Catering is the last thing an airline should consider to cut because it’s the most direct impression passengers will have... It’s really not a good idea to let the passengers stay hungry on a long flight unless they brand themselves as lccs, even us airlines wouldn’t do that.
absolutely, I think at the moment, reduce free baggage allowance/ increase extra baggage fees, reduce entertainment system content etc. are the way to go. Air Canada is now serving just cold food in long haul economy, while Cathay is still serving two full meals.

Furthermore I like how symmetrical flag is, so I put it on my wall! 😍🇨🇦 I was born and raised in Hong Kong, I picked up my accent from school, family and friends. my school teachers are from all over the world including USA, England and South Africa. Most of my relatives from the UK, and friends from all over the world

That spinning thing on the cup holder reminds me of Cathay's older seats on the A330/777. Also, congrats for getting the whole row to yourself, I also had this experience on my Air New Zealand 787 from Singapore to Auckland last year!

Well done. To answer your question, I do pack an extra shirt and essentially one extra change of clothes because I'm always afraid my checked luggage won't make it to my destination. Thankfully it's only happened once.

One of my most anticipated airlines. Heard a lot of positive remarks about this airline and would love to try it when the sky is open and free for flying again.

So strange for a premium carrier to charge passengers for snacks and drink on medium haul flight even before the global pandemic
totally, not the way I like!
It just means they are transitioning to a low-cost carrier service model with premium airline prices. A clear indicator the death knell is sounding.
@@NANICU I mean they have been struggling a bit financially last time I checked. I'm not too surprised about the drop in quality. It's a shame though
I flew Etihad from Abu Dhabi to Sydney in November last year and was amazed that they were trying to charge people for snacks. On the other legs to/from I flew Garuda Indonesia and KLM and both of them had far better service and options of free food/drink. On Etihad I felt like I was inconveniencing the crew every time I asked for water... on a 12 hour flight!
I am curious when Etihad charge u for drinks 🤪.....aswell they have lot of free food ....thouse snaks wich u say they charge u ...are extra on duty free and no one force u to buy it.....u guys for hate u are first!

The grouting in the shower in the lounge at Abu Dhabi Airport looked like it could do with a good clean! That wasn`t a bad effort from Etihad overall, except for the reduction in catering and having to pay for snacks. Thanks for keeping us in the air Jayden in these times without travel.
haha there's only 1-2 shower rooms in the lounge so very high usage and little cleaning time. Also it opens 24/7 so maintenance is hard. Hopefully they're using this time to do something. Thanks Pierre :D

Nice review Jayden! Aside from the cost cutting measures, i think Etihad 787 cabin is looking stylish. I believe they omitted the arrival meal to urge you to buy their snack instead. A bit cheapskate in my opinion. But, did they offer any free water/juices/snacks in the galley?
indeed, seats and lavatories have premium, lux touches. Agree, but they hardly got any orders haha. I saw zero orders on all my flights. Yep the stuff you normally see in the cart during meal service (water, cheap juice and biscuits were available all time) Thanks for watching mate!
20:06 Etihad plays a Customs Hong Kong video. Hong Kong has very strict measures with customs. I think many airlines like Cathay, Play the customs video when arriving into HK.
nah so far in my experience only Etihad does! Some airlines make announcements about it, but not Cathay :)

Yes the landing gear on the 787 and 350 are tilted at a different angle to other aircraft so landing is always harder! Thank you Diane!

World Class video Jayden, I flew edihad 4 times before (HKG to London via Abu Dhabi two times) and they were very good. This was 4 years ago so and they had very good covers and free food and drinks. What a shame they have changed so much. Its almost like they are now a low cost airline. Thanks for the upload!

Actually, it’s the result of the lack of strategy and hazardous investments (Alitalia, Air Berlin and Jet Airways) and they ain’t no global alliance (Star Alliance, SkyTeam or OW) to support their business. And above all, ABU is not attractive vs. DOH and DXB. Some aviation experts predict they will be acquired by Emirates or worse be in bankruptcy in the coming years...
Used to be soooo good! Always flew business with them but no more !

