I find even with the EAC I sometimes get a bit of white film in the cannister (though much less than would happen with loose sorb.) Just last week this started to annoy me, so I'll try your method to clean it up. Also, I was told by my ChOp instructor that a small bottle of vinegar is good to keep around on the off chance you ever ingest some caustic cocktail (also less likely with EAC than with sorb); you can gargle with it to help neutralize the alkaline burn in your throat.
Ah... Discovered the basic chemistry... You can use anything, that removes the lime/limestone... It does not differ from cleaning a coffee machine :) So you can use citric acid, phosphoric acid, etc... The acetic acid is the most smelly choice :D
