This is more than just a legendary pop anthem. This is a defining moment in our lives. This is... the friends and the lovers we lost. This is the dreams we had. This is the youth that slipped our hands. This is the Pet Shop Boys and we are very lucky to have them in our life.
"Behaviour" was the first adult music album I ever had. I bought a cassette tape and would listen to it non-stop on my Walkman. I was 13 years old at the time. I remember these songs accompanying me, especially in the backseat of my parents' car. I didn't understand much of the lyrics back then, but the rhythm enchanted me. And "Being Boring" instantly became my favorite pop song. It remains in that place until today. Nowadays, I can also grasp the depth of the lyrics. It's always a great experience to listen to the music (and also watch the music video). Thank you PSB for that! :)❤
I was 25 in 1990 when this song came out and when I came out of the closet. It was such an exciting and yet terrifying time. I am pushing 60 now, and I still cry like a baby for all the friends who are missing from that time whenever I hear this anthem. 😥😥😥😥😥😥
I was 10 and this song was sound track of a Brazilian soap opera called Meu Bem, Meu Mal (literally, My Good, My Evil) and this and others 2 tracks made me ask to my mother to by the long play (LP) of the international sound track
I was 14 when this was released. I had this on cassette. I loved this album. It was 1990. The future seemed so bright and full of opportunity. It really was the peak of our civilization. The 1990s were it. The culmination of the 1900s. It was all boiled down to that final decade. Everything was there. Rock, rap, hippies, goth, metal. Freedom, the end of communism, liberalism, the opening of the world to travelling en masse. It really was the best. And we completely fucked it up. We had it in the palm of our hands and let it slip away. We need to find that again. Peace yall. Never stop dancing, especially if you are 14.
This song is an elegy to youth, love and life, the closest a pop song can come to philosophy, a timeless pop masterpiece.

Neil Tennant & Chris Lowe achieved something very rare in a song: Turn an optimistic sound into a very sad lyric content. "Being Boring" is timeless and magníficent.
This song is: - Pop perfection - Songwriting perfection - A feeling, a mood, a moment, a lifetime - History - Amazing And the video is also a masterpiece.
Strange, this beautiful song reminds me of very special people I have lost, but stirs up memories full of joy remembering the fun we had--never being boring. Instead of sadness, these great memories bring me solace. Till we meet again my departed friends. ❤❤❤
I think Being Boring is the best song ever written. Not saying by the Pet Shop Boys, but by anyone. Still to this day it is my favorite song of all time. Such a classic.
Yes, exactly. It's relatable for everyone in that scene and particular moment in time but it's also relatable to everyone who has a beating heart. A true masterpiece.
One of my favourite songs of all time for bittersweet reasons, as kids my best mate and I used to ride to the airport to watch the planes, other kids said we were boring. His mum loved PSB as well as me. He lost his battle with Leukaemia at 17.

