Keep the comments civil. I really do respect the developers and while we're all eager to get Build 42 and try out the new content, it'll be well worth the wait for everyone. Its ok... I bought this game 10 years ago.. I've seen the leaps and bounds in gameplay and development. Sure, it takes forever, but the past few major updates have entertained me for thousands of hours a piece. I hope they don't sell.

@@farshot2713 I remember many years ago I was browsing the internet for any interesting zombie survival titles. I stumbled upon a small tech demo of a man trying to help his injured wife. There were no guides back then. And I couldn't figure out how to save them. I never got around to get out of their home. And I either died to a horde or the house burning down. I found it too difficult and left it at that. Years later I see it explode in popularity and I decide to check it out again. And it's a drastically changed game and I've never smiled as wide knowing where it began and seeing how far it has gotten. If the devs ever see this, please remember, for every negative comment there are plenty people silently appreciating your hard work and we understand your struggles.
I think that we should all take some advice from the long darks fanbase, they know that if they want a quality update they will have to wait. As a person who barely knows how to code I think that it's very difficult and I admire anyone who is able to put out a game of quality like this. If the PZ devs see this, I would love to thank them for the amazing game they have given us.
@@badxradxandy do you know ANYTHING about game development? First off, this game is already "finished", as it is in a playable and enjoyable state, but it continues to get updates. You nailed it man, the long dark started rough and became something so fun and good and loved, it took a long time to do it but it was so worth the wait. This game is *loved* deeply by the devs and they deserve patience and love while they work on it for us.
If they sell the game it may get ruined watch the video please before replying. Also i think indie stone have a really good thing going with this game and it could change drastically if another company get ahold of it
They can't sell the game, it's an empty threat. No one is interested in the IP unless they get the studio as well, which would just leave the studio with tight quotas making their frustration a hundred times worse.
getting recommended this after the unstable was released is crazy, the amount of content they added is absolutely insane and because it was such a massive overhaul it wouldn’t have really made sense to release it in multiple parts. Don’t get me wrong it did take ages to releqse but it’s not like they were sitting on their asses doing nothing, they were revamping basically every system in thw game.
I only have hundreds of hours in 41 and I’m STILL learning, exploring and getting better. If 42 drops and wipes me, I’d honestly be heart broken. But it’s worse knowing the devs ant complete it how they want to, and the fans won’t relax
@@andrewellisonlee The game is titled as early access. Which means work in progress and unfinished. Your comment is invalid. Document yourself more before posting. I'm happy to have further discussions with you.
I dont think the average person actually understands how difficult it is to develop a game. Especially if you're a small team and you set deadlines. Delays happen, shit breaks, and the work piles up.
Well, those who don't know how game development goes think that is very easy and just needs 1 single click to basically release a full game in minutes. (Btw this is what my dad friend thought about how development works)
While I understand the frustration from the devs, I really felt like the statement Lemmy put out was a bit of an overreaction. PZs community, in comparison to most other communities, is generally overwhelmingly positive. The way I got into zomboid was through the community and how highly the game was spoken about and adored. I get that "compared to other communities" isnt exactly a golden standard, but if you're a dev of a game thats been out for 10 years, still hasnt had a full release, or received a major update in nearly 4 years, of course you're going to have a portion of your community pushing for the next release, especially when you've been teasing it so much and announced it to be released in the first part of this year. Despite all that I still mostly see positive feedback and discussions from the community. I really dont understand the big issue here
@@crolaa6137 You have clearly no idea how stressful game development is, especially when you're working on a game for so long, makes you burned out pretty easily, and to top that all of you get to deal with impatient gamers threatening you.

I get people are tired of waiting, but it seems like most are constantly raging on the delayed release and not actual criticism. You call it criticism but what is it helping exactly.
Well at the end of the day promising something over and over again but never delivering anything leaves a really bad taste in everyone’s mouth, maybe they should just take their time and not make any promises unless they are 1000% certain they can make it happen.

All of the hate towards them is without a doubt undeserved. The amount of work put into this game and the fact they have even gotten this far in game development with such a small team is beyond me. Most others what those who are complaining don’t realize is that this is going to be a larger update than b41. (I know, that’s insane to comprehend, that was a BIGGASS update) The amount of new systems getting added with animals, the grapple Z tech, a larger height limit AND basements just to name a few. Along with all that, we get a map expansion which will be HUGE, a LOT of new items, containers, and weapons as I’ve heard, and a bunch more animations (lag one comes with the grapple Z stuff but Yknow) Just- patience is a virtue people. I love this game, and I don’t want it to get sold off because the devs who ALSO love this game are getting pushed, overworked, and harassed because they can’t meet a quota.
its one update every 3 years with minimal content? try any other game with a similar dev team and they wont make it take 3 years for an update. they have a right to be criticized. if they were making a grand update that adds an extreme amount of content then maybe just maybe the over 3 year wait is worth it. i think the borderline harassment the indie stone is getting is over the top but its not fully unjustified.
The fact that it is ONLY taking 3 years is insane for the team size, most of the time an update isn't announced until it's mostly done. They announced it right before the work started. They are being punished for transparency that no other studio shows.

