My OCD peaked just as I was starting to realize my dreams. Some of us do not have the resources for specialized care and have just been hanging on, hoping for some kind, any kind, of positive change. My last therapist had to Google ERP. I do not believe that I'm alone in my experience, I desperately want a treatment plan tailored to ocd but it is not available. God this hurts so bad sometimes. edit: ERT !=ERP 10/27/22 Wanted to add some quick info-- Most therapists are NOT equipped to deal with the nature of intrusive thoughts and this is important for those of us who are Non-Ritualized Spikers/ Pure Obsessives. Some themes of OCD carry with them unwanted thoughts that are beyond disturbing. When I took a chance and let my therapist in (absolutely unknowledgeable re: symptoms of OCD yet thoroughly credentialed), the color had drained from her face and she said that my Dr needed to reconsider my diagnosis. What I expressed to her was a "vanilla" obsession in terms of content, something that we deal with DAILY. Well, I did not know that and using her response as a guage, every fear that was this broken, terrible, unredeemable person became valid. I swear to all that's holy that I'm astounded that I lived through that. The point at which I am trying to arrive but failing lol: some therapists can cause more harm if they are untrained. It has been years and I'm still affected by that awful session.
So sorry to read this mate. It is horrible that we do not all have these resources available to us. Although it is not the same as therapy, there are OCD resources you can find online (whether on different websites or even youtube too) that I’m sure will be able to provide you with some assistance in managing your symptoms. For example there is a really good RUclips channel called ‘OCD and Anxiety’ that is run by a legitimate therapist that specializes in OCD and that has tons of videos with great information. I pray you found some solutions to your situation since you left this comment but if not I hope this helps you out in some way. One last thing, there’s a great clip I saw of this guy, Mike Majlak, talking about mental illness and addiction and his quote changed my opinion on my own issues in a major way. He said this: “if you’ve made it through addiction or mental illness, you have something. Cause a lot of people don’t. If you are still kicking today, battling those demons, you have something. Cause a lot of people didn’t wake up today cause they couldn’t make it. They couldn’t cut it. And you fucking did. So you have something.” Never forget that mate. Never underestimate your strength. I guarantee you are so much stronger than you realize. As harsh as it may sound, OCD can never truly stop you from getting those dreams you mentioned. Only you can stop you. Yes it will be harder than it would be for someone without these issues, but on the other hand I’d wager that there is every chance that we are mentally stronger than the majority of people without these issues. So just keep going. You got it. God bless my friend and I pray this is useful for you in some sense. 💪👑
The world should pay attention on OCD foundation. OCD is the worst evil in the world of mental health.
Save our humanities from this vicious illness.
