I think a great idea for track gimmicks like the gliders and anti-gravity is making brand new tracks focused on driving ON water, like you got a path underwater but there's a panel or something that can make you drive on water and you choose which path to take. Love the vid btw
Really the only glaring problem with the retro track selection is Mushroom Bridge's inclusion. It's counterpart, Mushroom City, has yet to make a appearance in another mario kart game, unlike bridge where it reappeared in both DS and Tour
That characters roster looks great, but I would add some more to make a even Bigger and better roster like The Kongs, King K Rool, King Bob-Omb, Pianta, Toadsworth, Foreman Spike and two or three WarioWare characters (+DLC) And give all of the characters skins and outfits! Like Wedding Mario, Dr Luigi, Chef Peach, Captain Toad, Meowser
I have wanted Alt skins FOR YEARS! The fact they don't have them yet is ridiculous. Imagine the different Power-Up forms are different skins. Or other ones. Like Bowser Jr's bibs. Or Wario's various hats.
I actually had an item idea, based on CPU exclusive items from Super Mario Kart, both are trap items as I feel like we don't have a lot of items as "obstacles". First is a Poison mushroom, visually similar yet distinct from the Mushroom item, it's rare, but once placed, it stays idly or could slowly crawl in the direction of oncoming racers, shrinking them on contact with the usual penalties from a Lightning Bolt, with the main difference being that you don't lose your current item from running into it. The second item, technically 2-in-1, is the Li'l Sparky/Hothead, based on the Fireball item Bowser could drop in SMK, it can be held out, causing it to revolve around the player, if it tanks a hit while it's a Li'l Sparky, it'll grow bigger into a Hothead, when placed, it acts as an obstacle, moving around in a circle (Fast if it's small, slower when it's large)
5:48 Make the Fake Item Box Roll a Random item "Effect" for example if you get Green Sheel then you're damaged with the Blue Sheel or the Fake Item Box steals you're item and throws it at you if you're hit by it. Those two new Fake Item Boxes and the Old one could have a different coloured Question Marks: White means normal, Gold means The first new Fake Item Box and Purple for the other new Fake Item Box
I feel like you can swap Professor E. Gadd for Dixie Kong as well as include Piranha Plant Pipeline from Tour as a retro course (since it missed MK8D). But otherwise, you have a great pitch.
The Mini Mushroom could also have its ability in NSMBW to run across the surface of water. A circumstantial ability that only works on mostly beach-themed tracks and one that doesn't work if you use it underwater or get stopped while on it? Perhaps. However, skidding over the water could make some unique shortcuts and allow you to dodge ground hazards like shells, bananas, or whatever stage hazard is under the surface since you would be effectively flying over the race track. I also had an idea for the Warp Whistle. An item that only appears for double digit placed racers that instantly warps them in somewhere viable randomly between the 3rd and 6th place racers. Far enough ahead to turn the game around if you're in last, but not something you could hold onto until last minute and place in the top 3.

Mario Kart Tour is considered the 9th entry and introduces A LOT of new ideas they're definitely using the next game like Reverse Tracks and Remix Tracks.
Hey about your gimmick... Sonic already did it. They were called the All-star moves and were different from character to character, specifically the first game cause Transformed has 2 types with 2 subcategories. Projectile which can can be homing or not homing and the burst which can last a while but can't be spammed or a short burst that can be spammed while in All-star mode.