I get what the devs are saying, but selling the game or having build 42 be paid dlc is not going to cause any less hate, it would probably add fuel to the hate if anything
They dont actually want to sell, reading the full comment it seemed like venting. But even if they did sell and it caused more hate, they wouldnt care anymore... since they sold the game and are no longer connected to it, atleast directly.
the dlc comment is to say "what we are doing is free, and yet there's still so much hate for it", and selling the game is "it would be nice to get rid of this hate even if we had to just clean our hands of the game for it", since most players will just go on to harass the new devs if it gets sold, how nice I know

Ok, I might come out as a little bit cruel but... Posting anything online carries the risk of receiving negative feedback. And it's especially true if the topic is something important to a group of people. I'm obviously not saying that it's right for anyone to say anything mean and I will do my best to defend small creators who are getting attacked like this. But at the same time, lashing back out and saying (or maybe threatening?) that they will sell the game is not fair either. What about the fans who don't attack them? Or those who try to defend them? Point is - it's the internet, if you post anything, get ready for negativity. It's not right but it is still there. You can't stop it, so prepare for it, or avoid posting altogether 🤷🏼♀️
So they should just continue to give free shit to people who don't appreciate it? I honestly don't blame them if they do sell it. This means that, as you put it so harshly, the developers promise to 'give free shit' until the game is labaled as completed. After this, any other updates and developments can be (but doesn't have to - look at Stardew Valley for example!) treated as additional, paid content.

Thats a way to say that some players are thankless. PZ could have gone with a the sims route and add more mechanics as DLC, but they keep updating the game for free many years later and people still act like dicks
@UndeadKIRA The thing is, no they can not. 1: It opens legal issues. PZ is an in development early access game, not a fully developed one. 2: That is a sure fire way to kill your player base.
I really don’t understand why one will harass a indie team over a game like i hope these people know that there dev team isn’t even close to any other triple A dev team out there they can’t just make such a large update in a week they are a small group trying there best to make a good non p2w game they are trying to make a genuine game with what they have.

If you've had the game for any amount of time, you've probably gotten your value out of it, full game or not, the game is really quite good even as a "Not full release" product, so I don't really see the issue
@@PatronSaintOfPigeonsI do, there's multiple features not currently in the game that have been promised for over ten years. To sell an update as DLC when NPCs, a feature from the very early days that was removed still hasn't been implemented? Or the promised expanded mod support? Or the optimization issues that will be fixed in the next update? Are you REALLY saying people should have to pay money to optimize their game? The game is unfinished, how many hours you get out of it is irrelevant. I have 3k hours in it and definitely got my money's worth, but if they were to dare call the game 'complete' and start releasing dlc as it is now, all trust would be broken between the long time fans and devs. Sure, new fans might not care, but I do.
@@TheDreargamer The entitlement is honestly off the charts. If you can get 3k hours in a game, then it is more than feature rich enough to call a complete product. yeah but they know what it was 4 YEARS ago (almost half the life span of the unfinished game) xD its not to much to ask for a yearly or bi yearly update schedule to get the game finished. when its finished they can start focusing on making new money with dlc or new game so its in everyones interest to get v1.0 out. and getting a yearly update out is not asking to much unless they go with the room full off monkeys approach.

Im certainly not advocating for harassing devs of the game we all love but I’m not a fan of this response personally. They have shown a major lack of communication which is the issue. If there’s a delay in the update, that’s fine. But tell people that in advance. Don’t say “it’s coming in June” then provide no update on the delay until June is over. Maybe you’d have less people harassing you with questions if you actually communicated delay and release times outside of responses to RUclips videos and Reddit threads. Just a thought. Also “just be happy we aren’t charging you per update” is kind of a low blow as well. It’s an unfinished game which we all love but it’s still an unfinished game. Updates come with the package of early access
Game is unfinished to the vision they have and want to provide, but is in a good enough state that it could be considered complete and released from early access. It's more functional than many other early access titles and other titles that have been released as finished products.
I paid $15 for Project Zomboid and have clocked around 6000 hours. IS can take all the time they like pushing the next build as I try out a few more mods and maps.