Funny how this is such a nostalgic, introspective song but the video is anything but, and they work together perfectly. The models. The dancing. The dog. Each scene more breathtaking than the next. I have mixed feelings about B.W., but this video is an absolute visual masterpiece. I've been a Pethead since 1986 and the release of West End Girls, but this song always has been, and always will be, my favorite. Thank you PSB. I cannot put in to words how much you've impacted my life.
I have many favorite songs and whenever I hear them I get really thrilled... After 33 years of new favorite songs though, Being Boring remains the best pop song ever released and this is confirmed each time I hear/watch it... Thanx PSB!
incredible song - they closed their gigs with this song on the unity tour in 2022 - and its such an uplifting and emotional song. so happy to see them on stage singing this and Neil singing you can always rely on a friend and walking off stage with chris,
Pet shop boys was my first proper love favorite band. I worshiped the ground she walked on we. Loved listening to them. Then one day for no reason she left leaving me devastated. I'm 56 now still like pet shop boys but it's a reminder of a magical time but also a very hurtful time. Suppose it's best to live and lost than not loved at all 😔
*Nice.* The squeaky wheel gets the grease LOL! I was complaining about the intro being edited out of the upgrade version and now that has been rectified! _YAY!_ 🦓 _This song gains more meaning the older I get..._
I have to say this must be the best song from PSB lyrics are truly amazing I listen to this and it takes me back to my fun days I just love love love it. Thank u PSB ❤❤❤
"But I thought in spite of dreams You'd be sitting somewhere here with me". This verse is so heavy, when we think about people we are fallen in love and don't give a damn for us.
Such an iconic ground breaking band. It's a risqué video for the time in which it was written bit its tasteful and beautifully put together and tells story. It blends beautifully with the music with the wonderful harmonies and minor keys giving it that sadness and feeling of emptiness . Genius!
I have loved this song and that album from the moment I first heard it. This is the first time I’ve seen the video, though. Bruce Weber directed, of course. It’s beautiful. I’m so glad I’m finally allowed to see it here in America. ❤
I was 18 in 1990 when I fell in love with song. Listening to it now at 52 makes it even more nostalgic. And meaningful. Hope to make a comment on this video again 20 years from now. Stay alive, everyone. Xoxo!
I almost feel like I live in my own Gilded Age watching this. Because, this was just how I partied in the late 1980’s to the Mid 1990’s. Until some of the people I was kissing weren’t living anymore. If you know what I’m saying. Bitter Sweet times. But, I’m blessed to still be here. In my 60’s. 😊😊😊
I'd have no problem stating that as songwriters, Tennant and Lowe never did any better than this. And they achieved the greatness reserved for duos like Lennon and McCartney in the process. I'd have no problem, either, if someone said this song equals anything ever done by The Beatles. As a matter of fact, I believe it. Passion, emotion, love, sadness, contemplation. This song has it all.
One of the best tracks from their back catalogue...I grew up listening to the band in the 80's/90's and they always put out great tracks to keep you hooked.
This video just perfectly captures what it was like to be a teenager back in the early 90s. Every face in this clip is a mirror of someone I knew and was close to. Some I still see. Others I've lost contact with. Friends come and go. But, you always carry them in your heart. Amazing memories.
Bruce Weber did such an interesting job on this video. Specifically on the shots of Neil and Chris. Chris appears to want to jump in and dance with everyone else. Neil however is an observer. He's watching all of this from a third party. I adore this video. Always have. But the more I watched it through the years. I've made this clear distinction . It's obvious. Or it wasn't intentional but it certainly appears this way
I used to listen to this when I was about 10, 11, and I felt nostalgic despite not having really "lived". I am now 41 and somehow I get the same feeling I got when I was 11, but I also get a completely new feeling.
I had this album on cassette tape back in the 80's, and listened to it regularly on my Sony walkman and boom box. I was 15 at the time. No one in school liked the same music I did. I agree with lots of the other commenters here. Thank you.
This brings back so many memories. We rented a huge apartment on the English South Coast, and this song inspired some of our parties. We weren’t wealthy but dressed up and played the part. We didn’t have a care in the world.
I stumbled to this song few days ago, I can't believe I never heard it before (maybe heard it but never really pay attention). Thank you for creating this wonderful song guys! Being born in the late 70's the lyric hits hard and I loved it so much. Thanks for all the great songs! Bless you both.

@Vangelis Provias: Your comment is an excellent summary of how I feel about this song!😊
in 4 lines you said everything, I could not agree more
Hits even harder when you know what it's actually about- the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the 80s and all the people who lost loved ones, friends and family.
❤
One song guaranteed to bring tears to my eyes. "All the people I was kissing, some are here and some are missing." That was my life then.
Same with me. But, I’m blessed to still be here in September 2024. I can still relate to this song. ❤❤❤

Yo es primera vez que la oigo.
“Bahaviour” represents the Pet Shop Boys maturity
Love this! I always say that "Please" was my first adult tape that I ever bought. Pethead for life ❤️

Have you heard the 2024 remix from furthermore ? Neil speaks the opening message during the track

A pop masterpiece
A fantastic classic Pet shop boys song. One of my favourites.
I was 14 when this was released. I had this on cassette. I loved this album. It was 1990. The future seemed so bright and full of opportunity. It really was the peak of our civilization. they trying to duplicate 'I Should Be So Lucky'. this no joke. they themself told about it. they wanna change of chords like in Kylie Minogue SAW song

I came across a cache of old photos
And invitations to teenage parties
"Dress in white" one said, with quotations
From someone's wife, a famous writer
In the nineteen-twenties
When you're young you find inspiration
In anyone who's ever gone
And opened up a closing door
She said: "We were never feeling bored
'Cause we were never being boring
We had too much time to find for ourselves
And we were never being boring
We dressed up and fought, then thought: "Make amends"
And we were never holding back or worried that
Time would come to an end"
When I went I left from the station
With a haversack and some trepidation
Someone said: "If you're not careful
You'll have nothing left and nothing to care for
In the nineteen-seventies"
But I sat back and looking forward
My shoes were high and I had scored
I'd bolted through a closing door
I would never find myself feeling bored
'Cause we were never being boring
We had too much time to find for ourselves
And we were never being boring
We dressed up and fought, then thought: "Make amends"
And we were never holding back or worried that
Time would come to an end
We were always hoping that, looking back
You could always rely on a friend
Now I sit with different faces
In rented rooms and foreign places
All the people I was kissing
Some are here and some are missing
In the nineteen-nineties
I never dreamt that I would get to be
The creature that I always meant to be
But I thought in spite of dreams
You'd be sitting somewhere here with me
'Cause we were never being boring
We had too much time to find for ourselves
And we were never being boring
We dressed up and fought, then thought: "Make amends"
And we were never holding back or worried that
Time would come to an end
We were always hoping that, looking back
You could always rely on a friend
And we were never being boring
We had too much time to find for ourselves
And we were never being boring
We dressed up and fought, then thought: "Make amends"
And we were never being boring
We were never being bored
'Cause we were never being boring
We were never being bored
❤❤❤❤
Thank you ❤️
