As a fellow Brit this episode was amazing, never really watched a soap but always remember scrambling for the remote so hollyokes didn’t come on after the Simpson lmfao.
i honestly did the exact same thing
the best part of Phil Mitchell is when he fought Mr Blobby on Harry Hill's TV burp
YES
PHIL MITCHELL THE FUCKING ICON
that was peak British culture right there
That's the most British sentence ever
Oh God I remember that 😂
Nah it was definitely when he kicked in 200 doors chasing Harry Hill around ITV studios
Dimensions in time presents a weird problem in Doctor Who's canon, because although the EastEnders characters seemingly exist in universe, so does the show. There's an episode where ghosts start appearing around the world and people just accept it as part of their lives, and we see an episode of EastEnders where Peggy yells "LISTEN DEN WARS, I DON'T CARE IF YOU ARE BACK FROM THE DEAD, GET OUT OF MAH PUB! THE ONLY SPIRITS I'M SERVING IS VODKA AND LAGER! SO GO ON, GET OUT!"
I think, in some extended media, it was explained that dimensions in time was just a bad dream the doctor had or something. I don't remember where I read that from but I believe that was the reason given
@@slickwine you're 100% right, I can't remember where it said that either 😅
The weirdest I’ve ever ventured down the rabbit hole of British soaps is when my mom mentioned the Dingles from Emmerdale. She googled them to prove a point and we ended up discovering that the in show family had a canonical family tree stretching back about a thousand years. Just the look on her face after a few minutes scrolling and saying “you’re gonna wanna read this.”
Omg they need to an episode on this there's Italian relatives
@@yogsblogs wasn't there a film of "The Dingles in Venice" ?
Jfc
In the show they are farmers/ land owners in the uk, that’s fairly standard
Cain Dingle my love
As a part of your overwhelming American viewing audience, I can say that not only do I not know about who Phil Mitchell is as a character, have no context for the character, and it matters not. Keep up the confusing of us Yankees you beautiful bastard.
As a young teen, I was into EastEnders during the early-mid 2000s, and Phil was a real fucking boss. Dennis (Dirty Den's son) was also a real badass. I was fucking gutted they killed him off with a traditional British shanking.
Big mistake killing him off and Steve Owen.
My favourite Phil Mitchell part is where he gets in the digger drunk laughing like a maniac and destroying everything.
Karl, how dare you call Eastenders crap telly. Eastenders is our national pride alongside fish and chips and complaining about the weather!
Regional pride. Depends where you live, hollyoaks, coronation street or emmerdale could be the national pride
I respect the no-shits-given attitude of recognizing that you're alienating an audience and still going though with it. I strive to even have half that attitude when I do decide to persue a RUclips career lmao
One of my favorite episodes was Horrible Histories, just continue to be yourselves, that's what I like about this channel.
FF explains Horrible histories is a favorite
Oh shut up Louis
I grew up in a household that religiously watched eastenders but I started watching it myself over the last couple years, Karl summed it up with “soap operas are shit, but I love eastenders”
I feel like this needs an add-on follow up with the insane and how unlucky Billy Mitchell. It's like life literally craps on him every single week, and he comes back for seconds. Such is how bad his lot in life seems to be. He could win the lottery and some characters new dog will eat the winning ticket, that is just how bad his luck has felt over the years.
Was it his first appearance when someone asked him how much to kill a turkey and he named a price and they said, "for a turkey?" and he answered, "for anyone." Then the turkey got run over by a car? I've loved him ever since.
The Ian Beale vs Phil Mitchell drama is just iconic. The character's respective sons had a scene recently which mirrored their feud
American here, currently been watching Eastenders with the parents cause of the streaming service we have.
I’d never considered the fact that Phil Mitchell had met a Time Lord.
I live in Maryland USA and until just recently we had two episodes of Eastenders playing on a public access channel. I started watching it around 12 years ago and started right before jenene pushed Barry off the cliff on their wedding day and ended right around when Dots son brought his daughter around to scam her out of money. Unfortunately the BBC for some reason decided to stop giving access to the show so it abruptly stopped. I was gutted because I have become very enamored with the characters on the show. I've since been watching random episodes on RUclips but it's never reliable. I really wish the BBC would put every episode on a streaming service that Americans can watch. I've tried the VPN thing and it didn't work for me. My Saturday mornings just aren't the same without Eastenders. I'm not even the shows demographic (not just because I'm American) because I'm 40 and love heavy metal and gaming. I just fell in love with the show. If anyone knows of a reliable way to watch old episodes please let me know. Thanks! Also I love Phil.