Them trying to say they could charge for updates as if they were dlc… do they not remember what happened to the Tarkov devs? That honestly just makes them look bad. The problem most people have is how long the updates take, smaller and more frequent updates would go along way. It’s been 3 years already since b41 that’s honestly a bit ridiculous. Sure the excuse can be made that they’re a small team, but when compared to modders the indie stone team just seems slow or disorganized. Maybe it’s time to sacrifice that lackadaisical approach to work and set hardline schedules in the office. Also the team doesn’t do a great job at keeping things positive when they ban people for asking questions in the discord, just paints them in a bad light. Seen people get banned back when b41 released just for asking if a certain mod list worked, now people are getting banned just for asking on progress or updates on b42. IMO they’ve created this toxic environment by banning people left and right over such small things in the official discord. Don’t get me wrong tho, they can easily turn it around if they just do some actual crunch time and get an update out before it becomes 4 years since the last one. If you ask anyone why they aren’t playing PZ, who used to, they usually say it’s cause they’re waiting for b42, sooo… just makes sense for them to do crunch time to get it out already. Threatening the sell updates as dlc is disgusting and would likely have them sued for false advertising just like the tarkov devs. Furthermore they initially stated it would have been out this year by this time but they delayed it yet again.
As a game developer, I've had my fair share of criticism too. Ranging from civil DM's asking if I can squash a bug to people making it their life's mission to ruin anything I ever work on. I've quit developing for my current game for a year because it took a toll on my mental health Some updates feel like a personal attack to people. Others just don't like their safe space being walked in to. But those people need to realize that it's not their game, it's not their blood sweat and tears or countless sleepless nights that went in to it. I understand it's frustrating if you pay for something and your expectation isn't met, but that doesn't give you the right to treat someone as a sub-human. Just to clarify though, my games are even free to play. So that hurts a little more.
Bro they pull this EVERY time They should just sell so they have more time for their personal minecraft servers when they've reached Bethesda levels of modders doing their own work faster and better than them. Tired of these devs pulling this same excuse every single time they fail.
Istg people need to be more patient and let devs do their thing instead of harassing them, it’s the exact reason why cdpr released cyberpunk the way it was at launch and the reason it failed and the same people who harassed the devs complained how bad the game was, just be patient and let devs cook with their games
@@PytrStarlight it would be another abandoned early access game. I like aspects of it, but mod support has absolutely carried it since the vanilla game is just a ton of early game grind with nothing to do mid-late game once you've established a safe home with supplies. I like the animals and farming but am not crazy about changes to make things more grindy and make combat harder by nerfing effective tactics while reducing variety.
Typically, I am willing to give developers the benefit of the doubt. I am not a game developer, I’m not capable of producing content such as this, a game that I greatly enjoy. Literally the most realistic zombie apocalypse game on the market. But it is absolutely unacceptable, childish, and completely baffling to me, that a game developer is able to act this way. Go ahead, sell IP. Do you want to threaten us? That is a shore fire way to turn the community against you extremely fast. This is one of my favorite games, but it has been getting on my nerves quite a lot recently. There is a lot that needs fixing, there is a lot of issues, these issues are well known, And at times it can be borderline unplayable. There have been periods of times where I had to step away from the game for months at a time, because the issues were simply tremendous. Nine out of 10 times this game works, but when it doesn’t, it doesn’t. You want to keep an open dialogue with people, well open your eyes and face the facts; people are going to talk sometimes. As a developer, you should not be picking and choosing what you want to see, cherry picking only the happy content that is going to make you feel good. The fact is, criticism kind of hurts sometimes. And who cares, you are making a game that is going to be worth multiple millions if it’s not already. But going on regular rants because your mental health is not OK, might simply mean you need to see a therapist. To me, it’s rather pussy, blaming this on your mental health. And then proceeding to speak on a matter that you yourself are ill informed on. The fact of the matter is, like any single game, there wouldn’t be a game without the community. And, this is a community that wholeheartedly loves this game. Best not disrespect it. Perhaps game development isn’t your speciality or expertise, if you cannot handle a little bit of criticism. And even the stuff that is not criticism, the stuff that is blatant disrespect. You are grown ass men with a multi million dollar game, popularity, setting rather unrealistic expectations. Tell us it’s going to take a while, plain and simple. We accept that. Doesn’t mean to stop communicating, that doesn’t mean delete all of your profiles like you are some high school teenage girl. Do what everyone else does, ignore it. Period. Just because you were making a game that people like, doesn’t mean everybody is going to hold your hand. If you surround yourself with yes men, and read only comments that boost your little ego, you’re going to be sorely hurt when the time comes that you make the stupid mistake of selling what was once a hobby to you.
Yeah, as a backer since the beginning I couldn't agree more. It's become a longstanding pattern of disappointment, blame, and running away. Whatever I guess, I stopped playing it years ago. I only see videos about it by accident these days. Don't want to be misconstrued, the game has got potential, but that's all it is without the actual content, potential. I still do not have the game I was sold. I've never heard of a game with a timeline like that. They have made millions and millions of dollars. They could have made this happen. I'd love to see what house Lemmy lives in and what car he drives.
@@blindmown like honestly, I will argue that if you haven’t played for years, it’s a net loss. The game is utterly fantastic, and is exactly what I’m looking for in this type of zombie genre. Anywhere from an average Joe, to a Spec Opps operative, you’re going to get an amazing story either way. Despite everything, I’m still willing to suggest the game like this. It’s honestly that solid to me. But as someone who used to think that the developers could really do no wrong BECAUSE they were making my dream game, I’ve had my eyes opened as of late. I still honestly suggest, indulging in some really creative and unique runs.
They should just kick the game from early access to finished product and wash their hands of it so entitled man-babies who go on these types of tirades and call them pussies for getting tired of harassment can go and cry in their spilled milk. They won't be making much more money from the product anyway as most everyone who will play the game already does so.
Girl, then sell it. Im sorry but these devs have been at it for over a decade atp, everyone and their mother knows it takes them forever to push out even the most minute updates. I think the community acknowledgeding that next to yet another missed update timeframe isnt the worst thing to ever happen. Their game has flourished DESPITE their horrific update schedule, which im sure consistently drives new players away. Im sorry for any hate they get, thats unreasonable and ridiculous of course, but I think this is a little "woe is me" for my taste.
Lemmy needs to practice stoicism and just try to use feedback more responsibly. This community isn't a DEV hugbox like the 7DTD forums where you get banned for giving honest feedback. If someone's rude and you react to it, that is on you. No one controls your emotional responses.
A lot of the best artists are very deeply unwell, unstable people. Indie games made out of passion rather than a profit motive are a gamble. Either you get Terraria, or you get... whatever's happening with Project Zomboid.