I've thought for the while that the next gimmick could be a "course maker" mode. The turbo charges have potential too though! They might be easier to balance than karts and characters, because there's counterplay between them. I think one tool that could help in balancing the TCs would be every character having two versions of them: essentially a noob and pro version. That way a character can be appealing newcomers but also be viable in high level play.
Alright so I'm hung up on the roster a bit...yes Mk8d has a lot of characters but they also could have handled them better. What I'm thinking is characters like the babies, koopalings, and characters that are more of an Alt (Metals, Dry Bones/Bowser, Funky/DK) all be clumped into the same slot as unlockables. So you'd have: Mario-Tanooki-Metal Luigi Peach-Cat-Pink Gold Daisy Rosalina Pauline Yoshi (all colors) Birdo (all colors) Shy guy (all colors) Koopa-Dry Bones-Lakitu? Toad (5 colors) Toadette Baby Mario-Baby Luigi Baby Peach- B. Daisy-B. Rosa Wario Waluigi Bowser-Dry Bowser DK- Funky Bowser Jr-all Koopalings Plus newbies like E. Gadd, Prince Florian, and the Broodals (grouped together). And others like King Bob-Omb, Nabbit, Wiggler, Kamek, and the Hammer Bros (all varieties) could also be added with the extra space. Basically this would be a more polished MK8D roster. I agree that crossovers should be exclusive to DLC. Also these are mostly grouped based on models rather than stats. I also feel the retros should draw from tracks that haven't been remade ever. Or at least focus on them...there are exactly 41 tracks never remade (including Piranha Plant Pipeline from Tour) that should be considered first. As for the gimmick...loved the idea! Fun and brings back some strategy to playing certain characters!! I also like the idea of expanding on the BCP concept of the track changing every lap. I think it could be interesting to have tracks where the weather changes, floods, freezes,gets broken. Very fun!!!
Awesome video! One thing I would hope to see is honeybee hive from mk7 as a battle map and a honeyhive galaxy themed course to coincide with it (driving on walls of honey like bee mario would work well with the antigravity
My idea for the gimmick would be track morphing or taking a rift to new part and then rift back or something along those lines. maybe a connection to the wonder flower or changing the track as you go or for others.
Super glad the algorithm recommended this to me, very interesting stuff here. The turbo charge mechanic is very similar to something I came up with myself, but I really love how you implemented the meter building. One of my favorite parts of the video were all the designs of the karts being used. One of my biggest problems with Mario Kart 8 is that a lot of the karts looked pretty boring it was super cool to look at whatever neat little automobile the characters were driving throughout the vid, I really loved em all!

Something that really annoys me about the Mario sports and party games is that they don’t take advantage of how many characters the series has. We could get shroobs, Fawful and Dimentio as characters in Mario kart and people would freak out but instead we get fucking pink gold peach. One thing I actually will commend Mario Tenis ultra smash for is that they made a Sprixe princess playable. That’s pretty cool. Cappy hasn’t even gotten that treatment
I love the retro track picks, it just feels like the balancing is off. She'll Cup is first so it's supposed to have easier tracks, yet three of those tracks feel like they don't belong. Meanwhile Mushroom Bridge, a track that was originally in Mushroom Cup, is now in the second to last cup. If you did some rebalancing this would be absolutely fantastic!

The "Turbo Charge" idea is cool, but that's pretty much Chocobo GP and I don't see them ripping off the competition. Also call it recency bias, but now I really want a Concordia track where you glide from island to island.

@toxiquid that's understandable, nobody played it, that game's live service flopped hard and was discontinued within a year. It's a decent bargain bin kart racer, you could do a lot worse. Also now that I think about it, supers are also the main gimmick behind the Disney live service kart racer, but I don't know much about that one.

Item idea: Wonder flower! It appears more commonly then, say, a star, and has the effect of giving that player specifically more boost panels on the track and maybe even exclusive shortcuts. It's on a timer and it doesn't give you any sort of invincibility, but only you get to see and use the shortcuts and boosts. To everybody else, they'll just see a wonder flower floating over you.
Also, another idea: echo characters! Some characters, when selected, will give you the option to swap to another character who's identical in everything but visuals. Sorta like changing the colors of yoshis and shy guy's in mk8, but changing the model too. For example, birdo could have skedaddler from Mario wonder as an echo character, since they both have ths same ability of shooting a projectile from their face.

I think another good map idea would be instead of BOWSERS castle, it was a personal play track for BOWSER JR. set in his big playroom like bowsers old playroom from yoshis island
The next Mario Kart is going to introduce boats and planes. This will give more opportunities for references such as Wave Racer, and give the player more control with their Kart in Plane/Boat mode instead of having to glide. As the boats and planes can have different behaviors and stats. The segments will be short to maintain the "Kart" in Mario Kart but there are still a lot more ideas to explore. Your video is good but all you're doing is just polishing MK8 while not really inventing a new MK game. I do like the super power idea, and maybe Nintendo can even use the Wonder Seed idea to transform tracks mid-race.
Boats and planes do feel like some form of logical next step, but I felt that it was too easy of an evolution, to the point where I don’t think Nintendo would do that :P