I think they’re available on BritBox
As an American, I got my English culture from "As Time Goes By", "Last of the Summer Wine", and "Open All Hours". I will give "East Enders" a try.
Just a heads up it has roughly 4 episodes a week every week and has been running since I think the 70s there's a lot of catching up to do
Good luck binging the box set
I remember when Phil and his brother went on a rampage then Ross kemp ramped his car into the river and "died/dissappeared" absolute peak.
You are right I definitely thought "Who the hell is Phil Mitchell?"
To this day i still remember the football chant from an episode i caught with them all playing football.
"HES BALD!, HES FAT!, HES GOT A BASEBALL BAT! PHIL MITCHELL! PHIL MITCHELL!"
Has anyone else noticed those dinosaurs in front of the green screen?
I like the photos online of Steve McFadden just having a lovely time in an aquarium.
i know the actor owns the one of more well known nightclubs down here in plymouth
30% non americans represent
Loved the PBS Brit block I'd watch with family. Keeping up with appearances, Waiting for God, etc.
Ha I'm part of the British crowd I got this!
Watching from West Yorkshire, Karl I swear you're my spirit animal😂
Met him at a meet and greet in a pop world nightclub and he takes his character really serious
You're not alienating us, you're enlightening us!
With love, from Canada
Im from Finland, we had Eastenders in here from 2004 - 2014. I really enjoy watching episodes on youtube.
I, as an American, love "british crap telly." If I didn't why would I be watching Fact Fiend? 🔥
British and watch all the time! , Love your guys take on it and love how it's completely not polished and you just have a laugh and yet it some how works!
I went to uni with, basically, Irish Babs O’Windsor. I’ve never seen someone not do what she says.
Steve used to own, (not sure if he still does) a night club near me in Cornwall southwest England. He was there one night, and had the fuck kicked out of him. He was major battered and bruised. So they had to change the story line in eastenders. That he was in a fight or something so they didn't have to cover up his bruises and black eyes! So it looked real on the set. 🤣🤣😍
oh god dimensions in time. i had wiped that from my memory but now all i can see is basically every single doctor who costume in the bbc department at the time running around walford and noel edmonds sat talking to jon pertwee in character as the third doctor
Sadly, the figurines on the desk magically dissapeared due to the fact they were green.
Ngl really hoped this was going to be more of his irl madness. Great vid none the less
I do enjoy it when the Fact Fiend co talk about something I know and love. But let's be real here, I'd listen to Karl go off on tangents about nearly anything.
13:18 Did that happen before or after 2005 and "I AM the Senate!"
As a kid, the doofs meant it was bedtime and back then, Phill was the nice Mitchell, especially compared to Grant.
I've been watching Eastenders here in the US for a couple of decades (and for the short time I lived in London). It's the only soap opera I'll watch. I love every wonderful trashy thing about it. I'm so here for this vid.
oh gosh, I’ve been down the EastEnders rabbit hole. I took a month away from it but I fear this is going to suck me back in. It’s so bad but so good
He’s just method acting like hell 🤣
“Well I mean, my characters on crack soo…”
east enders was broadcast on PBS here in NC in the 90's and my dad loved that show
This one man has written every article on the face of the earth. I assure you if you look at a random one of his videos in at least half he says that either he wrote a article about the topic or a article that is relevant to the topic. Sometimes he is just reading his own damn words!
Then I can’t get off my ass to do work. We need to be like Mr.Smallwood for he is the biggest of us all.
love this channel...keep it up
I'd watch EastEnders when PBS aired it here in the US, and when Phil and Peggy were around. That was such a long time ago.
omg this is great. as a Canadian I want to believe East Enders is in the Trailer Park Boys universe 🤣🤣🤣 please do one on Mr. Lahey he was pure chaos energy!
Karl that’s one highly cultured shirt you got
my mom as watched east enders my whole life lol she is always like 5 years behind lol
So, tin of beans, cooked to perfection, toast, bacon, and East Enders.
