Hey all! I left out the history of Commodity Fragrances to not drag this review out, but Commodity was out a while ago with a different range (some that have been now incorporated into their Scent Space range). This original range was also available in stores at Sephora Au. I believe they weren't doing well and was bought out by another company, they then revamped the range with this new line. You can still get the old scents in their Archives section of their website (so they are still available, just not often promoted) and you can get a sampler set of the archives range too!
I didn't have a chance to test how long all of these wore on the skin, simply because if I didn't like it I would wash it off after an hour or two. The general rule is that as the strength of the perfume increases, so does the longevity.
So i work at a sephora and i get to really test these out and even mix them with others and see what pairs with others as well. I personally own a Moss+ myself! moss was range i really liked. I also like milk but i think its something that for sure doesn't always work best on some peoples skin chemistry. I also own Rain from commodity. They have another range that doesn't follow the Expressive, bold, and personal pattern. Rain from that line is a personal favourite for me as well, and mixes with the Moss line so nicely for me. They have one called Nectar that i almost got as well that was really nice.
Yes! I remember that range from when they first launched it. I was tempted to get their sampler set of older fragrances (since that is available) but I wanted to get my hands on Milk 😅
Moss and rain are my favorites! I also liked Gold. My partner is very sensitive to chemical-y scents (like he is a sad, wet, dramatically dying cat if you put on unscented hand sanitizer) and moss is the only fragrance I've ever bought for him that he liked.
I wanted so badly to like the Milk fragrance, and Commodity as a whole with all of the hype. I bought a smaller sampler kit and I was so excited to try them but same as you, other than Moss and Gold, I just couldn't stand them. Milk was one of the bigger offenders, I'm so happy to hear someone else got the same weird chemical note because everyone seems to think I'm nuts 😆My set didn't include Juice, but I was really hoping it would be a winner when it released and it's just missing something for me.
I’m glad I’m not the only one, I feel crazy not liking it. I got a sample of Juice expressive too. I was going to include it here but I lost the sample bottle to spray it on camera. It was too jammy and one note for me. It needed brightness to it.
Moss intrigues me so much! I'm ordering the testing kit to see which one I like best! My favorite and most unique candle I've ever had was a gift from a friend who lives in Portland, Oregon. The candle smells like the Pacific Northwest rainforest, which is so earthy and green, but calming. I want to smell like this all the time!
I used to be obsessed with the book candles from Commodity and was crushed when the brand closed down. I'm so happy they were able to start up again and am hoping for more candles
I completely agree!! Milk smells like sweet burning tires / a sporting goods store to me... but I don't mean that in a bad way! I find it quite interesting, maybe I'll get a travel size for winter. I seriously love the velvet and moss lines though, and the new juice is pretty good too!
Ive also enterered my fragrance obsession era after getting bored with make up, its costly, but oh so fun!! I think ill pick this kit up as I'm sure I have a few of these on my wishlists. Really enjoyed this video! 😃
My favorite is Moss but the bold version. I also love Milk+ and don't get an alcohol vibe off the top. Try Paper like an fragrance primer!! Layer anything else on it and it just does something to it to make them last longer and give their notes a better chance to shine. I mix Paper+ with Milk+ and Moss+ (respectively and together) and it's been the best. I also layer Paper under fragrances like Sauvage, Invictus, and Spicebomb and I've loved the results.
Yea i also layer paper under other scents during the summer to make them less heavy smelling. I usually like super sweet scents but they can be too much during the summer.
I got the expressive version of this kit from work! For me...velvet...ughhhh!!! 💚💚💚 i'm going to have to figure out the other ones. But this range of smells. None of them are super floral, which is what makes me sick and doesn't EVER work. So i'm glad we're kind of on the same note of fragrance lines
Just goes to show you that scent react differently on everyone. I have a full size bottle of Milk Bold and it is one of my all time favorites! The rare fragrance that (on me) lasts 6+ hours. And I don’t pick up on a chemical note at all. Glad you found a different Commodity scent that works well for you!
I first bought some when they originally left Sephora and had some great discounted prices. I like Gold and Vetiver very much. I like warm and spicy scents.
If the idea of a milk perfume was attractive to you, you should try bianco latte by Giordini di Toscana. It doesn’t have a chemical scent to it. I have the same issue as you do, having headaches from certain perfumes. This one doesn’t cause any issues and smells like caramel milk with vanilla and honey
I have a few scents from the line, and I have found that I prefer the expressive ones more than the bold which is weird since I love a loud scent. Book, velvet, gold, and milk are in my collection. I have Dulce by Rosie, which I reach for more often than milk, and I always get complimented. Dulce reminds me of sweetened milk, which is comforting to me.
Gold is my favorite and I got so many compliments on. I was somber when I finished it. I have Milk now from a FabFitFun box and I do enjoy that but I miss my Gold
Yes I went into the perfume rabbit hole in 2022 and this year finally settling down with a small collection of perfumes including three bottles of commodity in scents Magnolia, Tonka and Gin. We have similar taste so I as well did not get the hype on Milk...
Thanks, Kat, you've saved me some money on the big sample set here! Tonka bean and other sweet fragrance notes often make me feel nauseated, so I already knew Milk expressive wouldn't be for me, and I also get headaches from anything with too much of a heavy musky or amber base, so I can rule out a few more. I'll have to find somewhere that stocks Commodity in store so I can smell Moss in all the levels, or perhaps get that Moss trial pack. It really sounds like my cup of tea as I do love a foresty scent, and they are harder to find in less masculine versions.
Hi! So this is really random but Fantasy Cosmetica has a perfume called Druid that is a lovely foresty scent but is quite bright and more unisex/feminine than masculine. (Should note I have never smelled Moss before so I have no idea if they are similar but it is foresty.)
Moss sounds like after the rain by arran made in Scotland. I have enjoyed that fragrance and like you suffer with migraines with certain fragrances. Charlie by revlon was a main culprit for triggering migraines, even if I smelt it on others! Enjoyed this video, thank you