Etihad has improved their meals a bit this year, the year before, they were only giving a hot entree with a bread roll, 2 items total on a tray, they had nerve to say it was to be 'economically friendly' as an excuse..sigh.
I have done trip reports on 4 flights back in 2018, during which they didn't have a menu for snacks for sale. It would appear Etihad has neglected the goal of being the luxurious boutique airline they had aimed for back then. Even the A320 and A321 (AUH ISB / KHI AUH) I flew on have since had their IFE screens removed entirely, they remind me of North American air carriers LOL

Yep the new catering they rolled out last year was horrid and tiny. Glad they have scrapped that now. They definitely don’t have the premium image anymore especially in economy class. Thanks so much for watching. I’m doing fine in Australia, hope all is well with you :)

Really sad how EY has been hit with cost cutting measures lately. When I flew them in 2015-16 they gave out menus in economy, good wrapped headphones, a large pillow/blanket, and two main meals/one sandwich on a flight from Chicago-Abu Dhabi! And then a decent snack bag on shorter flights like Islamabad-Abu Dhabi. However the meal portion still looks decent nowadays!

I may fly with this airline for the first time this summer from JFK to Abu Dhabi to Hyderabad all on the 787-9's. I have always flown Emirates, but I would like try out Etihad this time and it is much cheaper as well. Hopefully all goes well.

26:53 - totally thought this was Gatwick Airport given the bridge behind! Such a great idea to build the bridge to the satellite terminal, gives many opportunities for aircraft photography and also eliminates the need to take the bus there. Have you been to the satellite terminal before, if so, is it open only if you're boarding a flight there?
haha ikr! I've been there before by bus, and in my memory, yes it is one way so only if you're boarding there.

That airport seems quite cramped! and a very tiny lounge.
The food served onboard did not look good at all. I'm surprised by Etihad. i thought it would look much better than that.
I also thought you would be able to order an additional drink after your meal. Has Etihad turned into Budget Airline?
yeah very tiny lounge, it used to accommodate Etihad gold too, now it's Virgin gold only thank god. Otherwise there would be no where to stand! They used to be a lot better, I had a very good egg noodle on this route last year, I was praising it so much. this curry rice was disgusting... Thanks for watching :)

If it is Thursday Jayden is back !! I always carry on board a spare casual golf type shirt and some track suit pants from K Mart !! Just in case I or the crew spill something on me...and the pants are great if there are no pyjamas on offer in Business Class which seems the norm these days !! Great vision and sound on take off !! For years Etihad was the best airline out of Australia in termsof seating and service. I must admit I only flew First or Business with them and they were superb.Then they lost nearly a billion US dollars and the cost cutting began and also had deals with some airlines that went broke such as Air Berlin. Some friends flew with them in economy from Melbourne to Abu Dhabi....nearly 14 hours with ONE meal served and then you could buy anything from the menu...other friends have flown in Business Class and they said the decline in many aspects was evident. Etihad are sitting in the Middle East with Emirates next door and Qatar just down the road. Tough business when you are up against these two !! The cabin bitch from hell...probably having a bad day or need re training...right here right now !! Thanks mate...really enjoyed it !!

I will have to say my 17 hour flight with American was way better than this Etihad flight, lots of food, free snacks, lots of free drinks to choose from, no price on menu. The senior crew could've used that time chatting with customers like Qantas crew would, instead of bla bla bla.

yep it sure was!! 787 landings are rarely smooth too!
Great video Jayden. Eithad used to be compared next to Emirates, Qatar etc but nowadays not even close. According to many trip reports like this one and one by Simply Aviation on a 16 hr flight where they had very little food, they are looking more like a low cost carrrier. Specially with that “buy food on board” feature.
Thanks very much for watching! The one Simply Aviation had was more appalling, they have since increased the main and sides slightly. My first meal portion was ok, quite good in fact. But we need a second meal or snack!

