Great whites sharks may be regarded as cold killers. However the bull shark is now reputed to be guilty of many of the attacks that we have blamed on great whites in the past. From the BBC.

lol at 0:27 that guy just smacks away the shark like it's nothing
being that 1 person thats going to die in a great white attack this year is the scariest thing I could ever possibly imagine.
at the end all i could think of:
"omg get outta the water THEN start explaining" xD
I remember swimming in a reef in Fiji when I encountered a Black Tip Reef Shark, which I know are very safe to swim with and are mostly likely used to humans swimming around their habitat since it was a tourist attraction, so I stopped swimming stayed still and tried to calm my racing heart by holding my breath. It didn't even take any notice of me and swam right underneath me not bothered. Shark's aren't always man-eating mindless predators.
whoa!!! I used to love watching this program on tv!!!
it ws nice finding these clippings on youtube!!
Keep up the good work Steve!!!! :)
omg, this dude must be really brave to put his hand on the shark's mouth like that
holy shit! that shot at 2:45 and onwards of the great white was frightingly amazing! such a majestic creature
@Nepthu im not stating anything, i was merely commenting on basic shark behavior, i never grouped sharks together as a certain stereo-type, i was commenting about basic shark behavior, i didnt say they will react like this, or in this way, because in hindsight they probably won't, and nature IS unpredictable that im aware of.
this guy has some serious balls
i remember when i was a kid my dad went diving in mexico and his friend kept pointing behind him and when he turned around there was a bull shark...which are more docile than they lead you to believe
Hey, lets go chase some sharks in a rubber dingy.
I was watching something interesting on the discovery channel a few months ago. They had a shark in a tank, which they drugged to make it docile. They attached electrodes to it's head, and measured it's reaction to the smell of human blood, and the smell of seal blood.
The shark became very excited when it's smelled the seal blood. When it smelled the human blood, there was very little electrical activity.
Humans are certainly not the preferred food item of sharks.
1:58 - I agree, don't tempt fate.
I don't mind the ads
but if there always comes the same ad on so that you've to watch it xxxxx times that's really annoying
"that was a huge fish! Fantastic"
then he gets bitten and pulled away from behind
OMG! I'm going to meet Steve Lenard soon!!!
I almost thought that great white was going to turn around and come back
to satisfy human curiousity. much like a snake charmer kissing the cobras nose. stupid? very... but gives you that adrenaline rush!
why would you do that?? i heard a story from someone once. he was scuba diving with his best friend and this curious great white took a bite out of his friend and started vigorously eating him. the guy said the water all around him was red and murky mixed with sand and blood. he got the bends disease because he swam for his life up to the surface. a few days later his crew and him went down to the same spot where they were before. all that was left was a flipper, mask, and the actual footage!
ZOMG what a little boat ..
i live in florida close to the beach and ive never encountered a shark. the day i do i will never go back to the beach though haha
huge problem with that argument.
300 mill people or so in the USA. only a very small percentage live near shark habitat.
although statistically true that on average you are more likely to be hit by lightning then attacked by a shark, that's just it, it's an average.
for people living near shark habitats and regularly go in the water the chances of being attacked by a shark are much higher then being struck by lightning.
Ya your right, and anyway sharks are not hostiles to us, they are just attracted by blood.
here in Belgium (Europe) we don't have adds :D
you guys got balls!!
Whales are born with excellent bouyancy.
(they float quite well.)
Lol, does anyone actually think of sharks at mindless man-eaters?
Why is it always necessary on a TV show about sharks to emphasise how deadly to people they can be? The story here seems to be 'lay off the great whites, save some of your anger and fear for bull sharks'
Great White shark are the only know shark that can jump out of the water to catch it prey which is totally cool
imagine if at 3:40 he just suddenly gets pulled underwater by a great white
there isn't a single species of shark in existence that is attracted to human blood.
@Nepthu sharks arn't stupid mindless killing machines, a human is to lean and if put in the water with a seal it is highly likely that the seal would be the prefered choice of any shark, as ive mentioned before, they are generally calm and observative creatures, they swim closely just to observe it doesn't mean they want to kill you, and when they bite a human its generally a sample bite, and quick grab and release, there never ripped to shreds.
And here we a have a bull shark look at it's amazin-Oh My God!!.....CRUNCH
how come you're not afraid of something that you can't kill with fire?
what a cool shark
which series is this?
To many people are killing sharks just to have ... SOUP? Seriously, I'd stick with doughnuts.
the guy at 0:27 didn't have any balls the thing is that he didn't have any brains to think that the shark can rip the hand off
sharks only attack humans when they think their fish.
killer implies that it kills things, nothing more.
murderer implies malevolence.
the sailors are killed by the sharks, not eaten by the sharks. yes it's a feeding frenzy, but they don't actually feed. they are only biting to test if it's food.
all the shark knows is there's a massive disturbance in the water so they investigate and home in on anything swimming erratically.
they take a bite, killing the sailor or mortally wounding him. they don't eat them.
they don't attack without reason. Making sounds/Smelling like their usualy prey is a reason, btw.
did he just TOUCH the damn thing?!
0:28 OMFG I do this all the time...but with my dog
1st, both victims were swimmers- not surfers. 2nd, sharks attracted to a free meal at dives are in a different, more relaxed state than predatory mode. 3rd, if there was nothing to fear about sharks, then there would be no cages at all. I've seen over 20 White sharks from a cage. They were curious in the sense that we are a known, tertiary prey item. Sharks don't have the cognitive faculties for abstract curiousity, now do they? I will check out that beer next time I buy Maredsous, et al. Cheers
it didn't attack the lady for no reason.
there's a very obvious reason why it attacked her. it was hungry and thought she was food.
