- C stands can make great stable stands for your lights with a very small footprint, but that’s not all the C-Stand is good for. In this video, Daniel shows you how a C-Stand is a versatile tool for all types of mounting, grip, lights and so much more.

C-stands are amazing! I use them all over the house for things like coat racks and hanging out laundry to dry!
Ya know I love me some C-Stands. Grip literally goes on forever and it’s important to learn as much as you can if for nothing else but safety
Excellent presentation Daniel Norton, man how fortunate we are to live in times where we have access and can learn so much through videos like these!
C-Stands and Beefy Baby Stands are great, I will have to a Magic Finger to my grip gear. Great demo, model and photographer. Thanks Daniel and Marisa 😎👍🇨🇦
I’ve been following your videos for 7 years if not more. I’d love (many of us would like) to know more about you Daniel. Outside of photography it’d be nice to know what else you do and enjoy in life. Who is this Daniel Dude?🤔🤷🏼♂️
He's such a great instructor. Genuine dude.
1) Marisa... 👍
2) It is good to do these sort of videos (for us and Adorama) because there have been many a time when I saw something in a video and made that infamous mental note to get it for what it does... and... time passes... and the memory is preoccupied recalling other stuff... and so on. Thank you.
Thanks Daniel and Marissa. A very good demonstration of C stands, and some great shots of Marissa.
Great video, Dan. Thank you and Happy New Year! Re: taping boards to the support, wide blue painter's tape is my friend for that. The width gives it good hold and, if you're not to rough when you're taking it apart, doesn't tear up the back side of the board.
Dynamic Duo smashes it again.
Versatile is right! Always appreciate the safety tips you give concerning this heavy equipment! Thank you.
Thank you Mr Daniel, great presentation as always.
Thank you so much for this video! Kept getting better and better!❤
This was so useful for me as I have just bought my first c stand and you and Seth are the only ones that show all this information. Thank you
Thanks, Daniel & Marisa! Time to load up my wishlist on Adorama!
Thanks! Excellent tutorial on c-stands
Very helpful, thank you. Lovely model.
Thanks for that explanation. These are great for people like me. I inherited some equipment and still don't know what some of it is for. And as always Marissa is a great model!
Very informative
Thank you Danial and Lovely Miresa
Great video Daniel. May I request a video about how to use coloured gels in our existing strobes and softboxes, I mean in terms of how you would place a piece of gel within the soft box? I have a couple of octa boxes and an assortment of ‘small’ (3 inches by 3 inches) coloured gels, but not sure how to use them eg, do I just poke them inside the octa box, close to the strobe bulb? Grateful for your advice please. 👍🏻🙏🏻
Great tutorial.
I love that woman's energy! It's the good kind of infectious!
You do excellent tutorials and I'm certain I'm not the only frequent visitor who has become totally smitten by your beautiful protege/model.
Thank You!
Hello Daniel and Marissa, another helpful video. Thank you so very much. I notice you are always changing your light settings. Do you have a video for changing flash settings for two lights? I’m using a Godox AD200 Pro and Canon 270EXII speedlite. Any advice would be really helpful. Thank you and enjoy a great and wonderful day.
Great video!
Just bought my first one!
Check out flat aluminum frames (blade frame). I find those with some binder clips to be a dream for clipping gels or diffusion to. The round steel frames are nice for pre-skinned frames but for open frames, blade frames are the way to go IMO
Wow. I guess I always take for granted that I worked on films as well as took pictures. One of my favorite pieces of gear is magliners. Not sure if you use them. Gear carts are essential on bigger jobs.
Thanks for posting this info on the c-stand and all the gizmos that go with it. I do have a question about the back drop, love the colour, is it by Savage, and if so which one is it? Gulf blue, blue jay etc.
Thanks
Amazing video! I have a doubt. What is the difference between pin 5/8 and E650? Can I put my flashes on both?
Which stands would you recommend for being able to set up a 10 foot backdrop on location?
Would like to know which color is that Savage backdrop pls 🙂
"Magic finger": are there any other expressions or descriptions for it, since I couldn't find it in Germany (Amazon, eBay, as Adorama isn't an option here).
Daniel what Is the name of the system your blue paper is on? It goes floor to ceiling, right?! Also thanks for the info regarding C-stands. Helpful!
What focal length lens are you using here?
I want a portable C stand. Gosh Marissa has beautiful eyessssssssss
Muppet Daniel is rocking a Beastie Boys shirt! Nice!
Super, thanks Dave & Marissa. Always learning more from you guys.
Dave?
I only have one because they’re so expensive, but I’d like to get more. I think it’ll outlive me by 500 years or so.
I just picked up another off-brand stand with a rocky mountain leg, full size with arm, for $95 from the Amazon Warehouse.
Do you have links to all the gear you were referring to?
All the gear is listed and linked in the description
No one teaches this shit anymore, it's very helpful. Thanks.
Very informative . Thanks Daniel . Can you make video on different trigger systems you use in outdoor?
Flash triggering systems?
@@DanielNortonPhotographer yes if you can
@@DanielNortonPhotographer specifically in outdoor env where triggers don’t work that reliably
Now I C what these are for....
Who looked at Daniel from 13.33 till 14.33 ?
Magic finger costs more than a brand-new C-stand. Think I will do without
it looks like you have a dead pixel on your A cam
My experience for about 3 decades plus has proven to me that C-stands are grossly overrated except in cases such as using different risers with the turtle base. That simple use is quite convenient. But, legs like the turtle are a major pain to store, transport and it's heavy. I've found standard three leg stands are the most convenient, easiest to store and are a lot lighter. But, as you illustrate a turtle base cane be very useful, although a very simple, super compact folding Manfrotto style background stand is even better IMHO.
cool, thanks for sharing, I'd love to see your video on how you rig what I did here with a standard light stand.
Puppet +1
Light stand? That's the LAST thing you would use a C stand for.