I now have a very specific Halloween Costume idea
My girlfriend is from Darbyshire and until I met her I didn't know there was places besides London
Now that you’ve ventured into the soap rabbit hole I hope you will do a video on Zak Dingle. The greatest man who ever lived
I like his shirt, wonder where its from?
I feel so alienated 👽
Man, I remember this; my mum was a fan of this show growing up
Did anyone else catch Lucas saying 'BBC's up our arse' at 12:40
phil mitchell has kicked everyones doors in round walford
9:17 that's the best thing I've ever heard
Phil probably threw him out the TARDIS.
I saw a fan cast for the fantastic 4 with Danny dyer (mick carter I think In eastenders) as reed richards and Phil goddam Mitchel as Ben Grimm/the thing and I honestly laughed my arse off at it
Phil Mitchell should of been in The Football Factory with Danny Dyer.
alienate me fact daddy
Casa de Papel is my favorite Soap Opera
I'm an American living who's lived in Liverpool 2 years, and I still surprise my friends with random British culture I have no context for. My favourite so far has been panto lol
oh no it isnt!
Actually, he didn’t crash the boat into his adoptive son Dennis ( Denny) Denny was locked in a room by Ian “I’ve got nothing left” Beale and was still there when Phil crashed the boat. Denny couldn’t get out since he was trapped and drowned
The producer just holds the “fruit and flowers”, and doesn’t let go until they get the scene they want.
Not watched enders in at least 2 decades but damn
my family used to call him the bean, glad its a thing😂
“So, far away L-“
holds breath, hopes harder than all life
“-ucas,”
Praises the sky, believes in god briefly again for a thin moment, praises pazuzu, screams in excitement.
Every week Karl it was Every night in my house I live an breathe Albert square an it's cast of lovable characters from Ian Beale to Dot Cotton they all feel like family
(I hope this has puzzled the Americans)
PBS played EastEnders late at night when I was a kid!
Is Barbara Windser also in the carry on films? She looks familiar
Yes
He didn’t crash a boat into his adoptive son. Said Son was stuck in a room on the boat cos Ian Beale locked him in there
Oh yeah... I completely forgot Karl and the others are tea drinking vampires with an immortal ancient one as their overlord.
Wait. There was a Doctor Who/Eastenders crossover. The Tardis was once seen abandoned in Red Dwarf. In Back to Earth, the crew go to our universe. That means that Steve McFadden canonically exists in the same universe as Phil Mitchell.
I'd be interested to see how many times people have attempted to kill him during the past 30 odd years!
12:38 Ayyo
Don't even know who Phill Mitchell is, but he used to look like Bonehead from Oasis.
It's the guy from the meme
Can't believe he still doing eastenders? Also yes in the USA but born and raised in the uk
I would like to learn much much more about British culture.
It’s this kind of every day stuff you’d never learn unless you lived somewhere for a while, or watched a video like this
Lol literally all I know about East Enders is that there was a crossover with Doctor Who and people hated it.
Edit: Oh hey they mentioned it!
"80% of our audience is American, and we are going to confuse the crap out of them by talking about a British TV star."
Alright. Im game.
My mum loves the carry on movies
I have no clue who this is, why he is important, and what this is about. I truly do not care and want to hear as much as possible.
As a Canadian, I beg of you PLEASE DO MORE UK SHIT!
What shirt is Karl wearing?
As a South African born to British parents half of what I know of British culture I learned from watching EastEnders
What's that T-shirt anyway
Phil should go on ninja warrior
You going to do grant Mitchell
Even if you can't stand soaps you'll know who Phill is because that character is so prolific, I recommend people search Phil enders which is the whole theme tune entirely in Phil grunts.
Actually the deaths were a little wrong
Dennis Rickman Jr (his adopted son) was killed in a boat accident caused by him and Ben fighting BUT it was Ian Beale who locked Dennis in the boat and therefore was actually the one to kill him.
Tina Carter was found under floorboards by Phil after being killed by Gray Atkins.
Baked Bean man
Ian Beale is stepson which is the best part
The EastEnders timeline is easier to follow than the X-Men movies
Am I crazy or did it skip from 7-15 no one else has seemed to mention it in the comments
Can confirm American here don't know anything about British culture
better method actor than daniel day lewis
Fantastic video however you should have left it on a cliffhanger (started reading another fact before cutting off ie Phil Mitchell is know to ...... duff duff)
