An excellent quality and detailed documentary, thank you. I found this when looking for the title of a British feature film drama (most likely also from the 1940's) which I saw when it aired on TV in Australia in the late '60's. The background to the story of that film was in how declining British manufacturing industries and the communities which relied on them, were saved by accepting the need to embrace the manufacture of plastics.

3:56 The worker was not wearing any protective face covering which was normal at that time. He must inevitably have had plastic dust in his lungs. Even Toothbrushes are now Made In China so unlikely there are still made in Blighty.

Incredibly labour intensive manufacturing processes- and dangerous too. Imagine today’s HSE descending on those factories. Wonder if we could ever set up for that sort of effort again?