Weird multiplayer game id like is a Relay Race. 2 or even 3 people per race, when your teammate finishes a lap you start the second. I'd would be a really nice mode for people with large skill gaps, would also be cool Online too

new video yay good concepts I do want more cups in the game, but id have it be 10 than 12. It also means we dont have to have as many retro courses so we dont use all of the remaining ones from older games so soon
If we're dealing with portals I think it would be awesome to have cross track races where a Portal will just appear and when a player gets into it it places portals in front of every other racer pulling them into a completely different track, putting them where they would be if they were racing on that new track but the racer who went through the portal gets sent a little further ahead.
Dang I have too many new Mario Kart ideas. One of the gimmicks i was thinking of was course based. Each course has dynamic features about them, you would race into action blocks and they'd do something to the environment or give you an ability tied to the track. They feel kinda like the action pieces with hot wheels sets, there maybe a shortcut that gets blocked off if someone hits a block on the outside of the cut, one could give you a grapple hook you swing from for that part of the course, one could make a building fall split second style. There's already hints of this like hitting the yoshi cloud causing the red bridge to appear
Gotta say, your Rainbow Road idea is the best one i've ever heard, make it a big final adventure to the finish line and celebrate the whole Mario Kart franchise with a magical final big bang! but replace DS RR with GCN
Wow, those are some actually some very interesting and unique idea. I wouldn't mind seeing a "Mario Kart Turbo Charged" especially since it would be an actual name instead of *insert console or number.* I think the lesser roster is balanced out by the Turbo Charge effect likely being unique for each character, the new tracks have some pretty stellar ideas (bonus points for not relying super heavily on explicitly referencing a Mario game for them) and that's a great selection of retros in very appropriate spots. If I had a couple nitpicks, Super Bell Subway seems a little harsh for Shell especially first and it would feel a little weird for the one SNES course to just be BC3 again even though I love BC3. I feel like we can at least make a shout to BC2. Those are the only 2 things I would bring up for this otherwise entertaining brainstorm.

I also see Nintendo going in the opposite direction of your idea, Making a Mario Kart game all about other Nintendo franchises, expanding the ideas of Mario Kart 8 and 8 Deluxe, basically making a Mario Kart Smash. I don't think every Mario multiplayer spin-off franchises are going to take the Smash Bros route, I don't think Mario Party or the sports games are going to do that, but Mario Kart is a game franchise that I can see going towards that direction.
Super Bell Subway starting the Shell cup and DK Mountain being in the middle makes no sense. Shouldn’t the Shell cup be the easiest cup? Other than that, solid predictions!
For new characters for DLC, add Captain Falcon. We have his car and his track. Let the man be in another racing game because he's in more fighting games than racing games(4 with F-Zero 99).

I really like the artstyle and editing done here edit: have you ever thought of making custom tracks? or getting someone in the custom track community to make some of these tracks? some of these track ideas I really like! I can imagine the shy guy cave one being a similar gimick to the tour tracks, but the transitions to different layouts between laps feeling less jarring and unnatural with the christals taking over the ugly red arrows edit 2: what if piranna plant cove was a crumbling ocean ruins, where peices of ruins block and reveal parts of the track, and the final lap, destroying A wall reveals the eel finally breaking through and swimming around. I think I'm a fan of the more mini story driven courses idea
If Nintendo was watching this, they would actually love that idea because I absolutely love the idea of a New Mario Kart with character specific abilities, new and returning maps that haven't been made/remade and so on.
I'm sorry to be that person but I don't think that your gimmick fits the kind of game Nintendo wants Mario Kart to be. They want to keep the game free of too complicated techniques or mechanics to keep the game accessible to everyone. It doesn't matter if they are young or adult players, new to the game or professionals or game-owners and their guests. For that to stay true the game needs to be easily explainable and your gimmick that introduces 30 new character-specific events just doesn't fit that very well. Personally I can't wait to get my hands on Mario Kart 9 and to start getting competitively good in the game, so personally I should like more complex systems being added to the game, but I don't. A big part why Mario Kart is so much fun for me is because it is accessible to everyone. That way I don't just play alone in my room with stragers but actually am able to play with all of my friends. I can flex on them and taunt them, but also teach them and race them. But if the game gets too complex I'd be scared that these people don't want to play it anymore when I bring it up. One last thing: Keeping Mario Kart simple doesn't mean that there shouldn't be a high skill ceiling. All of us know how ridiculously good you can get in this game and it should and will still be possible.
That’s a super fair sentiment; something that I neglected to mention in the video was the fact that the turbo charges are toggleable, ala final smash meter. And the goal with the turbo charges were to add perks more than anything haha

I have a similar gimmick where by collecting 10 coins you can press the Item button when the item thing is empty to “buy” a character exclusive item
The audacity to bring back Funky Stadium while cutting Funky Kong is a real Waluigi Pinball in MK7 moment

I've thought for the while that the next gimmick could be a "course maker" mode. The turbo charges have potential too though!
They might be easier to balance than karts and characters, because there's counterplay between them.
I think one tool that could help in balancing the TCs would be every character having two versions of them: essentially a noob and pro version. That way a character can be appealing newcomers but also be viable in high level play.