Hey, you don't want people to complain about you missing a release date? Don't give them a release date. Honestly, I think developers in general need to shut up about things until they're done. Learn from the disaster that was Cyberpunk 2077's release.
Lemmy does this every bug update, he pulls the "I'll sell the IP" gaslight trick every few years, deletes his social media, then is back on in like 16 hours arguing with people. Things are fine, there's no need to overdramatize it
True peeps are just incapacitated on actually using there critical thinkig like if you literally promise and promote that your ginan release your game on this specific time or date then dont be shocked when the fans get frustrated and troubled when you fail to deliver that for a demonstration let's say you promised that this specific device has the most statebof the art technology it currently possess but once you actually obtain it's not as promised and the software and all needs to made before its released who wouldn't be in arms when they deceitfully advertise a product so yeah just my two cents.
Real PZ gamers play a bunch, disappear to play Starsector, Rimworld etc and comeback to scratch the itch or when they finally notice the game has an update, but they might not even play a new update when its released due to lack of mods
I try not to go on the Steam forums and give links to Lemmy's old zomboid blogposts when it was literally called "lemmyblog." He's said plenty of stupid similar things in the past and all these new people are none the wiser. I'd be banned instantly lol

Nah you’re perfectly fine for wondering why a game has been early access for 10 years. The devs are just lazy since they made their money no reason to actually finish the game
Don’t feel bad it’s like the wicked actress getting mad someone recreated the original poster. Don’t put yourself in the spotlight if you can’t handle that about half the world is gonna judge you every step. Now sub half the world for half the people playing the game and of course there’s gonna be complaints😂 but if he wants to threaten to sell he shouldn’t be in charge
On the other hand, the devs haven't communicated clearly, and could have provided better clarity at any time. And now saying they thought about selling the game/charge dlc? Feels like emotional blackmail. They should have clearly said beta this year, full release some time next year and set the record straight.
The devs have communicated fine. We get a lot of blog posts that go into detail about the development. They aren't saying it was planned to sell it as DLC. It was a comment made by a single developer who is upset with the lack of patience in the community. They are saying that other devs might sell the Build 42 update as DLC and make a lot of money, but this small indie studio isn't doing that because they care about their game and fans. Read before you assume things.
@@great1307I guarantee you that they don't want to sell the game. They're just frustrated and saying things in the heat of the moment. Even if they did get an offer, they most likely would not sell. This game clearly means someone huge to them.
Not gonna lie, that kind of response turns me off from this game. I own it, but haven't played it in ages. Haven't been keeping up with the updates. Just been quietly playing other games while I wait. But now? This gaslighting and threatening response? Excuse me?? There will ALWAYS be toxic people who try to rush devs or come in with the negativity. And there's also a handy block/ban button! I really do not appreciate the community as a whole being lumped together.
Womp womp maybe they should do their job better instead of whining since they’ve practically sat on their asses for several years repeating that an update is coming, and have made no real progress on said update so gee I wonder why people are tired of their excuses. At this point the game would be in better hands with the modders than the actual dev team.
No offense to modders, but NPCs, a feature that’s been talked about for a while - modders created it, Superb Survivors, and it crashes the game nonstop where all of your survivors will be deleted and has numerous other issues. No, it wouldn’t be better.
Comments like this are so stupid, saying what you think isn't the same thing as speaking facts and you're just wrong. "sat on their asses" and "no real progress" . Honestly just a moron, basically told me you don't know a thing about coding, without actually saying it.
This game attracts some of the most demanding players. If anyone ever hosted a server, you would understand how toxic some people are. Hopefully, developers won't let these people get to them.
Some criticism are valid, on how the team should communicate expectations and deadlines more effectively and have less on their plate. Then again, none of us here develop games, so we have no idea how difficult it is to do som

