    Grew up in the station cottages at Thetford. Remember the station's large sidings, that if memory serves me, is now a housing estate. I must come back to the station some day and take a look and see how the old house is. My grandfather use to help passengers on the 3rd platform, which was use for the Watton line.

    Fun fact about Brief Encounter: Carnforth was chosen not just because it had plenty of trains passing through with not a great deal stopping, but because the access to the platforms is all ramped. You see the opening called for Celia Johnson's character to run for and then miss her train (leading to her titular brief encounter) and it was thought it would be unseemly and unladylike to make her run up stairs in skirt and heals.

    Great film Sarah. I hope they can do something with all those womderful old signal boxes, rather than leaving them to rot. Its good to see that railway architecture and heritage is finally being recognised.

    Also, hello, fellow LBGTQIA+ supporter, love a pride livery, doesn't matter if it's on a train, plane, bus, tram, always good to see the variety

    Another good film - better for being a little longer too. Your summation of Brief Encounter will of course make the time out film guide….it’s a beautiful film. Some of the architecture of the old station buildings you visit is well worth seeing - they seemed to pour so much care into their buildings it puts us to shame these days. Looking forward to more - well done!

    Interesting line having spent the last two months travelling between Leicester and Wymondham via Ely for work. Every Station is slightly different in character with a number of branch lines running off this line.

    A superb video Sarah!
    You seem to get better and better with each video and your confidence in what you do has grown a lot.
    43 minutes....your spoiling us!
    Liverpool to Norwich needs a couple of 222's on the service, not a two car unit.
    Anyway, that's my rant over!
    As always, a pleasure to watch. 👍🙂

      Thank you so much Ian! Really glad that you liked it! The video was supposed to be about 30 minutes max but somehow it turned into this! Definitely agree about the need for bigger trains on the Liverpool to Norwich route! As much as I love the 158s 2 cars simply isn't enough.

    Brilliant Sarah, Really do like Ely Station, remember watching it on Great British Railways Journeys that it was dubbed as 'Crewe of the Fens' It's a line I've travelled down on but never stopped at any stations along the way. Also that person was over the yellow line, in fact over the tact tile paving after watching that bit but totally agree with you Sarah, Yellow line is there for people's safety

    The Way Out sign at Wymondham pointed straight into a brick wall. Does it lead to the Hogwarts’ Express? Never mind - flappy plastic bins! Woo 🥳 lovely station though. Also,well done for pointing out the yellow lines and their purpose. As the signs at Penrith Station famously state: ‘ Keep back from the platform edge or you may get sucked off’ 😟 I’m so sorry 🤦‍♂️

    Wonderful video Sarah, I live in Cambridge and often travel that route and have got out at all these stations to visit museums or attractions there. Am sure you know there are also request stops Harling Road, Spooner Row, Lakenheath and Shippie Hill which are EXTREMELY challenging to visit! Thank you for revealing you are intersex at the end too, I am trans and love those pride trains. ❤

      Thank you! Glad you liked it! I think Shippea is going to be the absolute worst given its only one a day and its quite long walk to the nearest station with regular service (Littleport) with no pavements 😂 I'll get it done somehow though.
      I was so excited to see the colours in the design when it was sitting at the platform! Shame it wasn't heading to Norwich or I would've hopped on!

    • @Robkempfilms
      @Robkempfilms Год назад +2

      I’ve been to Shippea Hill twice, first time someone gave me a lift in a car and I just took photos (cheating). Second time I got the train at 7am from Cambridge, took my bike on the train and then cycled to Littleport to get home again. I’ve never done the others, I hope to do Harling Road this summer, I will get off and cycle to Thetford to get home - there is a ruined church you can see from the train between Thetford and Attleborough, I want to see that on the way. Love your videos, please carry on making them.

    lovely video! I was given the chance to go into Attleborough Signal Box but unfortunately the Attleborough Heritage Group (who own the Station Building, Signal Box, Goods Shed, Waiting Building on P2 and the small garden area) have not got the keys for it, so they are waiting for Network Rail to hand them over!

    Your driver also appreciates people standing back from the platform edge at all times, both passing and not, because people at the edge can make their pants slightly brown. I have driven metros and trains, and people at the platform edge is always uncomfortable.

    you can not beat a 170 - seeing where it comes from and going - back in 1999 to 200* the train to Aberystwyth via Birmingham New Street would start its journey at Great Yarmouth (sometimes Norwich) thus the train would do a coast to coast

    Please excuse my ignorance, but what is intersex? You mentioned it so I am assuming you are happy to explain.

    • @sarahwiththetrains
      @sarahwiththetrains  Год назад +6

      More than happy to explain! So intersex means someone who does not fit into the typical biological definitions of male or female. This could be genital, chromosome or hormonal differences (there are a lot of variations of what it means to be intersex!) sometimes this is noticeable at birth but sometimes doesn't become apparent until puberty doesn't happen in the expected way. Personally, I have something called Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome, which means my birth certificate says female but I was born with XY chromosomes and internal testes. My body doesn't react to testosterone (because of something on the X chromosome) so didn't develop the usual male bits but didn't develop a uterus etc either. Only discovered all this when I was 19 and hadn't started my periods. More than happy to answer any other questions.

    • @carlwilson1772
      @carlwilson1772 Год назад +4

      @@sarahwiththetrains Thank you for taking the time to explain that. I appreciate your patience and understanding. I was in no way attempting to be deliberately provocative or offensive by asking. I was only dimly aware that this condition existed and now I understand much better. It must have been a lot to come to terms with, discovering this about yourself at age 19. I think it is important to put oneself into another's place and try to understand what life is like for them, rather than to see things solely through the lens of our own lived experience. In my case that of a heterosexual male. That is why I asked about it. Thanks again.

      As a father of a gay son, LGBTQetc (sorry, it keeps changing) issues are something I am always willing to learn more about. Intersex is something I was not aware of before so thank you for the explanation. The important thing to me is to be a great person and you come across as a great person so, well done 👏😀 and as a train lover, I love the videos. I am familiar with this line so it was particularly interesting.