I was JUST like you a few months back, and so similar to your reactions down to headaches and migraines too. What I have learned, don’t try to find true to life realistic scents from these higher end brands, they always make a twist to it and love to freaking stick cedar notes in everything. Honestly if you want to smell like a specific food, stick to the cheap brands, almost marketed to kids lol. I have been looking for a “Milk” scent forever and still haven’t really found it. The closest is Philosophy Fresh Cream, but it so realistic it almost smelled like turned cream to me. Give it a whirl, but I think a creamy vanilla might be a better fit, I know Chabeaud brand makes lots of milky vanilla type fragrances. P.S I adore Midnight in Milan :)
I am glad you also love Midnight in Milan! I thought it was going to give me a headache at first, but it is awesome! Yes! I have been hitting up the vanilla niche lately because it is a very safe note for me, and the more simple the better. I have ordered a few cheapy vanilla blind buys (that were highly reviewed) and if I want something more complicated I can just layer them :)

I have an older Commodity gift set that contains 4 deluxe mini sprays plus matching mini scented candles. The scents were Tea, Oolong, Orris and I think Paper (?). I have a tea blog which is why I purchased the set, good IG content 😉. Back then Commodity seemed to be releasing seasonal groups of scents. Quite honestly, I think people easily buy one bottle because they like the clean bottle designs. But I am not sure people go back to buy more, scents are challenging to get people to repeat buy. Keeping a company going is finding that product that people repeat-buy, or they buy the matching candles, body lotion etc. I still want their Gin fragrance, but it's now Archive and sold out. The site says they are bringing Archive back in small batches. I need to try Moss! Clean fragrances are my preference as well. Over time I have found I prefer French style perfumes. The trend for gourmond, spicy, or tonka bean in everything is not for me.
Yeah I think that's a fair statement. I do know some people are ride or die for Milk and it has become their signature daily fragrance, so that likely will be one people buy multiples of and realistically will be keeping the brand in business. I don't think the archive fragrances are leaving any time soon, but like you said, they are only releasing small batches. It wouldn't surprise me if they are gauging which ones are most popular to then release in the scent space format.
I’ve never tried commodity fragrances but Nest Madagascar Vanilla oil has that sharp isopropyl alcohol smell to me! It confused me because it’s oil so I wasn’t expecting the sharpness
I own a couple of the og fragrances from before they were bought out. I love tonka, mimosa, magnolia and necter. Tonka is a fabulous winter spicy/baked goods fragrance without being sweet. Magnolia and mimosa are both florals but without the weird baby powder undertones that most florals give me after being worn for a while. Nectar is usually my every day perfume. It's floral and citrus but with an interesting undertone. They all last for hours/all day on me(most fragrances last an hour tops). Nothing from the og line was too sweet and i loved the complexity. I don't own any of the new line but tried at my local sephora. All too sweet and just not for me.
I sampled Milk+ with Scent Bird. I thought I would love it and I kept getting headaches from it. It was awful. I had to give it away and couldnt finish it. So Im finding that I get reactions like you and Im sensitive. 😢