There's a distinction between saying what you said, respectfully pointing out your disappointment, and between harassing and shittalking the devs. Some people have bad time management. You don't have to give them depression for it.
To charge for a dlc you first have to FINISH THE GAME. This game is still early access after 10+ years... Some of us were here when the game had NPCs, and we have been asking for them ever since, b42 was suposed to be the "earlyNPC" update, and its been 2 years since they started talking about it. Hey silly shit, you're a good example of what they're talking about. Knew all I had to do was scroll down a couple times. Development is hard. And they CAN charge this all as paid DLC, because it's downloadable content onto early access. You can't claim you paid supremely low prices for 10 years of content of early access and deserve all that work free of charge. The developers have been kind enough to put out continuous support and updates, albeit slowly, towards the community, and demanding things immediately or harassing them for a feature that is rather hard to actually produce, (doubt you'd know that) isn't helping anyone. Wait patiently and be happy you have a dev team still working on the game. This is a long time project.
(as a bonus: a ton of game studios will sell out over less and without warning if given a high enough bid. He can drop the game at any point cuz it'll line his pockets IP will be sucked for its profits, and shut down once it has a maintenance cost)
@@theparadoxisbored6622 I know development is hard dude, however, you also need to reach the milestones you promise in the times you promise them. That's how it works... I've bought the game multiple times (for me and for friends) on the promise that I would have a fully completed game with certain features, for me, one of the most important ones is NPC's, which I've been waiting patiently for 10 years, hell, it IS the MOST ASKED ABOUT FEATURE, meaning, A LOT OF PPL WANT THEM. They haven't been ''kind enough'' they have promised features which now they should deliver, either that, or don't release the game on early access. If they wanted to not be accountable, they should've developed the game to a point where they consider it done, realease it and not promise anything else, and know what? that's valid! Because then I would have bought it knowing ''that was that''. I will be happy once what was promised, actually releases, this ain't the first game to promise something and not deliver it, a lot of dev studios promise things in early access, and then abandon the IP, mid development, just because, so no, they don't get a free pass after they constantly breach their own promises and deadlines and b*tch about ppl being ''inpatient'' for not wanting to wait another decade for something that was promised in early dev. The comunity is not demanding things be delivered ''immediately'' (at least not us, that have been part of the comunity for a decade now) it's been 10 years bro! Multiple promises and deadlines! It's not like they announced NPC's 2 months ago. Wanna know which early access game has NPC's that actually work pretty well for what it is? Dread Dawn... (called by a bunch of ppl as the ''new project zomboid'') A Game that poped up in march 2023 as an idea and released as an early access september 2024, they have NPC's, they have huge hordes, a huge map, questing, item crafting, base defense mechanics, survival aspects... Also, I'm not one of the guys/gals going to their forums and threatening them or insulting them (That shit's just not okay in any way), I'm just a part of the old comunity that's not putting up with their bs no more, I'm possitive this game will never release NPCs and i'm just sad because I really wanted to see it be fully released.
Just reading the comments left under some of the mods in the workshop,I can't imagine how toxic the community as a whole entity would be towards the devs.
They need a PR person because their lead devs arguing on twitter all day long with people is only going to get them harassed further. And yes, it’s been a long damn time. No one is saying game development is easy or quick but they need to be straight up about what’s going on with their pace. Also tons of people in these comments have no idea what the difference between someone criticizing the game and harassing the devs is, like those are 2 seriously different things stop saying that criticizing the long wait is harassing the devs.
they should sell it. the notion that language is what's getting them down seems unrealistic. more-so a roundabout way to say that they don't want to continue developing the project.
Dang another game ill never play again. A developer whining about people being mean is pathetic. EVERY customer service worker deals with the same thing. If you are a dev and your mental health can't handle the negative criticism/harassment then dont read the comments, pay someone to find the actual constructive criticisms and bring them to you in a non negative way.
"You wanna stockpile food? Go ahead, it's your right. You wanna bear arms? I'm sitting on an ammo cache right now. You wanna harass a small dev team over a single update? Get the hell out of my country." --Judge Hatt Mass
Well this is what happens when things aren't clear The made a post that b42 would be out mid june They missed the deadline People have the right to be upset Best course of action, apologize for the inconvenience then carry on working Saying you are disappointed gets you nowhere But to clarify the devs are not lazy, they are a hard working team that loves thier project and crushing them for mistakes gets us nowhere either So to the people claiming lazyness and insulting devs Fuck you
So a better thing would be for the Devs to never tell the community anything and actually delay the release of new things for a few weeks for the hype after everything is already finished?
They seem to only be looking at the negative comments, since the subreddit for zomboid is actually pretty postive towards the devs, as the old saying goes "they gotta touch grass"
