- How to fix your Honeywell Humidifier HE 260A CHEAP and save a HUGE amount of money on your water bill!!! Is your home's Honeywell Humidifier constantly running water? Well save some time and money on the repair and fix it yourself! I show you exactly how to fix the issue yourself and save huge amounts of money on repairs.
The exact solenoid that works perfectly I bought off Ebay for $10 is this one (but any similar will work fine as mentioned in video): www.ebay.ca/itm...
Nice diy video. I had a new water heater installed. The installer put a new water line tap on the cold side of the water heater, where the old one was. The line ran to my humidifier, but no water would run when the furnace came on and the water valve kicked open. I checked the valve following your video. It wasn't the valve. It was the new cold water tap. When the installer tightened the water tap down, the needle that punctures the water line had slid off to the side of the water pipe, and hadn't punctured the water line. I re-seated the new tap, tightened it down. Water started spraying out of the new tap, until I had it tightened enough (and yes, I had turned the water off before hand. It was just back pressure water.) The humidifier works great again! Thanks!
This was great! While my problem (water constantly running) was not my problem (i had no water running), the description and explanation of how the parts of the valve and how they work was just what I needed to find and fix my issue.
My problem was that the little cone filter and the orifice in the inlet tube were completely blocked with minerals/crud. Once I knew the filter was there and where to look, the cleaning and re-assembly was easy. You would think that the Honeywell maintenance instructions would have mentioned the existence of this filter, in addition to the instructions for replacing the water pad.
Thanks for this great and useful video!!
The Pauls this particular comment should be pinned to top as most people have this problem above the hole causing it to run through. Thanks man!!
Thanks so much for the video. Using your instructions, I took the solenoid from my Honeywell unit apart. I didn't find a hole like you show but I did find a massive lime deposit that was holding the plunger open. A good cleaning and she'll be as good as new. Thanks!
You saved me from HVAC tech visit and likely rip-off bill! I had a new HVAVC installed 5 years ago. Air seemed to be a bit dry this winter (Cleveland, OH). Was not getting any water to humidifier pad. Process of elimination starting with simplest issue first - check water flow supply to pad....(1) Shut off water at saddle valve, (2) took off supply line at solenoid valve, (3) turned water back on at saddle valve - good water flow, (3) cleaned screen on inlet to solenoid (which I would not have known to dig in there and pull out the little bugger had I not watched your video), found little to no buildup, cleaned with white vinegar and toothbrush before re-inserting, (4) removed plastic outlet line on solenoid valve and DISCOVERED THE IDIOT (so called "professional") WHO INSTALLED THE UNIT HAD NOT REMOVED A LITTLE YELLOW PLUG installed in the plastic tube that runs from the outlet side of the solenoid valve to the humidifier pad drip tray when shipped from the factory! No problem now! Wondered why my filter always looked clean...THANKS FOR THE VIDEO! (A suggestion to improve future videos - chill on waving your hands around so much and moving parts around the work bench - you look like a magician playing the shell game.)
I have the same issue, thanks for the video. Wasn't too long at all you explained everything clearly, thanks a million. Sending you a virtual double double.
I had the opposite problem, no water flowing through the solenoid. Took mine off and found that the inlet hole was blocked. Cleared it with a pin and save $95 on a new one. Thanks for the helpful video that gave me the courage to take it apart!
Thanks for the video, it gave me courage to open mine up too. Mine was a different problem though as I was getting no water through the valve at all. I proved that the sail switch and humidity control worked fine and there was 24V getting to the valve when required. It turned out to be my intake line. I used a very small wire to free up the tiny hole in the end of it and it now works great. Thanks!!
Thanks dude!! You Rock!! I have the same problem. I took apart my valve after watching this video and sure enough, there was a hole. I live in Toronto.
I connected my humidifier to the hot water supply and the mineral crap in the hot water seems to gum them up more often, and cause "failures". I hope to be able to clean it and not be spending $$ on unnecessary parts. Toronto, also...I haven't heard of the sand blasting due to the water! I'm in North York, Willowdale etc, maybe the water is different?
Yyc, combine that with a city fresh water back flow valve and heating hot water from 6 degrees to 60 in your hot water tank…. Most homes will have over pressure issues. I was blowing part the toilet tank valve and humidifier each year until I installed a pressure reservoir. A city water pressure regulator wasn’t enough due to the pressure build when the water heater would kick on after pouring a bath and not using the water taps.
