    It's only a matter of time before the soldering comes off . You need to use a thin flat metal with welding to connect batteries. Look how the batteries are connected in the laptop. It's because of the current draw pre cell , Irrespective of the voltage. ( All are in parallel)

    • @SweBeach2023
      @SweBeach2023 6 лет назад +4

      Not from really old batteries, but when a fairly new battery dies overnight it's almost always because of the failure of a single cell. So while 3350 mAh may be out of the question, don't be surprised to find cells still containing in the 2500-2800 mAh range even if the battery as such is completely dead.

    • @cekpi7

      Håkan Rohdin most batteries from laptop are close to 2Ah, you might be lucky and find 3Ah, ive got almost 10 old laptop batteries to experiment with and most of them were around 2Ah and got about 1.5Ah of usable capacity (also alot of them were dead)

    Soldering skill and the box is the best I ever seen. Also as a note, Li ion batts need balancing and monitoring circuit but nt this crap. If you want your power bank to last few uses it's okay. First time I see electronics in such a safe case.

    If you ever make a 40,000MAh. And use a cheap Li-ion charger, it will take ages to charge the battery pack up. Cheap Li-ion charging boards only supply 1- 2amps charging current at the most. Which is practically very slow to charge a pack of 40,000mah.

    • @tylerjohannes
      @tylerjohannes 7 лет назад

      Anirudh Kundu it takes 30 hours of charging

    • @Der_Ed
      @Der_Ed 6 лет назад +1

      And then, you only get around 30 Ah out of it, since the cells would have an average 4v (3.7v-4.2v) but the usb uses 5v to charge, also take losses in the circuit in account.
      That's about 10.000 mAh less than advertised

    That's pretty awesome. I made a housing that you could add/remove 4 batteries from it for charging so that some could charge while I used it. It was then as simple as connecting the leads to a broken USB car charger I found. Funny thing is, I found everything I needed for the project for free, from the cells down to the chargers for the batteries. Two vapes someone threw away because the tank broke, but the mechanical parts were perfectly fine besides an almost unnoticeable imperfection on the led display of one. Another nice thing to note is that 2 batteries alone can power a raspberry pi 3 running retropi making the perfect battery pack for my portable arcade.

      woaah no no no no bro. do not use AA batteries. they dont have enough capacity. even 10 of those wont be able to full charge your phone. stick to lithium based cells. the boost converter wont work 1.5 volts

    The charging speed is pretty impressive. However, I was wondering what additions I can make into the setup to get a higher charging speed? I have a Turbo Charger at my disposal. Are there any pieces I can use by dismantling it?

    1. Cheap charging kits typically has 4056 like charger IC that can supply maximum 700mA continuous charging current. To fully charge your 40Ah power bank at 90% efficiency, you will need more than 63 hours! I doubt through it can supply 40Ah.
    2. Many 18650's have built in thermal fuse that blows up making it completely unusable if you try to solder it's terminals by hand.
    3. If you really have the itch of making your own power bank, you can purchase batteries, enclosure & PCB from the market & assemble it on your own rather than trying to reinvent the wheel.

      You have to test the capacity and all cells must have the same voltage. This Charger is only for four or five batteries and it will take over a week to charge it with the rated capacity. You will never get 3000mah batterys from laptop batteries or 2000mah or 1500mah

    For the size of powerbank , 6 to 8 h with normal charger isn't enough to pump up all cells.
    Typical charging time @2A would still be 20h. Considering efficiency of dc-dc converter at 80% max in ideal cases for cheap coverters, it will take more than a whole day to charge this thing. Also batteries do discharge as time goes.
    So yeah do it if you're doing it for fun, otherwise get readymade as it has better overvolt and undervolt protection which cheap ones usually doesnt include, plus which are specially made for set of Li-Ion cells. Its maximizes battery life as well.