They missed the deadline on a HUGE update that they are giving us FOR FREE. The fact we are even getting more development on the game should be enough for people. They owe us NOTHING, and anything we do get is a privileged luxury, not a right. Go look at star wars. Would you prefer they followed that template, where build 42 would be a 40$ DLC?
My biggest issue is the fact that there are modders who are capable of doing in a few months what it’s taken this team to do in several years. Hell, there are even mods with decently stable NPCs and interactions. Are they perfect? Of course not, but it is disheartening to see an unpaid modding community seem to have more drive to add content than the developers themselves. Honestly, if it weren’t for the modders, the game would feel incredibly stale. Criticism of the timeline is okay. Harassing them is kind of gross, even if you are frustrated (as I am). At least we finally have a release to look forward to.
modders do not have to jump through the hoops the dev team does. its a false equivalency and youre a moron if you genuinely think a dev team is ever going to out develop a game with a dedicated modding community.
I’m actually fine with the way the game currently is. I rather wait till the devs are actually ready. I want their update to be full of love and truly passionate gameplay, not rushed and full of stress. That’s why all these other games come out shitty! I really hope they don’t sell the game..
They should sell the game. They are clearly either completely in over their heads or using the game as a grift to keep milking cash from people. No updates for years in a row. It's really unacceptable.
While I dont condone harassing the developers, we have been waiting years for these updates. The biggest ones people have been wanting are the crafting and the npc/animals. We have used mods for these, however buggy they are. We shouldn't be waiting 4-5 years for an update.
Mod developers aren't even releasing anything because they don't want their mods to break when the update drops. It's like an ouroborus of pressure for the community, yet alone the devs who have been dealing horribly with negative criticism since 2012.
As someone not even playing Project Zomboid but who played Victoria II a game a decade old that definitly didnt see any additional content for that long until Paradox interactive finally made Victoria III (bad quality of the game at launch aside its a Paradox issue). F off. If you cant wait 4-5 years. PLAY SOMETHING ELSE in the meantime like no insult meant or anything, but litteral. You are acting like Project Zomboid is the only game you would play in this time . We got litteral thousands of games popping up everyday, the offer vastly outweight the demand. Some spams update every other week, some could take a decade to remake part of the game. Blaming a small group of dev that could very well end up burnout anyway pressure or not because they are putting in alot of effort in a game and try not to optimise profit thus their personnal comfort for their players sake? No, just be patient, and if you cant then just keep an ear out for news and play something else.
@@erenmorrison yes, you should have. We are collectively mere weeks away from build 42. Unless you can put together a dev team who can do it faster, quit complaining.
They should sell to kenshi. They Are taking way too long just to barely keep up with CDDA. Modders have made up most features with ease, and not very buggy, and they think they could charge for these updates is insane! People will stop updating and keep the stable build number with working mods. Tbf, Elite Dangerous also gets negative reviews for slow releases, but the difference in scope between the two, causing one to be paid, and PZ being not for a reason. ED turns around and puts out huge community events in turn, meanwhile, PZ does nothing, but sit on broken mods, awaiting a more stable build... If they didn't want to sell, they would do something other than cry about how negative the Internet is.
Hey gamers, listen up: you cannot criticize AAA games for being too pricey while shoveling out repeated games every year WHILE ALSO criticizing indie devs for charging less for high quality content that just takes a bit longer to reach the public. Pick a side. Spend 80 bucks on Call of Duty each year, or buy PZ once and enjoy great new content every year?
we have been told to expect updates on these dates and when those dates come and go and we still have nothing to see of those updates....then yea im gonna be pissed
As someone that's been lurking around PZ since late 2013 it really hurts my heart to hear TIS have been receiving that severe and sheer amount of hate over this. I do think the whole release date mix up for Build 42 could have been handled better, but everyone makes the occasional gaff now and then and now way do they deserve to be hauled over the coals for it. Those members of the community need to do better or kindly eff off, all the way off, ad infinitum! Don't get me wrong I'm as excited and eager for this update as anyone, literally every devblog they release with info about the progress and features has me buzzing more than the last, you can tell from those same blogs that they recognising the mammoth nature of what they're trying to do and are doing their best to get something to us sooner rather than later, and I appreciate that to no end. Thanks for highlighting this, Mr Beaver, I hope TIS know there are just as many if not more of us (perhaps a more quiet majority) that love them and PZ to bits and respect what they're doing!
Sorry I can't "eff off" without my money. I'd be more than happy if I could. It's the money that's keeping this slow-drip IV keeping them comfy. TIS has a rocky past dealing with criticism going all the way back to at least 2012, that's nothing new. Everyone wants the game to be made, we're not just the "bad guys" or whatever you might think. But supporting this kind of development is going to give us another problem on-top of AAA devs ruining whatever they can get their hands on. Early access can make dreams come true, but when it starts to feel like a AAA dev slow-feeding you content through a live-service, we need to stop somewhere.

