I kinda wish that the Mega Man games on NES were still cheap like they were years ago, now they all go for 30 - 100 bucks, so I just decided to buy Mega Man 2 (because it's my favourite Mega Man) and I bought the Anniversary Collection instead of taking out a loan on the rest of the series.
+Kevin Striker You can thank the fanboy jackasses of AVGN for that. Shelf collectors have ruined game collecting. Give it 10 years and people will not care as much, thus reducing the price of games. It happened with WWF VHSs, comic books, cards, etc.
While very true, you can't blame the collectors, just the "posers". Personally, Mike and James (and my own roommates) prefer playing hard media, but I absolutely 100% prefer software and emulation. None of this invisibility and flickering bullshit (or can be better fixed), save and load states making some "shitty" games entirely playable, and better flexibility with injecting code. A singe video I had time to make for a contest, of Megaman Legends, was exponentially crisper and easier to make, using an emulator and one "TauVertex"s UI-related gameshark-manipulations. He discovered some pretty neat code-manipulations through gameshark.
This is the Mike Matie I grew up on. I feel like this is his best video. I love the semi bad/good quality webcam. When I recommend Mike matie this is the video I would show them. Man… I’m also really drunk. Haha.
You don't want to deinterlace a game like this because, at least on the NES (and almost always on SNES, Genesis, and TG16 as well), it's not 480i30, but 240p60. So yeah, capture cards might treat it as interlaced video, but in that case you need to separate the odd and even fields into two fields (running at 60fps), then resize them back to a 4:3 aspect ratio. I can't speak for whatever emulation is being used here, but I'd imagine it's still running at 60 fps, unless it looks that bad on your TV as well.
I would honestly say that this is much better than Megaman 1, for even just one single reason. That the graphics engine doesnt "bug out" as much, items and enemies and projectiles dont disappear randomly as often as in Megaman 1 (and many many other old NES games).
Hey Mike I always enjoy watching your shows :). I like you as much as I like James. I watch AVGN all the time on my iphone, but I also look forward to your play video's and was a bit disappointed when you stopped making those awhile back. Good to see you make a come back with the live streaming. I don't get to see them live but I like watching them either way!
Easiest thing to do against Quickman is to sit there and kill the robot mech riding guys outside the boss room and replenish the flashman thing. As soon as the fight starts, do time stopper and it takes half his energy. Yes, even in the difficult version.
Megaman 2 has the best soundtrack overall but the title music for Megaman 3 is easily the single best song on the NES hands down. There are so many amazing rock covers of it on here. Even one incredible version done with an electric violin.
@Big PP and ppl had done it as a kid i gotta admitt i go into a game blindly and tried to get better at them nad spent hours exploring fraidy the 13th wothput knowing what to do ppl or i seen ppl on youtube do it cygnus destroyer beat dr jeckeland mr hyde and friday the 13th
The thing with invisible sprites might be because the sprite is flashing on and off at 60 frames per second; the video is only 30 frames so sometimes the 'on' part of the flash will be in the frames that aren't captured. Capturing at 60 would fix that.
Also, just capping the game at 30 I believe makes the PC ports (this is steam, right?), display the important assets on rendered frames or something. You're likely right though as to why it happens.
You guys should look at the SEGA Megadrive Classics pack on Steam. Show us your skills. I know you will enjoy streaming these, saves trying to wire shit up to a Megadrive as we call em in the UK. Be cool as i know you James and Ryan would enjoy these together. Im roughly the same age as you guys, and i really get your vibe dudes. You remind me of me and my friends back in the day. I was a SEGA guy and my friends were Nintendo. Blast Processing Vs Super FX wars. Wicked days when the consuumer had so much choice. Im sure theres a few people in here that would agree. Dont matter who you are or where you live in the world, gaming brings people together.
Your cool Mike, have you done Double Dragon 2?, on Old Nintendo also on Supreme Master Double Dragon is a classic :-) :-) this game bring's back way 2 many memories Your Great.
I remember playing this and not knowing what to use except the p blaster for most everything. Maybe that's why I never beat it past a few stops at the castle.
Hey...2 years late...but some good horror movies to watch are... The Void (2017) Harbinger Down (2015) Both are very much like John Carpenters "The Thing" and, The Void is that plus some Hellraiser thrown in for some extra horror. Check 'em out.
+takamaka100 no he said he will tweet it or something, he is busy with either personally life or other projects ,so he does it when he has the time, but i don't think he will be on much today because he has to edit james and mikes Mondays and most likely help on with monster madness, so i'm guessing in the near future there will be a schedule out hopefully but at the moment he is just winging it, it seems
People always start by metalman because metalblade is awesome which is true. But for the maximum efficency you're supposed to go there in last. Flashman is taking good damage out of regular P shooter then Quickman < Bubbleman < Heatman < Woodman < Airman < Crashman < Metalman.
Thanks to you, I decided to take another whack at beating that game and I did it, just now. Hell yeah :D It wasn't even as hard as I remembered, but I almost ran out of bubble.
The Nintendo Classic Mini, is Great but i don't want 2 touch it, because it look's Amazing. I got it on the 10-11-2016, but need another control, so i have 2 controls, so i can play double dragon 2 with my brother:-) :-)..
The stacks of metal cans with the face, those die in 1 shot on normal, instead of scattering towards you. Every boss has more health. The things with the pointy shells on the back don't pop apart, they just die in 1 shot on normal. More things spawn. Those lasers on quickman's level, are almost definitely faster too, I want to say. The invisible blocks on heatman's level are definitely the fuck faster, sweet jebus did you see them?
Having only originally played Mega Man I back in the NES days (I know, shame on me :P ), I'm not *that* up to speed, but is it even possible to play entries other than part 2 on higher difficulties?
how does he get the mega buster to shoot so fast? was it because it was the legacy collection version? it looked like it was on a turbo setting. I don't remember you being able to just hold down the B button on the old NES controller to shoot. I think you had to keep tapping it
The oldest Games I've Beaten On Stream entry stream in his blog list from August 2015 (unless he notices me posting his Castle Of Illusion stream link in his current videos so that he puts an entry on it on his list too). I wonder if Mike played Contra or Castlevania during that time if he would have also played them via the Contra or Castlevania Collection instead of on the original console? Just kidding, the set-up probably was not yet there. Should definitely play these Mega Man games again sometime soon.
I think P stands for Pistol Mike. Look at the covers for Mega Man and Mega Man 2. Mega Man has a gun in his hand. It changes to a canon on the Mega Man 3 cover.

