I thought that was an original song by Confederate Railroad, only to find out just now that Jerry Jeff Walker sang it on this show back in 1990! Way to go! Wish he was still alive.
I met Jerry Jeff about 1972 near Boston. He was so cordial. Who'd of thought a New York mountain man would tumble over the cusp of cowboy country. A kind hearted gentleman.
When i was first given Live at Greune Hall, I played it incessantly. for 3 years i listened to nothing but JJW, and he is never far from my go to list. And this song was close to end of tape, and I thought Jerry Jeff was getting drunk as the night progressed. But seeing this, it is just as raunchy, loud and wild. And I don't think Jerry Jeff even drank at this point. Thanks Jerry Jeff. I'm glad you didn't suffer too long, and are in the presence of God right now.
@@foobarmaximus3506 To me, that is the only time I will sin the sin of envy. That sounds wonderful! Of course to me, he was larger than life. But in Texas like you said, it was just a great part of growing up!

stumbled across this video & got to watch my ol' friend play lead. Sadly Gary Walker died several years ago in an accident on a ranch in Wyoming. Heckuva musician.
This rocks!!! Beats the hell out of Confederate RR. They turned it into bubble gum. That's Jerrys son playing lead. Bass player looks like Warren Zevon. Used to watch this program every week and had a lot of it on VHS.
That's subjective. They're both great in their own right (and Confederate Railroad's music video is what really raised this song to a new level and brought attention to it that it never would have received otherwise). And no this is not the original. The original was done by its writer Chris Wall. Jerry heard it being played live at a bar in WY and asked if they could show him how to play it. He then recorded his version which was the first version put down on an official record label. But that doesn't make his version any more "original" than Confederate Railroad's version. Neither does it make his version more or less awesome than the version he heard or Confederate Railroad's or his own or anybody else's various live versions. It's just a great song at its very core and it's one that can be altered and played differently live by many bands (and by the same bands in different versions) and it never fails.
how is lyold maines doing that electric guitar solo on his steel that is just awesome and i love it. he had a way to do that and i would like to know how he has to have a pickup on the steel or a electric pedal or something because i have heard steel guitars and they dont just sound like that that is awesome though
LLoyd is Natalie Maynes father [lead singer for The Dixie Chicks] and played with Joe Ely for a long time-i saw him in the early '90's with Terry Allen-he was as nice a guy as you could find.Check out the older Joe Ely albums.

I am so sad right now. I loved Jerry Jeff Walker

And written by Chris Wall who does a good job singing it as well.
I met Jerry Jeff about 1972 near Boston. He was so cordial. Who'd of thought a New York mountain man would tumble over the cusp of cowboy country. A kind hearted gentleman.
Lloyd Maines plays an awesome Pedal Steel. Blows my mind. Have a great year ya'll.
Natalie's daddy (from the Chicks)

I would kill for a proper high quality version of this performance.

is Gary Walker , Jerry Jeff’s brother ?!
Sorry to hear that but grateful for good talent he blessed us with
Hey, Gary's my uncle! Came to watch him, too.
@@tweeds2140 It was the perfect lead too.
I'm not a big country music fan, but I like this.
I made the mistake of telling the woman I was seeing that this song made me think of her.
😂😂😂😂
😂😂❤
She had to know you were in love with her. You could always tell her she makes you crazy in the head, sometimes that works.
You too? Been 12 yrs since the divorce. 😢Never looked back 😅
That's a crusade only for the brave.👍😪
Hey Jerry Jeff, you are taking me back.
Damn Great Version! I REALLY DUG the pedal steel near the end! Happy 71st Birthday, jerry Jeff Walker!!
Lloyd Maines on the pedal steel
Love me some Jerry Jeff!
They both have their good points. The original has a more driving feel to it, but CR definitely did the song justice with their version.
JJW - So many good times.

Saw Lloyd and Terri Hendrix play at a workshop at Old #9 years back...MAN THEY CAN PLAY!!!
I know for a fact Lloyd used an old Jordan Electronics "Boss Tone" distortion/fuzz box with his rig. I'd bet that's how he got that tone.
Damn, that was smokin'.

PERHAPS this song would not have been politically incorrect in Neandertholic times.
Jerry Jeffs son DJANGO....would have been about 12 or 13 when this was done...he has two kids. Django and Jessie Jane
Django is 6 ' 8", big dude. He was singing with his group at Newport, and he joined John Prine, Roger Waters in the final festival song
@rockwinkle51 Bob Livingston on bass

Where can I buy this song?
It's not "a little" it's "a tad".
Confederate Railroad did it,and sang it a "little"-sucked IMHO.
Confederate who? What? huh? This is a JJW song, anything less is, well, less....

Bob Livingston is great on the bass, but his background vocals are over the top.
Lol the vocals aren't horrible but his antics are. We aren't looking at you bro, stop making goofy faces.
Now, why throw the good things away?
JJW!!!