I have read that some guys use a shut-off valve to reduce the water flow to their humidifier when they have too much water pressure. Having hot water supplying your humidifier combined with a multi-turn valve to control the flow can be a problem. Hot water is recommended to increase the rate of evaporation, but it can destroy the o-ring in a multi-turn valve (it did mine). These valves should only be used in the fully open/closed position (read the box). The o-ring in the valve can be replaced if you are lucky enough to find one the right size, but it is usually easier to pop for the $10 for a new valve. You could change your water supply to the cold water pipe, but a better choice is to use a 1/4 turn ball-type shut-off valve. They are more dependable in the long run.
Thanks about the details , I'm motivated to fix mine now !!!!
Thanks for sharing your experience.🎉
Thank you so much! My house was so dry, I thought that I had developed a new super power (static electricity)! Glad we didn't start my son's gaming computer build!
My water pressure isn't as high as yours, but thanks for the tutorial. I had no water running, with your help I cleaned it out and things work fine. Thanks., also you can get a replacement unit from Amazon for around $30
Superbly helpful video!! I had other problem: the flow of water had stopped so there was not humid air being added to the furnace flow. I was able to open the valve assembly (thanks to Eganwp's video) and clear the 1/16 inch orifice with a pin. While the assembly was opened I removed the hard water scaling and cleaned up the inlet, outlet, and valve. I am sure it would become clogged again in another few years, but at least I know what to do.
ripped mine out prior to watching the video. Same problem dude. Great vid! Thanks!
Found it much easier to dip the body of the valve (but not the coil) into CLR. The salt was dissolved pretty quickly, and I was back in business.
Thank you for your video....I also live in Calgary and both my humidifiers solenoid are gone.
Cheers
Thank you for posting this, I am a new home owner and my previous owner installed one, I noticed continuous water flow in drain line, my inspector said it may be due to humidifier. But I learned recently the newer humidifier is not supposed to allow water flow when furnace is off. I have to look at mine and will update if this is going on with mine.
Congratulations ! You made a 10 minute video into a 22:50 video !
thank you for the video .....im also a calgarian and yup definetely hard water is very hard on many of our first world problems and equipment and plumbing parts ;)
just opened mine and found a hole just as you said. Damn hard water ruined it. Thanks for the informative video , it gave me the courage to open the unit and investigate.
+cameltoehunter You're certainly welcome! :)
Thank you thank you. I have same issue. I have same unit as you do. Thank you once again.
Thank you, thank you! Our water usage bill was twice the usual; Plumber guy found this problem, now have a new valve installed. I'll dissect the old valve and have a look just for kicks. P.S. the humidifier is over 10 years old so I can't gripe too much!
Having similar issue as well but I am getting no water. So.. going to take the solenoid off and get a new one.
Awesome job Eganwp. You were great in explaining everything. Wonderful job indeed. Keep it up my friend !!!
Thank you for the informative video. I had ordered a new solenoid and it could have filled a fire truck, water was running all over the place. I ended up watching your video and taking mine apart and cleaning it, works great. I do wonder where you found a replacement. Exact matches online are $60 to $120. Shit for that much I can do like your buddy and just go buy a new unit.
We live in a high water pressure community, as well. The first sign our whole-house pressure regulator had failed was the continuous stream of water from our Honeywell humidifier.
Related to valve, but not opening. My solonoid works when valve body off, but doesn't when put together.
What resistance ohms does your electromagnet have?
Thanks for this awesome video
Does anyone suggest only opening the feed shut off water valve a quarter turn? We have 1” water feed into the house and thus pressure is high. The sprayer in the humidifier pad feed sprays all over and leaks thru cover. Cleaned everything out for calcium deposits and changed pad but still happens. Thoughts?
Thanks. In red deer, not a Honeywell, but thinking might be same issue.
Thanks from Edmonton.
Thanks a lot for sharing. Learned a lot from your video and experience.
yup same problem here, too. Honeywell...they need to pick up on this.
where did you order your part, my one i just open same problem as yours the hole is broken so water is keep flowing. would you tell me here in reply where to find that part and ?
