This is one of the sweetest, most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The American electric-psychedelic Khmer-Rock revival band Dengue Fever does a great cover of this song under the title "Tip My Canoe"- like a lot of Cambodian songs, this one has such a powerful beat that's just asking to be syncopated, to be opened up, thereby transforming it into rock n' roll. Can anyone post a translation for the lyrics of this song? I would be forever grateful.
They're talking about their boats passing by eachother, and they meet. The girls says if the guys boat starts to tip she will save him only if he agrees to make her his first wife. Im sorry dont get mad at me if im worng Im kinda fob at khmer too, but i love this song.
The male singer is Sin Sisamouth, the female is Ros Sereisothea. The king and queen of Khmer pop music before the Khmer rouge. This song sounded like it had new instrumental soundtrack inserted into the original vocals.
oh man, Sisamouth is the best. Man how many sound can he make with his voice. I was talking to my dad and he told me he can make 9 different singing voices. In this one, he sounds like he's in his 20s my dad told me who's around late 40s when making this song.
I wouldn't be surprised if the composer is Sinn Sisamouth, possibly with some contribution from the sublime Ros Sereysothea. (But I may very much be mistaken.)
Well, the genocide had taught khmer a lesson, but wt a shame is that i've heard that Thai had filmed a video about that genocide in S-21 and somewhere in the forest, then tried to released to the public as theirs around 2004 or 2005, can't remember. Now not only the Angkor Wat that they tried to cliam but also everything that belong to us such as the pottery, wooden wheel, and many other stuffs.
Sosdey bonjour à tous les cambodgiens, vous êtes des gens magnifiques. Restez auprès de Bouddha. Dhammakaya !

You know what... I think Cambodian music is more like reggae. I think Sin Sinamouth was the precursor, not Robert Nesta Marley... Don't you think?
@MegaMoFUnk nah, I haven't heard the dengue fever version, I'll try to look for it on youtube.
They died during the reign of the Khmer Rouge which came to power in cambodia in 75.
