Check out cavyfishing.com/ for fishing lures and much more! Heading out to a new island off the California coast line to try my luck at catching a new species of fish
That first fish you caught was a calico bass! They are very aggressive around the kelp beds where you are fishing. They are good eating as well. The best way to fish that area is from a boat, casting into the kelp. Any orange fish that you catch in that area are protected! They are called Garibaldi‘s. They are the state fish of California. You catch one and you got a hefty fine if you get caught with it. I’d be fishing with artificial squid or with a gummy squid on lead head
You were in my city! Newport beach. You were at the world famous wedge. I used to go body board those waves after school every day. Orange county was honored to have you cav dog
Indeed. My town I grew up in. Some great fishing in the bay for spotted sand bass. They are just like the kelp bass you caught except fight even harder. Still one of my favorite fisheries. I try to hit it up anytime I’m home to visit.
CAVY IS HERE!!! Welcome to California! The home of Calico Bass (your first fish), White Sea Bass, Black Sea Bass, Yellowtail, Blue Fin Tuna, etc. Happy to see you here.
I’m California raised but now live in Missouri, but I would be fully willing to fly out there for a chance to fish with you Cavy. The fact that you’re in California right now is freaking amazing. Can’t get enough of your videos please please keep them coming absolutely come back to the US as much as possible, maybe my dream will become reality someday.
Welcome to SoCal Cavy! Your passion for fishing is infectious!! Huge respect for your C.P.R. (Catch, Photograph, Release). Your videos are incredible!! Keep up the great work! Make sure to go bluefin tuna fishing before you leave SoCal. Tight Lines!!
So glad you came out to my hometown in California and fished here. I’ve been fishing here for over 20 years I’m glad you were able to experience some of it. The best is our giant bluefin tuna fisherie, we get em on big stick baits and topwaters just like you guys do for GT. They are one of the hardest fighting fish in the ocean alongside the GT and dogtooth.
Cavy, absolute delight in following you on your fishing adventures. I envy you all the different species you have managed to hook up on. Keep them coming ❤🎣🏝️
Maaaan I’ve been waiting for this for so long! Seeing your land based fishing in Aus would make me so jealous I’m glad you got a taste of what it’s like here! 🤙🏼🤙🏼
Those Calico Bass make great Ceviche. Caught a bunch on a charter boat out of San Diego last year. Great to see you over here. The wedge is fun to body surf.
My good man. I say several magic words at this time of year: Catalina. Live bait. Freeline. Kelp garden. Yellow tail. Chaos. Possible Mako. Burnt fingers. God I miss it!
Hey Cavy! Thanks for coming to So cal! Sorry you couldn’t catch any big fishes but hope you can come back and catch some yellow fins off the coast of Catalina!
Nice going on that Bonita. One of the biggest I've seen! I've been fishing the backside of Catalina a few times. The seals will shut off the bite. They follow the boats. When that happens the fish just hug the bottom until the boats/seals go away.
Great stuff cavy! Sick little spot mate. Keep up the good work, loving the US content, it’s super interesting! You should do some largemouth bass fishing if your still there too.
Great vid Cavy. You are in my hometown I grew up in. Lived on the beach near the Wedge where the surfing was. Also fished and dove those islands my whole life. Big white shark zone you were in out at the islands. If you continue the fishing on the coast you need to go up the coast near Big Sur, fish for California Ling Cod. You will be blown away by that species.
Yo Cavy🤙🏼🤙🏼welcome to Southern California USA🇺🇸awesome to have you here brother! Those are my fishing grounds too - Catalina Island and Newport Beach! Yeeew! Tight lines!
Cavdog, you have probably done more fishing in your life than I have mine. However, I would recommend when you’re missing strikes on fish you think you should be hooking, tighten your drag. If your drag is not tight when you set the hook you will hook less fish, in my opinion. Cheers mate, love you videos, welcome to America. 👍
5:32 Calico Bass/Kelp Bass. Very popular gamefish in Southern California and Baja. In the Paralabrax genus which the spotted and Barred sand bass are also on. All 3 are very similar species which are very common catches from LA county down to Baja
You're in my neck of the woods Bruh. Yeww 🤙🏻 First fish was a Calico Bass aka Checkerboard and of course your Bonito. Catalina is also know for Sheepshead, lingcod, big yellowtails and the elusive White Seabass 🤙🏻
Cavy I have a strong feeling you would enjoy fishing Sunset cliffs Ocean Beach and La Jolla Cove in San Diego. Your channel is amazing and wholesome bro Keep up the great work!
Don't know what kind of fish that was either. I'm a Florida fish guy. Caught one yesterday in a vid and have no clue what mine was either. Always good vids from you mate. 👍😎
Yay, Cavy!! Are you going to make your way to the US east coast after Canada? Would love to see you over here getting some Stripers! And then down the coast for the Red Fish (red drum) and sea trout (speckled trout) and then all the way down the keys for snook and yellow tails and all the snappers!
Mate I’m hoping so!! After a shocking Mexico trip and not so good SoCal trip I need to try the east coast for sure! But also need to start finding my own spots again. Every time I go with someone else or listen to advice where to go it’s always so bad 😂😂😂 So I’m ready to go with my gut again haha
Those fish that you caught off the shore are called Calico Bass. They get much larger than the ones you caught, and they are good eating. The red/orange fish you saw were probably garibaldi, the State Marine fish of California and they are protected. Garibaldi are abundant around Catalini Island.
Cavy was in Dana Point and he didn't even tell me. I'm so upset, I'd have brought my fishing drone and everything... You can see how over fished we are here...
I would have released anyways , but it also mean cannot catch? You can’t choose what you catch sometimes either haha. But I think it’s cool that fish are protected 🤙🏾
@@CavyFishing they are commonly bicatch for the opal eye fisherman. i think technically your sup[posed to de-hook in the water. Definetly cannot keep though
G’day Legend, At 11m45s , what is the metallic structure we can see in the background ? Regarding the fish you asked us to leave a comment about , in my humble experience , I think it is from the grouper family. Buy again, I might be wrong…😂 Thank you once again for the adventures Chris from Crete
Hes alive! You went north to cali didnt you? That looks like my area. Maybe the coronado islands. Or catalina or san clemente. That first fish was a calico bass. That red fish tou saw in the water was a sheep head. The orange ones was the state MARINE fish called garibaldi. Protected
Didnt see the red ones you were talking about but I assume by where they were at that they were Garibaldi, the state fish. No use trying to catch them they are omnivores and a big fine for catching them. Hope you enjoy your time here!
New Port my stomping grounds growing up ,, you'll have more fun then in BAJA shore fishing on the island tons of calico bass and mackerels from shore ,, but for some real action you'll need to fish from the boat ,, Catalina was over fished in the 70s but stricter regulations have made it world class again depending on time of yr ,, white sea bass are the ones ,, wrong time of the yr M8t summer time is when the pelagic's come around bones are yr round u had all the bait should have done some bottom fishing some monster Halibuts to be had
Bro I was born and raised on this island , super cool to see you fish it , I was posting in the comments of past videos saying to fish here. I am really happy to have stumbled on this. I really respect your land based approach to fishing. As an islander , having sport boats and psycho fisherman come and rape your home ground is honestly sickening at this point. Unfortunately California is not like AU , you can’t catch anything big from the rocks generally. The chances are so low from all the overfishing with sport boats , and just the terrain sucks so bad. We don’t have those beautiful rock ledges that get deep water.
Hey man! Yeah naturally it’s a beautiful island! I wanted to fish the other open side but the boat dudes said was too rough… but the rough side had the huge halibut!!! From shore would have been amazing!
@@CavyFishing come to the north woods of Wisconsin in the states, there are plenty of guys who can put you on a musky, they hit massive topwater lures. I got a 42" already this year

