like granite or glass, or can you scuff it with a knife if you, I dunno, cut a sandwich on it or something?
I think you will be very pleasantly surprised by the durability of these counter tops. I am sure it depends with what company you choose to go with. On my counter tops, they began yellowing, which looked horrible! But the second company I went with has a very good quality epoxy with a uv protectant in it, especially if you are doing a white marble, you want something with uv protection in it, also an art epoxy or platinum works fantastic. I also use what is called the ultimate top coat, which has a non yellowing factor as well as uv protectant AND is the most durable you can get. It resists and scratches and stains better then anything out there! PLUS, if you apply the top coat as I said, you can immediately start sewing your counter tops anyway you need or want to. It is also very much used in floors. Otherwise, it takes 4 to 6 weeks for it to completely cure. You can use them gently, but in order to get a finish that will last longer than you will want them, you have to pay attention to the little things such as this. I really enjoyed your video and how descriptive you are and the fact you work with your dad. I will become a subscriber and follower after watching you.
Guess Tyler is an anti-masker ;) If there's been one good thing about 2020, I now have an overabundance of dust masks available for when I can't find my respirator.

I hate those TV "DIY shows" that show you only the edited, perfectly done cuts. They teach you NOTHING.
DIY=saved lots of $$ .... working with Dad=priceless !
Great job on the counter top and great job correcting your mistake on the counter sides.
Thank you I've been looking for a tutorial for wood and you broke it down to the T..❤

I am going to do this!! Loved the video! Thank you!
Looks good. Just did my first pour, over a homemade butcher block. Should have done that seal coat first, had to babysit that first pour forever to keep the bubbles out of the pour. Beginner mistakes. Lol
Good looking counter tops

Absolutely beautiful counters and great tutorial.
Mighty fine job Tyler awsome color to see on the next video.
Great Job Sir.
Beautiful job!!
Any chance you can give us an update on the counter top, how’s the epoxy holding up etc?
good work and a compact crew ... successful bro
Looks great! Some great building time with your dad.
Nice job dressing up the edges. Thanks for the lessons learned. You don't need my opinion, but I think it turned out fantastic.
I love the marble look you went with for the counter top. It looks great.
That turned out awesome!!!!
Nice work 👍
perfect project sir

Yes, but we did caulk the seam before pouring the epoxy.
Great video! I’ve watched it several times. I’m going to try it. Oh, tell your Dad Go Blue 😁
Great work

Really beautiful job done there! Great job Tyler 👌
Great video Tyler. Thanks for taking the time to make great content.
nice video would be great to have the costs breakdown as well
how many days/weeks did this take? If it was one person what do you think? Week?
very nice for the first time, Happy New Year.

How have the counters held up? Do they still look as good as when you did them?
Yes they have, it’s like anything else. The more you take care the more it last .
What epoxy brand did you use?
you need to watch Stone Coat Counter tops and follow their instructions and you will shorten your time and work. I like your color and it did turn our well
Good job man
First one of these I've seen Tyler just a bit stressed, nice to see the pros make mistakes and corrections.
ii learned a lot thank you so much.....
Great video!
Good video Tyler! Thanks for sharing it with us!💖👌👍😎JP
I hope you actually said that particle board is a DUSTaster, at least that is what I heard in my head. I always enjoy your videos, really inspiring.
Sweet lemonade!
Excellent video. I love the lessons learned. Great job.

Love it👍🏻

What was the total money spent to do this countertop?
Love it!

We love how this turned out, it is gorgeous! Great video and tips!
how is the durability of the epoxy compared to other materials?
Would love a rough estimate of the total cost of this. Epoxy is expensive. Would be good to see how much cheaper this was then quartz or something.

Watch StoneCoat Counter Top videos and product line to take your countertops to the next level

And while sanding epoxy. Not having a mask arround in the midst of a deadly pandemic seems unwise...
Excellent video! Question: Would it not also be prudent to at least prime, if not paint the underside? MDF is like a sponge and would prevent any potential damage
With mdf you dont need to paint if color you use is opaque but you can prime and undercoat with latex paint then pour epoxy
How long did this project take to complete with set times and what’s the estimated cost of materials?
Any time I use particle board in a wet area, say, around a kitchen sink, I ALWAYS seal the edges around and under the sink with multiple layers of a good primer paint. No matter how well you caulk and seal around that sink, water always finds a way around it. Wet particle board quickly becomes loose sawdust. With all that effort it would be a shame if the particle board should disintegrate under all that epoxy.
excellent point. It only takes a small amount of water to destroy particle board.
Love this video but the order of operations seems insane to me. Why did you cut the sink cutout before pouring the epoxy? Could have saved yourself MAJOR headaches for the price of, like, a quarter quart of epoxy?
Hi,
What kind of paint have you used for in the base color?
TXS
Lookin good. Great job💥👍🏼 we all got to learn.💥👊🏻Go Blue dad💥😬

Tyler, if you haven't already done so please start a video channel on Rumble.
Might be a good way to start with the edging. Never have to tape the outside .

Remember, it's only a mistake if you can't fix it. I think the count top looks great!

Shame about them edges but looked good though, lots hours put into it no doubt

Use common sense... and a cutting board. LOL

I wonder what happens if you put a hot cup of coffee on top of it
After a month or so it is fully cured. You could put a hot pan on it and it will be fine.
Stone Coat thats all i can say
Because is a publicity video everybody ask for ppe ! But no body in real life use them so true
How much money did this save you?
What about the underside? Wouldn't guests just see the plain particle board when they drop a spoon?
very good Tyler, but do you pay your father to help you ?? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💯👍👏👏👏👏👏
What is the meaning of DIY
Do It Yourself.
Thumbs up if you think Tyler should be wearing a respirator 😆
you are soo handsome
