    BYU fan here. We'd LOVE to have Kanon on the squad this year. Kanon is a very talented player and I have no doubt that this new coaching staff can coach up Kanon and prepare him for the 2025 draft alongside Egor Demin. And there is a clear lane to major playing time for him at the 3/4 spots.

      @@shanereasoner7418 Nobody knows whether an athlete will be one and done! BYU has so much more to offer an athlete than a path to professional teams. BYU is well known for producing athletes who can see their lives beyond the professional ranks of the NBA and can help them prepare for the long-term of what their lives will look like in 20 or 30 or more years long after they have spent their time in the NBA. This is the secret to keeping athletes long-term. Yes, a religion of choice for athletes is important in those long-term plans and does not always mean membership in the sponsoring religion of BYU. BYU offers a balance for aspiring and elite athletes that is difficult to find anywhere else because of the culture BYU has that no one else has.

      BYU is not a top 5 Program..not even a top 20…had a good team last year but got beat opening round..don’t remember even seeing them ranked in the top 10 all year…win 25 plus games for for ATLEAST 7 seasons in a row and stay ranked in the top 10 for the whole season for 7 consecutive years then come back with that talk

    BYU = Duke of the west. It used to be a 'who would want to go to BYU where they have that strict honor code thing', now it's, 'hey, come to BYU, we'll help you keep your nose clean and totally focused so you can achieve your dream of playing in the NBA.' Dope.

    His fit with Purdue didn’t seem good. Purdue wants guys for multiple years.
    Kevin Young just came from the NBA developing Booker so he knows what guys need that want to get there quickly and be prepared as much as possible.
    Both Painter and KY are great coaches just different styles and it seems KY could be a better fit for Kanon.

    • @purpleplusgold
      @purpleplusgold 6 месяцев назад +6

      He's been bounced around a lot in the rankings. Three months ago he was in the mid teens and an ESPN mock had him going 22nd. Whose to say if he's actually the 15th best or 35th best recruit in the nation, but it's damn sure that Kanon didn't change as a player in the last 90 days while his ratings have changed wildly. So take the ratings with a pinch of salt.

  • @steveostermeier1887

    Most likely he figured out he would be spending most of his freshman year on the bench while more experienced players got more playing time ahead of him. He would have been competing with Camden head and Myles Colvin for playing time, 2 players with a year under their belts. Painter let him out of his signing because he figured out this guy wouldn't;t fit into Purdue's team concept. Je would have most likely added nothing to the Purdue program with his attitude.BYU fans, be careful what you ask for. Just look at all the 4 and 5 star players Campari recruited at Kentucky and the lack of success.

  • @outsideview9052
    @outsideview9052 6 месяцев назад +4

    BYU should not want to try and do what Calipari did his first few years at Kentucky which was just recruit one and done players. LIke Purdue, a college basketball team is better when players will commit to play there for multiple years . A coach should never promise a starting role for a player. Make him go earn it.

    • @SidelinePlugs
      @SidelinePlugs  6 месяцев назад +3

      As long as BYU doesn't go crazy with the one and done players and have some older guys they'll be fine

  • @jimwilliams1064
    @jimwilliams1064 6 месяцев назад +1

    Word around here is that he decommitted before so Purdue doesn’t need a player that is not willing to work hard and play a role. Whatever that role is we have a lot of returning talent. Good luck to him but it sounds like we’ll be better off without him. That is if he had not come in and got he role he wanted ant not the role he earned.

    • @dfausti66
      @dfausti66 6 месяцев назад

      I don't believe that it is a matter of working hard and playing a role issue for athletes. Sometimes, it is a matter of the role within a particular scheme that needs to be played. The environment that the scheme produces is also a factor especially when a scheme does not fit a particular skillset or the coaches cannot teach a skillset that works for the athlete. Human interconnection within a group or a scheme is more complicated than a matter of "work hard and play a role!" Assuming that one basketball program is a one-size-fits-all all is misguided!

    Kanon will be a great replacement for Jaxson Robinson. Kanon has the ability to move and create his own shots unlike Jaxson who was very reliant on his teammates to create space for him.... Kevin Young is quickly adapting to the NCAA turned PRO style of Basketball that's occurring. He has put together a Pro style coaching staff and these kids see the potential... Kannon talked about visits to a couple other good schools but those haven't materialized as I personally think he has already made his decision to join BYU....