Alright so I'm hung up on the roster a bit...yes Mk8d has a lot of characters but they also could have handled them better. What I'm thinking is characters like the babies, koopalings, and characters that are more of an Alt (Metals, Dry Bones/Bowser, Funky/DK) all be clumped into the same slot as unlockables. So you'd have:

I agree that crossovers should be exclusive to DLC. Also these are mostly grouped based on models rather than stats.
I also feel the retros should draw from tracks that haven't been remade ever. Or at least focus on them...there are exactly 41 tracks never remade (including Piranha Plant Pipeline from Tour) that should be considered first.
As for the gimmick...loved the idea! Fun and brings back some strategy to playing certain characters!!
I also like the idea of expanding on the BCP concept of the track changing every lap. I think it could be interesting to have tracks where the weather changes, floods, freezes,gets broken. Very fun!!!
Awesome video! One thing I would hope to see is honeybee hive from mk7 as a battle map and a honeyhive galaxy themed course to coincide with it (driving on walls of honey like bee mario would work well with the antigravity

My idea for the gimmick would be track morphing or taking a rift to new part and then rift back or something along those lines. maybe a connection to the wonder flower or changing the track as you go or for others.
Super glad the algorithm recommended this to me, very interesting stuff here. The turbo charge mechanic is very similar to something I came up with myself, but I really love how you implemented the meter building.
One of my favorite parts of the video were all the designs of the karts being used. One of my biggest problems with Mario Kart 8 is that a lot of the karts looked pretty boring it was super cool to look at whatever neat little automobile the characters were driving throughout the vid, I really loved em all!

Something that really annoys me about the Mario sports and party games is that they don’t take advantage of how many characters the series has. We could get shroobs, Fawful and Dimentio as characters in Mario kart and people would freak out but instead we get fucking pink gold peach. One thing I actually will commend Mario Tenis ultra smash for is that they made a Sprixe princess playable. That’s pretty cool. Cappy hasn’t even gotten that treatment
I love the retro track picks, it just feels like the balancing is off. She'll Cup is first so it's supposed to have easier tracks, yet three of those tracks feel like they don't belong. Meanwhile Mushroom Bridge, a track that was originally in Mushroom Cup, is now in the second to last cup. If you did some rebalancing this would be absolutely fantastic!

The "Turbo Charge" idea is cool, but that's pretty much Chocobo GP and I don't see them ripping off the competition.

@toxiquid that's understandable, nobody played it, that game's live service flopped hard and was discontinued within a year. It's a decent bargain bin kart racer, you could do a lot worse.
Also now that I think about it, supers are also the main gimmick behind the Disney live service kart racer, but I don't know much about that one.

Cool idea for a race track where at the start of the race a roulette will be spun and whatever it lands on will be the gimmick for that race
Item idea:
Wonder flower! It appears more commonly then, say, a star, and has the effect of giving that player specifically more boost panels on the track and maybe even exclusive shortcuts. It's on a timer and it doesn't give you any sort of invincibility, but only you get to see and use the shortcuts and boosts. To everybody else, they'll just see a wonder flower floating over you.
Also, another idea: echo characters! Some characters, when selected, will give you the option to swap to another character who's identical in everything but visuals. Sorta like changing the colors of yoshis and shy guy's in mk8, but changing the model too. For example, birdo could have skedaddler from Mario wonder as an echo character, since they both have ths same ability of shooting a projectile from their face.
I don’t get the koopaling hate. I feel they only got bashing was because of the metal variant. They were just the next inevitable target as *clones*