Yeah raping the island. Soon there won’t be anything left lol.
You can google map this spot and see atleast 20 boats in the vicinity . It’s overkill. Ridiculous
You were in my city! Newport beach. You were at the world famous wedge. I used to go body board those waves after school every day. Orange county was honored to have you cav dog
The wedge was cool to finally see in real life bro. Nice place! Thanks dude

Yeah I was with locals they know exactly where can and can’t fish brother

Welcome to the USA! I spent some of the best years of my life in California. It's a beautiful coastline.
Calico bass was that first fish and the main fish out their you catch just got my personal best calico their last week at 7.5lbs
Those boats were just stunned to see a guy fishing by himself on Catalina haha it’s quite rare to see that

Cavy the Orange fish you see are Garibaldi's the state fish of Cali. The more you know.
Welcome to Cali!
What is that soft bait your using
Great to follow your adventures
your 1st and 2nd catches were small calico bass.
Whenever you are using hookup baits you got to let them eat it for 3 seconds or you will miss more than half the bites
Didnt see the red ones you were talking about but I assume by where they were at that they were Garibaldi, the state fish. No use trying to catch them they are omnivores and a big fine for catching them. Hope you enjoy your time here!
Well good thing I didn’t get one then hahaha and makes sense as to why they flat out ignored the lures
The water color makes me think you were on the back side of the island, Little Harbor?
Why the boat kept following you Cavy?
I’m not sure just the way it is! But I couldn’t go the other way because was blocked by construction ahhh well
Holy the intro made it seem like I was about to watch an Ants Canada video lmfao
Hahaha
OMG ur so close I can almost c u!!!! Welcome to cali!!
First time in California! In LA now :)
@CavyFishing aww. I hope u have a great time. Love ur vids..keep em coming
You should try the SMR brand bait from Indonesia Cavy
Welcome to Cali!! Yew!!
Thanks bro, like time coming 🤙🏾
Dope video bro, where do you get that clay like stuff you put on your face to protect you from the sun?
The Wedge! I’m in Laguna Hills! Would loved to watch you fish in real time!!
love your videos bro
Sick video! How ya liking cali?
I think those first couple fish were a type of bass
Why did you throw that Atlantic bonito back!! That is excellent eating!! Bonito ceviche is my favorite!!
Because we already catch several to keep 😊🔥
I hope you enjoyed the region bro!

almost tipped over a golf cart last time I was on Catalina.
Welcome to socal fishing cavy