Mike's best quote of this stream: "I need a little more number 2." If only James were there to comment on that request.

Mike's doing livestreams now? Sweet, I'll be looking forward to these.
1:21:03 My question got read. I watched the 10th anniversary special right after the stream. It was hilarious.
Snake Man's theme is my personal favorite music from the Mega Man series, so good.
Yo Mike this stream is now a CLASSIC!

I believe NES is 256p60. The resolution is 256x256, but the bottom 16px might be missing in either the NTSC or PAL rendering.
The difficult mode is the japanese difficulty and the normal mode is the USA version. The european version had the selector.
Japanese (Rockman 2): Difficult only
US and EU: Normal and difficult (In normal mode every enemy has half health)
I would honestly say that this is much better than Megaman 1, for even just one single reason.
That the graphics engine doesnt "bug out" as much, items and enemies and projectiles dont disappear randomly as often as in Megaman 1 (and many many other old NES games).
We can only hope Mighty Number 9 improves as much in it's sequel (which don't get me wrong, I hope they make).

Newer horror movies to watch are the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies. :p
This was on my birthday!
You lose all your accumulated E tanks if you get a game over.

I like how in bad games, something unbalanced makes it even worse, but in good games, it makes it better (Metal Blade)
id love to see a live stream of Friday the 13th!
+KratosHero
Mike doesn`t like that game...

Very good Swedish horror movie: Let the Right One In (2008)
Hard is actually normal difficulty in Japan. It's the only difficulty setting. Wily Wars kept it faithful to the Japanese version.
I wonder if the trick works in the cut scenes before you go to the level were you can change the stars in to birds on this version of the game?
Your cool Mike, have you done Double Dragon 2?, on Old Nintendo also on Supreme Master Double Dragon is a classic :-) :-) this game bring's back way 2 many memories Your Great.
I just beat ninja gaiden and the final level and bosses are hard as hell. Tks for your videos
I'm so used to doing my jumps from the very edge that if I see someone jump earlier, I wince expecting them to fall.
Hey Mike, your MM streams are the best! Any plans for the MMX series?
I know before Mike said this came out in 1988. It did in Japan but in North America it came out in July of 1989.
I remember playing this and not knowing what to use except the p blaster for most everything. Maybe that's why I never beat it past a few stops at the castle.
House of the devil is a pretty recent good horror movie
Unirally (Uniracer) had some pretty kick ass music. It worked really well with the fast pace of the races.
Hey...2 years late...but some good horror movies to watch are...

do u have a schedule when you are streaming? because i would really like to watch you live mike :)