Commondity has appealed to me but the price and not being able to smell it in person has been where its ended for me 😂 Any perfume that has been described as green i seem to like, i also tend to go for vitrus and lighter perfumes as my nose is so sensitive strong scents give me a headache. I dont like smoke smells at all either although i love the smell of a woodfire in real life i dont want to smell it on me 😆
Lactonic scents are generally fine on me, but this has a chemical sharpness that is present even in the bottle or on the sample card... so I think it is a particular ingredient.
@@KitschSnitchuea i agree theres a sharpness to milk but it works nicely on my sweaters so I love it tho but i like gold more. Got a 10ml of milk and a 30ml of gold both in expressive. Papers nice as a base during the summer to make my cloying scents.
I’m not sure if we do. To be honest, I have hot weather fragrances in abundance (since I love fresh citrus scents) but I am looking for nice cool weather scents at the moment ☺️
Yeah I was worried that I wouldn't like any after I tried my first few. It seems to be a range that works really well for some people and horribly for others

I only have one bottle and I know I should use it before it goes bad but I'm super sad it's gone gone... my daughter gave me scandal for Christmas two years ago, we have a joke that she's my legs ♿and so she thought it was funny (if you look at the bottle you will get it) and that is my all time fav, think I need to ask her for another bottle this Christmas, I get lots and lots of compliments when I wear it, yet on her it smells like cat pee.. hahaha, and her fav smells like cat pee on me, so at least I know my fragrance is safe (the amount of times she's borrow lipstick or eyeshadow palette and I've not got them back is disgraceful!! LOL)

I wish I liked commodity. But it’s just awful on my skin chemistry. Paper is alright (and ironically I cannot stand Not A Perfume) and milk is very eh. But the rest I really dislike. The concept is great though.

Yes, the moss trio is a big recommendation from me! I struggle with finding more feminine moss scents too, and Moss expressive is perfect!

The smaller bottles smell different than the large bottle. I returned large bottle and purchased the small ones (pricier but happier with the scent)
That might be a discrepancy with batches rather than sizes. Luckily my large and sample smells the same

Fun fact, Commodity relaunched in 2021, having closed down in 2019. Nectar, Rain & Tea, since discontinued, were some of the original scents.

On me Milk smells way too smokey and woody! the expressive also projects so much and I can smell it all day
oh heck I was holding out for Juice review.. haha must be too fresh. I LOVE Moss. It's delicious, it's sweet and fresh without being sickly.

I had the same experience with Paper - expecting the similarity to Not a Perfume (which is so light and fresh on me), but really got almost nothing.
Commondity has appealed to me but the price and not being able to smell it in person has been where its ended for me 😂 Any perfume that has been described as green i seem to like, i also tend to go for vitrus and lighter perfumes as my nose is so sensitive strong scents give me a headache. I dont like smoke smells at all either although i love the smell of a woodfire in real life i dont want to smell it on me 😆
I HATED the milk one, I have a mini of the gold expressive and I like that a lot

That sharpness that bothers you could be the lactonic which can go sour. I don’t find anything convincingly creamy more like off milk.
Lactonic scents are generally fine on me, but this has a chemical sharpness that is present even in the bottle or on the sample card... so I think it is a particular ingredient.
@@KitschSnitchuea i agree theres a sharpness to milk but it works nicely on my sweaters so I love it tho but i like gold more. Got a 10ml of milk and a 30ml of gold both in expressive. Papers nice as a base during the summer to make my cloying scents.
Do you have access to Granado brand? They make fragrances to hot weather so everything is fresh
I’m not sure if we do. To be honest, I have hot weather fragrances in abundance (since I love fresh citrus scents) but I am looking for nice cool weather scents at the moment ☺️

I bought a discovery set and didn't like any. I think you'll love or hate them. I really wanted to like them.
Yeah I was worried that I wouldn't like any after I tried my first few. It seems to be a range that works really well for some people and horribly for others

@@KitschSnitch I’m not into these marshmallow scents at all. My husband loves them though. (Food, right?) I also had a thought that American and international marshmallows are entirely unlike the good ole pink & white ones from here.
💜💜💜tfs💜💜💜 just wondering if your missing that "CK" one that you stocked up on before they discontinued? I only have one bottle and I know I should use it before it goes bad but I'm super sad it's gone gone... my daughter gave me scandal for Christmas two years ago, we have a joke that she's my legs ♿and so she thought it was funny (if you look at the bottle you will get it) and that is my all time fav, think I need to ask her for another bottle this Christmas, I get lots and lots of compliments when I wear it, yet on her it smells like cat pee.. hahaha, and her fav smells like cat pee on me, so at least I know my fragrance is safe (the amount of times she's borrow lipstick or eyeshadow palette and I've not got them back is disgraceful!! LOL)

I wish I liked commodity. But it’s just awful on my skin chemistry. Paper is alright (and ironically I cannot stand Not A Perfume) and milk is very eh. But the rest I really dislike. The concept is great though.
I hated all these perfumes. I ended up giving my samples to my mum.