Thank you for posting this vid! I'm in a hard water zone as well, I guess I will need to install a R/O filter to this humidifier before I install it.Just doing some research on common issues before I buy this thing.
At 19:19 you were trying to screw the "wrong" end of the short pipe into to valve body. "Orfise" end of pipe towards valve body.

Good vedio.
same issue here in Calgary thanks
Mine won't stop running... time to take it apart. Thx for the video.
No horizontal filming?
Awesome video
is it possible to change only the black tube that's coming out of the solenoid valve? (mine has a little break in the tube) thank you
Thanks dude! it's a really use full information . Thanks again
check your water pressure, if its more than 80psi, get a water reducer and set it between 40to60psi
How did you change the tubing? Mine is clogged and I don’t know how to take it off. Did you just pull off from the April air unit from the outside? Or do you need to go inside the air unit itself and Take out the black part that the tube is attached to?
great video
Thanks for your video. My Honeywell HE360 humidifier short cycles on-off about 4-5 times once the furnace shuts off after reaching the desired temperature. After short cycling 4-5 times the Humidifier shuts off as it should. The unit seems to work just fine except for the short cycling issue. Talked to tech support at Honeywell, but they were not able to definitely resolve the issue. Is the problem related to an electrical issue with the solenoid or more related to what was presented in the video here? Or could I have the wrong settings on the humidistat? Or....? Anybody know? Thanks in advance!
I am not sure how fast the water is supposed to flow, is there a rate for water,
how did you crack the solenoid valve open and unscrew it. I cant seem to get mine open
I have the opposite problem,,, no water is getting through the solenoid
+QuM3 You could get your problem solved most likely the same way. A solenoid can get stuck in the open, closed, or partly open or closed (depending if you are a glass-half-full/empty person) position. Replacing the whole thing would resolve, and opening it up would help you find the problem, then you'd have to fix it in a similar way to egan.
nice video man I learned a lot¡ thanks
My HE 260A valve hasn't shut off since I installed it 1 week ago.
Just thought I would add something to this - trying to find a stockist of replacement solenoid valves in Canada is difficult but I managed to buy a suitable replacement here.

The solenoid connection is not quite the same but you can fix that will a bot of soldering or simply swap the existing solenoid assembly from your old valve.
I have a problem with no water flow. When furnace turns on I hear a click, so seems like magnetic mechanism gets a power and possible one of the orifices got plugged. I have found a new 24V (same as mine) inexpensive solenoid and the only difference is that my original is 7 Watts and a new one is 10 Watts. Does anyone know if this is a big deal?
I have the same humidifier.
1. Water runs constant even if furnace is off.
2. If I unplug either wire to silonoide the water turns off.
3. If I turn humidifier off the water stops.
Is this the same problem you had?
PLEASE Help!
the air switch isn't working right,, its probably stuck in the on position
Hi, Live in Calgary too, where did you order a new solenoid valve?
tried one place they dont sell them separately asking for $150 labour and $130 for parts.
thanks
bobsexy2001 Sorry for the late reply. Just search eBay for “KIP 24v solenoid valve”. You just need one that looks similar and works on 24V, and orface is preferable to be 1/16”-5/32”.
ebay
Why is the video shot vertically and not full screen for a laptop or TV?
mvfiscus It’s not... if you had actually watched the video you’d realize I shot the first couple mins vertically to show the whole furnace in the shot... The rest of the video was shot in landscape.
On inplix page are instructions if you want to learn how to build it yourself just take them
So Canadian. Lots of apologies and blah, blah, blah. I love Canadians.
I have the same issue, mine is only 2 years old. Ridiculous.
J'aimerais en avoir en français

Jesus Christ tell me another story. The repair was to buy a new one. Actually what the problem is… what the problem is.. what the problem is.. 1 hour later. I need a new one.
video helps. thanks.. but much too long -- we want to get it fixed first. Should have taken 2-3 minutes. #1- plan what you are going to do before making the video. taking the pieces apart first using and or marking all new parts so you can do it quickly and efficiently showing the repair first, A-B-C, 1-2-3. LAST.. all other things pertaining to other issues and problems. haha
#2 - make video.
Simon Sez Are you only the critic or you really have done well planned videos
Talks too much.
Honeywell sells overpriced crap