No matter which opinion you have on the developers or their product, be respectful - even if the product isn't what you hoped it to be.

Yeah, harassing people is bad but if you make a promise to have a beta by June this year and something goes wrong pushing it back then it's not harassment but criticism, theres a difference. It's now nearing the end of the year and still no word on the beta. I didn't mind waiting longer but I don't like how they decided to give an idle threat of selling the game or charging the updates as DLCs and has soured my opinion on the Devs.
The devs just need to hire on more staff and delegate. I normally empathize with indie game companies but Indie Stone has made 10s of millions of dollars off of zomboid to the point where they are not your small indie game company anymore. Money isnt the issue and they dont deserve the harassment. I do have to say that I love this game and what the devs have done with it, but the communities frustrations are valid.
It isn't as simple as hiring more staff. Millions don't go far for a company. Keep in mind they are paying for their work space, wages, upkeep/maintenance, there are a ton of fees. They might be able to hire a couple more staff, but that doesn't equal faster development as each person has a specialised field and things tend to go bad when they work outside of it. Also, it's worth noting that following the success of b41 they actually did hire more staff, specifically they hired modders from their own community. I do agree though, we should leave the I.S devs alone. Let them work without distraction so they can make a better product
They 100% do not deserve the hate and that makes absolute sense. The only things i personally hope they add before tey wrap up updating the game is playable pvp and npcs.
The more staff they hire, the less controlled the vision and direction of the game becomes. People paid those 10s of millions for the current product with the hopes for more, there never was any guarantee and Idk about you, but I got 1000X my money's worth out of what is already here. I expect the next build will give me another 200-300 hours worth, and that is worth a 5 year wait.
Crying about mental health and threatening to sell the game to some shitslop AAA studio is not going to win the fans over. Log off and get back to work
Also, a "free update" is something you get after a game is finished. This is just delivering on what we already paid for. That's how early access works.

I'm coming into this as someone who's only played like 12 hours. How the heck did the community decide to harass the indie devs, that's so counter productive
So in another 10 years time when the game is still in early access and requested and promised features are not forthcoming that's fine? Or if you buy a product with the promise of getting a finished result at the end should the developers be working towards that end with a transparent and realistic timeline?

No, the game was released unfinished, and can't take criticism. It's entirely childish to not expect this.
@@andrewellisonlee The game is titled as early access. Which means work in progress and unfinished. Your comment is invalid. Document yourself more before posting. I'm happy to have further discussions with you.
@@andrewellisonleecry about it
I dont think the average person actually understands how difficult it is to develop a game.
I really dont understand the big issue here
The big issue IS Lemmy and how he overreacts to everything, it will be the downfall of this game

@@crolaa6137 You have clearly no idea how stressful game development is, especially when you're working on a game for so long, makes you burned out pretty easily, and to top that all of you get to deal with impatient gamers threatening you.
You say that but every comment now and days on videos are about how build 42 is not coming or how gta 6 will come out first and so on and so forth too mock the slow development.