THAT WAS YOU!?? I FUCKING LOVE THAT PICTURE!! YOU DID REALLY WELL!!!
sorry for shouting...
FFVI is also my favorite and probably the best soundtrack super Nintendo EVER had.
Air works better on quick man in normal mode
Megaman Powered Up on PSP is also a fun Megaman game.
I wonder if the guys will ever play any of the Kaizo Mario games.
No it's not. But there's some variation on it. But for having replay it recently I can assure you this is a good way to do it.
The Soundtrack to wood mans stage scares my cat

what's the difference between the normal difficulty and hard difficulty aside from just taking more damage

Matthew Keenan I just got it last week on xbox1...there is a turbo button that fires 3 at a time, along with the standard

He left at the perfect time for us to listen to 110 000 000 Memories XD
Masterful playing on the Quick man boss kill. Wow.
Here's a few more suggestions for horror/thriller movies...
The Loved Ones
Asylym Blackout
13 Sins
American Mary
I think P stands for Pistol Mike. Look at the covers for Mega Man and Mega Man 2. Mega Man has a gun in his hand. It changes to a canon on the Mega Man 3 cover.
A good music recommendation: "All Together Now"- Legacy of the Wizard.
That music... Great stream as usual.
Have you seen the Korean Ring? It's called The Ring: Virus.
Something is different about how Mike sounds back then compared to 2022 🤔
You beat all the mega man games on hard? I thought only mm2 had the choice for normal or hard mode. lol
i like all the mega man games i am not sure pick up group huh i wonder if there is an option to change difficulty on the other mega man games
to beat wood man, use heat, it's more effective than metal
I think everyone like Megaman 2 the most
Because by then it was a team that had their stride down perfectly
Mega man 1 to me Felt like a team still that was getting used to things

Burai Fighter NES music is sooo good! Listen to it Mike.
My favorite sound track to the game is Dr. W stages 1 and 2
Mike, do you have any concept how likeable you are? You should have a talk show.
I love you guys, but Mike, you gotta get Bootsie to finish the Battletoads series...I'm dying here!
I just love Wily's Castle theme.
I vaguely remember heat being better for wood man than metal. Is this true?
Late Night with Mike Matei
It's funny how we used to call lives "guys" or "men"
why sometimes the character go invisible ?
I can explain that.
the NES is a pretty cheap machine that can't handle too many sprites at the same time.
so, to resolve that, the NES makes some sprites invisible 1/2 frames, generally making them twinkle.
and when you transform a 60fps signal to a 30fps signal, you exactly lose 1/2 frames.
so sometimes, a character can seem to disappear completely, because the frames that are lost are the ones in which the sprites appear, and the ones who are not lost are the ones in which the sprites don't appear.
the only way to fix that is to make 60fps videos to have every frames, including the ones with the sprites.
the same things happen for a lot of machines like the game boy, the megadrive, etc...
It's only when you watch on RUclips that it does that. Unless there are a lot of on screen sprites but the nes was from the 80s
mightypenguin100
that's not a question of youtube, that's a question of encoding video.

mike, did you watch "lords of salem" by rob zombie?
it's not a good horror movie but a weird one ;-)
also "sinister", "V/H/S" and "REC" are pretty nice.
(oh, you watched VHS)
i atleast got to dr wileys levels on difficult mode but btw mike youmentioned what is good nes music solstice nes had some pretty good music
its a loot of static noices in the backround.
Minute 52:51, Proud a ya! :-D
I would like to see you play some Tony Hawks 1, 2 or 3.
in heatman stage you could have just used crash on some parts of the walls. wouldn't have had to care about timing too much.
I'm pretty sure the P stands for Proton Cannon
It doesn't become a proton cannon till the later on Megaman series when he charge up his cannon
Is just that "regular person" sounds kinda odd
+Daniel Figueiras López I've always thought It was Plasma Cannon.
Serpentsword Studios plasma cannon sounds even more acurate
I think it would give the Mega Man games a whole different atmosphere if you replaced its soundtrack with the one from METROID :)

WATCH OUT FOR THE SPIKES!
Awesome Mike! Good shit!
If you steram in 60 FPS the sprites won't disappear.
1:04:00 i hate Mike's excuses by this point. That is not in anyway "one of the most tricky parts of the game." His reflexes are just awful.
Well, it's Saturday night! Time to watch an 8 year old stream of Mike playing a 40 year old game. 😂
Yeah the evil, dead was kinda of crazy
That Flashman fight was hard to watch. Only use p on him. He is the easyest.
mike your really good a this game. I struggle greatly on the crash bomb stage in wileys castle, very difficult
they say this is the easy mega man game but i feel that 3 is far easier
Mike, are you excited for Fallout 4 and Rock Band 4 at all?

During flash man, through those lasers, use slide.
i don't know why he doesn't switch to metal blades for the stages also, instead of using the mega buster
syxx573 because metal blades are for worthless noobs. He said he likes challenge. Very few muricans do..