Dammm ..that shits crazy
3:16 that huge great white shoulda came from the side and much em up :]
im sure they don't wonder why they lose their hands.
their probably quite certain why their hand is gone.
well first off, it would be like giving a bird gills or something. it would be completely unsuited to its environment, it wouldn't work with the animal and it would be really really freaky to look at.
second off, i do understand (though not all shark attacks come from 'curious sharks'), but the idea of being groped by a mutant shark hand in the middle of the ocean doesn't appeal to me, ok?
no they don't
that's directly at odds with how shark attacks happen.
they bite the human, realize it's not what they thought it was, and release.
if they developed a taste for human flesh, which is what you just said, they wouldn't release and would attack swimmers all day long.
press F6 to skip adverts! spread this around youtube
look it up mr. wizard.
why did you bother responding to a comment that is over a year old? some things we may never know.
i would shit my pants straight if i was there
What a nut. That guy could have easily lost his arm up to his elbow!
we all know theyre not like represented in Jaws but the fact is if a GW bites you its quite likely your in the shit
They mostly come at night... mostly...
Most sharks are opportunistic predators that attack only when they think there's food available.Attacks on people happen when sharks mistake people for some marine animal or fish, their normal food, and that's why sharks don't usually eat people, they bite once, find out that they're mistaken and swim away. Of course sharks are dangerous, any predator is, but they aren't some demons that only exist to kill or maim. Caution is the key word when dealing with sharks, not panic or irrational hatred.
I heard that more people are killed by coconuts than by sharks
not to mention one hell of an attitude! Great Whites are more cautious.
yeah i would want a bigger boat and i would want to stay onboard thanks! theres no way i could get in the water with sharks around!
Yes, I am sure. If they attack a surfer, it's because the surf board makes the sound of a fish.
"Come on in, the water's great!"
/s/ White Death
they're using a blue sharks head as a bait
@HxXFromFirstToLastXx
"So hot? My poor little sir." - Emerson
sharks with hands? that is wrong, and scary.
actually they're very predictable.
that's how we know they bite out of curiosity.
Keep diving until one kills you? Is that the goal here? I don't get it.
was the shark bait a shark ?!?!
im fed up with the stereo-type of the great white shark, bull sharks are much more dangerous than any other shark as the attacks on humans are more common with the species of shark, they make out it deliberate that a shark attacks a human, it not, sharks can confuse humans splashing around for an injured seal, they only bite and release, almost sampling when people claim to have been attacked, this is almost all ways the case, so please discovery get your facts right.
that was a huge fish :):)
Ok, sharks aren't "evil"...you don't think they have the capacity to feel empathy, do you?
After all, they eat their own young.
BUT THEY SAW YOU!
Thumbs Up if you imagine the bloke falling in the water
i think they need a bigger boat....
most deadly shark would be bull shark, i read.
he got the bends and was diving a few days later?
made up story. you don't swim a few days after you get the bends, you are usually rushed to lengthy hyperbaric chamber treatments. the bends is not something you get over in a couple of days.
and they wonder why they lose their hands and shit wtf he put his hand near its mouth
they guy puts his hand like in its mouth 0.o YOU MAD 0:28
That is also absurd.
Tell me, what happened to Mr. Martin in my hometown a few summers ago? Was there blood in the water? No.
What about Mr. Skinner off Fish Hoek, SA? He was attacked and eaten completely without warning, without provocation.
Stick to opining on Belgian Beers (I love La Chouffe), instead of a subject you obviously know nothing about.
looks like theres more den 1 great white
Hey, you forgot to put apostrophe for "isnt"! You're also didn't capitalize letter "i". Go back to school!
but we dont exactly know if they are still alive
stop posting comments on how you think your so tough
would you go swimming with them? they are nice to watch on telly or from a big boat but at the end of the day they are unpredictable killers, they may just bite to check you out but that would hurt and lead to a lot of blood in the water leading to a possible secondary attack. no i"m fine just watching them from my sofa thanks!
curiosity killed the shark.
if you're in the ocean you're shark food :)
Of course it's dangerous to dive with a white shark, they admitted that. The point is they bite out of curiosity not hunger or lust to kill.
try swimming with a great shark even if you stay still or acting not scared it still gonna eat you that beast onlyy 2 thing on its mind.. "Meat, FOOD!!!!!!!!!" LMAO
You don't actually think that a movie is acurate to reality, rightw? White sharks don't attack humans unless that human is bleeding or is attacking the shark.
@Robopencil I saw it too and indeed, it was sooo interesting, and really showed we don't need to be so afraid of sharks, as long as we don't make them mad or they're not extremely hungry, normally they'll never hurt you :)
I had a phobia w/ those sharks..yikes xD
sharks have been demonised big time
what the fuck? they didn't even go down in a cage
tis true sharks think we taste disgusting, hence why the only real fatalities are due to blood loss, plus the only thing they have to explore with is their mouth, so rather then starving they have to check if the item is edible
BTW, the narrator erroneously implies that White sharks bite people on account of some abstract curiosity- an exclusively mammalian affair. White sharks are "curious" if something is edible. It might bite into a boat because it is "curious" if sinking it will yield any food items. That is sadly more plausible than "mistaken identity" theory. Are the preceptive faculties are there, or not there. What a horribly injurious trait, would such a faulty apparatus be. I fancy.
The squid are the ones to watch out for. arr!
@perpexel Same
shit i would fucking shat my self if that fucking thing bite me or something