The next Mario Kart is going to introduce boats and planes. This will give more opportunities for references such as Wave Racer, and give the player more control with their Kart in Plane/Boat mode instead of having to glide. As the boats and planes can have different behaviors and stats. The segments will be short to maintain the "Kart" in Mario Kart but there are still a lot more ideas to explore.
Your video is good but all you're doing is just polishing MK8 while not really inventing a new MK game. I do like the super power idea, and maybe Nintendo can even use the Wonder Seed idea to transform tracks mid-race.
Boats and planes do feel like some form of logical next step, but I felt that it was too easy of an evolution, to the point where I don’t think Nintendo would do that :P

Weird multiplayer game id like is a Relay Race. 2 or even 3 people per race, when your teammate finishes a lap you start the second. I'd would be a really nice mode for people with large skill gaps, would also be cool Online too

I do want more cups in the game, but id have it be 10 than 12. It also means we dont have to have as many retro courses so we dont use all of the remaining ones from older games so soon
If we're dealing with portals I think it would be awesome to have cross track races where a Portal will just appear and when a player gets into it it places portals in front of every other racer pulling them into a completely different track, putting them where they would be if they were racing on that new track but the racer who went through the portal gets sent a little further ahead.
Dang I have too many new Mario Kart ideas. One of the gimmicks i was thinking of was course based. Each course has dynamic features about them, you would race into action blocks and they'd do something to the environment or give you an ability tied to the track. They feel kinda like the action pieces with hot wheels sets, there maybe a shortcut that gets blocked off if someone hits a block on the outside of the cut, one could give you a grapple hook you swing from for that part of the course, one could make a building fall split second style. There's already hints of this like hitting the yoshi cloud causing the red bridge to appear

Wow, those are some actually some very interesting and unique idea. I wouldn't mind seeing a "Mario Kart Turbo Charged" especially since it would be an actual name instead of *insert console or number.* I think the lesser roster is balanced out by the Turbo Charge effect likely being unique for each character, the new tracks have some pretty stellar ideas (bonus points for not relying super heavily on explicitly referencing a Mario game for them) and that's a great selection of retros in very appropriate spots. If I had a couple nitpicks, Super Bell Subway seems a little harsh for Shell especially first and it would feel a little weird for the one SNES course to just be BC3 again even though I love BC3. I feel like we can at least make a shout to BC2. Those are the only 2 things I would bring up for this otherwise entertaining brainstorm.

I also see Nintendo going in the opposite direction of your idea, Making a Mario Kart game all about other Nintendo franchises, expanding the ideas of Mario Kart 8 and 8 Deluxe, basically making a Mario Kart Smash.
I don't think every Mario multiplayer spin-off franchises are going to take the Smash Bros route, I don't think Mario Party or the sports games are going to do that, but Mario Kart is a game franchise that I can see going towards that direction.

edit: have you ever thought of making custom tracks? or getting someone in the custom track community to make some of these tracks? some of these track ideas I really like! I can imagine the shy guy cave one being a similar gimick to the tour tracks, but the transitions to different layouts between laps feeling less jarring and unnatural with the christals taking over the ugly red arrows
edit 2: what if piranna plant cove was a crumbling ocean ruins, where peices of ruins block and reveal parts of the track, and the final lap, destroying A wall reveals the eel finally breaking through and swimming around. I think I'm a fan of the more mini story driven courses idea

I'm sorry to be that person but I don't think that your gimmick fits the kind of game Nintendo wants Mario Kart to be. They want to keep the game free of too complicated techniques or mechanics to keep the game accessible to everyone. It doesn't matter if they are young or adult players, new to the game or professionals or game-owners and their guests. For that to stay true the game needs to be easily explainable and your gimmick that introduces 30 new character-specific events just doesn't fit that very well.
Personally I can't wait to get my hands on Mario Kart 9 and to start getting competitively good in the game, so personally I should like more complex systems being added to the game, but I don't. A big part why Mario Kart is so much fun for me is because it is accessible to everyone. That way I don't just play alone in my room with stragers but actually am able to play with all of my friends. I can flex on them and taunt them, but also teach them and race them. But if the game gets too complex I'd be scared that these people don't want to play it anymore when I bring it up.
One last thing: Keeping Mario Kart simple doesn't mean that there shouldn't be a high skill ceiling. All of us know how ridiculously good you can get in this game and it should and will still be possible.
That’s a super fair sentiment; something that I neglected to mention in the video was the fact that the turbo charges are toggleable, ala final smash meter. And the goal with the turbo charges were to add perks more than anything haha