I really hate the Thai Green Curry Chicken with Rice. I flew quite often with Etihad to Kuala Lumpur and the Chicken option looks so unappetising. And I don't eat beef so that sucks. They use to serve noodles on the asian route. I remember after seeing one of your older flights with Etihad.
I like Thai curry but the one on this flight was nothing like it haha. yeah noodles and sandwich, not anymore :(
@@JaydenWong True the Thai Green Curry Chicken from Etihad looks inadequate and you will still left hungry. Etihad is saving cost and maybe its best if you fly with Emirates or Qatar. They are generous in terms of food. Furthermore I really hate ignorant cabin crews. They just ruin your entire flight. Once I was told by a cabin crew that I am not allowed to video record eventhough its for my instastories.
My dog didn't much like the looooong engine spool-up. I hope more airlines don't adopt buy-on-board for basic items.
And, with you stuck in Adelaide, I saw United, HiFly, Saudia and Cathay movements in Sydney this morning :P
haha I don’t think your dog would ever want to fly then😂 we have nothing in Adelaide, but cathay is soon starting B777-300ER cargo service from Sydney to Hk via Adelaide!

The seat, IFE and outlets were quite OK for economy, but the food wasn't what you would expect from Etihad. You're probably correct in thinking they're cutting corners to save money, but it shouldn't cost that much more to serve a decent meal.

When Etihad became an anti tall person airline I stopped using them but have heard the cost cutting is changing them into the Ryan air of long haul flights .of course business and first class have had more money thrown at them .

I think they have been facing challenges for a while now and they are changing things up. I like flying them to NY business some years back on their 777 service. All airlines will be changing to survive now so I expect to see this kind of budget approach more often. I hope Etihad can weather this as I adore the UAE as it is a second second home for me. Yes I agree I hate zoom and face to face still the best in uni...and yes a few years ago I flew the same flight and really the cost cutting really shows. The cutlery now plastics yucks...I hate their headrest the side ones...and really not my fav airline ...once enough even at that time ...worse I guess these days...for me if I have to take a middle east carrier which usually I rather not it would be Qatar and then Emirates but not Etihad anymore...yes to your question on a change of tees esp if I know I would be having a fast shower in between flights...once again you looking good as always didi!😘
I saw the cost cutting measures in just the past year, cannot wonder how much has changed in 4-5 years. Still haven’t yet tried Qatar darn it, hopefully later this year or early next year i can!
@@JaydenWong yeahntry Qatar in fact a few times on Qatar and they got great amenities even in economy but I heard they also had cost cutting just prior to the pandemic. But yeah their a350 is awesome and the entertainment system sure can beat Emirates ICE...over all service pretty good just that for some reason maybe just me their meals esp their rice has got this funny taste and texture but over all good product...I really hope you try it soon...hugs didi stay safe...😘
Hi Jayden did you check in a bag with them. How strict are they with the 35kg baggage weight. Would they allow 2-3 kg over. Also what about the 7kg baggage

A lot of extra items charged for an international flight. Passengers assumes that empty premium seats are to be had for free during the flight and it's not fair for paying passengers who actually bought those seats. Charging extra is the norm.
if they're upgrading themselves to business or premium I'd blame them. However, they were upgrading to economy space and i believe they genuinely didn't know they upgraded themselves. I only knew because I am an aviation enthusiast.
Jeez was the pilot in rush or smtg?that is the hardest landing I've ever seen. But I've been through a sharp steep takeoff. I wonder if they planned the approach or just go on "their judgement"
It was windy that day around South China sea haha. You can heaps of diverted planes from Manila including Etihad 777-300ER and heaps of Philippine Airlines jets at the HKG stands
@@JaydenWong Ah that explains the hard landing. Nevertheless indeed i was quite shocked at the food. In fact just recently in Dec I travelled with a good airline(won't mention). They used to give amenity kits in economy class but they didn't give in the previous flight. Probably it is due to wastage. I wish to have gotten one but nah.
