That looks just like The Bore, a tidal wave on the River Severn in Gloucestershire, England. There are smaller bores on the Wye (and Mersey IIRC), and a few other rivers around the world. One minute you have mud flats at low tide, then in comes the tidal wave - except that it's not a wave - it's the steep front of the tidal race propagating up the river and reversing its flow, so there is no trough behind it. The river level just keeps going up until high tide... and it's violent. The Severn may have had a tsunami on 30th January 1606 from a submarine landslip, although a storm surge could have been to blame. Some people were depicted as surviving in church towers. Tributaries of the Wye also reverse flow as flood peaks on the river approach them. The effect is spookily unnatural.

The bridge is on the Cane haul road to the sugar mill . You can see the smokestack in the mountain shots. The muddy bay is where Kaukonahua Stream and Opoae’ula Steam combines. It’s almost always this muddy because the water is a combination of runoff from the rainforest and farm fields, “Dole plantation and independent”

Well, to be fair, the leading edge of a tsunami entering an estuary is generally going to look very like a tidal bore, because the wavelength is long enough to approximate an accelerated tide.
There was a warning many hours in advance. The largest waves hit Hawaii before dawn. By the time this video was taken, the warnings had been lifted, but there were still small effects going on, as this video shows.
vlandsponger - I live here also, and feel you should have made the title, "Tsunami Hits Hawaii". The title you put makes it sound like it could have been a tsunami that happened because of something that was on Hawaii.
There is always the potential for a tsunami in Hawaii, from earthquakes that happen all around the Pacific Ocean as well as in the Hawaiian Islands themselves. The eruptions in 2018 didn't have any effect on large earthquakes elsewhere in the Pacific, and in fact no tsunami occurred in Hawaii that year.
Yeah they do look like regular waves but when the wave does come back in it will be series of waves following the first wave then recedes back and pushes forward again. We where lucky these where small waves. Some parts had bigger waves than this.

Tsunamis tend to lose some of they're strength when they are crossing an ocean, not all tsunamis are high like you see in the movies, they can come in as a 1ft surge of water that is quite powerful and keep on rising, since the Japan quake was only a 9.0 magnitude except for Japan which was obviously extremely affected by the tsunamis due to being so close to the epicenter, the waves moving across a vast distance can lose some of its power but still be strong enough to break boats from they're moorings, even trying to operate a boat in a tsunami surge of low height can be very difficult, also much depends on the topography of your coastline,a swimmer would not be strong enough to fight even a low wave tsunami like what we are seeing in this video,it may be a low wave, but doesn't make it any less powerful, also waves come in a series that can be hours apart and the first one may be just a low surge of water, whereas the 2nd,3rd or even 4th wave could be the most dangerous, just because it doesn't look it doesn't mean its nothing to be concerned about.
1 1 No. This was apparently THE Devastating Tsunami that hit Japan in March of 2011 and killed app. 20,000 people.