They can and have. The only question is time. Should they just say they aren’t working on anything unless they can pump it out in under 24 hours?
@@whothehellareweThey've quite literally never hit a release date. It's so common I just straight didn't believe them when they said June. They should stop setting release dates.
We get $h!t for trusting a game like "The Day Before" No one should be spared really and they should know the bad eggs the consumer has to deal with 24/7 in the industry.

1) indie stone (as the name implies) IS A SMALL TEAM, they have minimal funding, they dont have the best expertise and have their oen lives outside of this game
2) how often to bethesda and other games roll out updates? some games get updated 5-10 years after its released, and they are a multi-million comosny with financial and skilled benefactors and backers, and the fact zomboid is more stable then any of their games says something
3) the game itself is massive, and each updste is also very game changing and massive, buikd 42 is a prime example, due to hunting, blacksmithing MECHANICS, not tweaks, brand new mechanics and systems being integrated, aside from thet there are improvements, overhauls as well tweaks to old mechanics/systems
this itself is large enough to be qualified as DLC, and your whining about 3 years? after all the care, effort and shit they put in?
4) live dervuce games like fortnite and rainbow and whatever, when they roll out an update shit gets broken snd glitches and bugs get revealed and need ro be patched, but zomboid? next to none
because they take the time to make sure the game isnt a buggy mess or stuff is broken
5) if you give any other small dev team this game and tell them to do what indie are doing, 3 years would pass and i doubt the update would be ready, 5 hears coukd pass and tbe update is likely ready but buggy, 6 years and its finally done and stable
indie stone are incredibly fast for their funding, workforce and amount of work in the actual game

I get what the devs are saying, but selling the game or having build 42 be paid dlc is not going to cause any less hate, it would probably add fuel to the hate if anything
They dont actually want to sell, reading the full comment it seemed like venting.
But even if they did sell and it caused more hate, they wouldnt care anymore... since they sold the game and are no longer connected to it, atleast directly.
the dlc comment is to say "what we are doing is free, and yet there's still so much hate for it", and selling the game is "it would be nice to get rid of this hate even if we had to just clean our hands of the game for it", since most players will just go on to harass the new devs if it gets sold, how nice I know
The devs were never good with communicating to critisism. Bad or truthful. I've seen it countless of times over the span of 14 years. They suck at it. And need a PR asap.
That’s the point tho. This was their passion project but why keep working on something you love if all ur getting in return is hate.

@@jakatak744 first of all, please hold your anger. I did say that it's never fine to harass the developers. But you also need to remember one thing - Project Zomboid is not a finished product - it's labeled (by the producers themselves) as an early-access game. This means that, as you put it so harshly, the developers promise to 'give free shit' until the game is labaled as completed. After this, any other updates and developments can be (but doesn't have to - look at Stardew Valley for example!) treated as additional, paid content.

yeah but they know what it was 4 YEARS ago (almost half the life span of the unfinished game) xD its not to much to ask for a yearly or bi yearly update schedule to get the game finished. when its finished they can start focusing on making new money with dlc or new game so its in everyones interest to get v1.0 out. and getting a yearly update out is not asking to much unless they go with the room full off monkeys approach.
So they had to cut content to meet a deadline, still couldn't meet it, and now blame us for that. I get that b42 is gonna be a big update, but this is not how you handle it.

Reading his posts just makes me think that it’s a high schooler making this game with the lack of emotional control
On the other hand, the devs haven't communicated clearly, and could have provided better clarity at any time. And now saying they thought about selling the game/charge dlc? Feels like emotional blackmail. They should have clearly said beta this year, full release some time next year and set the record straight.
Well said.
They really were putting gasoline on a fire by saying that
It’s 100% an excuse to sell the game. I guarantee you they got an offer for a good amount of money.

Well this is what happens when things aren't clear
The made a post that b42 would be out mid june

People have the right to be upset
Best course of action, apologize for the inconvenience then carry on working
Saying you are disappointed gets you nowhere
But to clarify the devs are not lazy, they are a hard working team that loves thier project and crushing them for mistakes gets us nowhere either
So to the people claiming lazyness and insulting devs Fuck you
Yes. When the deadline isn't met, we have all the right to be upset. Hey, it rhymed.
the devs owe you nothing
This is so true
modders do not have to jump through the hoops the dev team does. its a false equivalency and youre a moron if you genuinely think a dev team is ever going to out develop a game with a dedicated modding community.

Mod developers aren't even releasing anything because they don't want their mods to break when the update drops. It's like an ouroborus of pressure for the community, yet alone the devs who have been dealing horribly with negative criticism since 2012.
