    That looks just like The Bore, a tidal wave on the River Severn in Gloucestershire, England. There are smaller bores on the Wye (and Mersey IIRC), and a few other rivers around the world.
    One minute you have mud flats at low tide, then in comes the tidal wave - except that it's not a wave - it's the steep front of the tidal race propagating up the river and reversing its flow, so there is no trough behind it. The river level just keeps going up until high tide... and it's violent.
    The Severn may have had a tsunami on 30th January 1606 from a submarine landslip, although a storm surge could have been to blame. Some people were depicted as surviving in church towers.
    Tributaries of the Wye also reverse flow as flood peaks on the river approach them. The effect is spookily unnatural.

      Ya I think you're right that it was caused by the 9.0 earthquake off the coast of japan that spawned that big tsunami. The japan tsunami actually reached around the entire earth and affected every ocean in the world but by the time it reached Hawaii it lost a lot of its energy. All the videos of the japan tsunami that hit Hawaii look very similar to this waves size.

      The bridge is on the Cane haul road to the sugar mill . You can see the smokestack in the mountain shots. The muddy bay is where Kaukonahua Stream and Opoae’ula Steam combines. It’s almost always this muddy because the water is a combination of runoff from the rainforest and farm fields, “Dole plantation and independent”

      There is always the potential for a tsunami in Hawaii, from earthquakes that happen all around the Pacific Ocean as well as in the Hawaiian Islands themselves. The eruptions in 2018 didn't have any effect on large earthquakes elsewhere in the Pacific, and in fact no tsunami occurred in Hawaii that year.

      Tsunamis tend to lose some of they're strength when they are crossing an ocean,not all tsunamis are high like you see in the movies,they can come in as a 1ft surge of water that is quite powerful and keep on rising,since the Japan quake was only a 9.0 magnitude except for Japan which was obviously extremely affected by the tsunamis due to being so close to the epicenter,the waves moving across a vast distance can lose some of its power but still be strong enough to break boats from they're moorings,even trying to operate a boat in a tsunami surge of low height can be very difficult,also much depends on the topography of your coastline,a swimmer would not be strong enough to fight even a low wave tsunami like what we are seeing in this video,it may be a low wave,but doesn't make it any less powerful,also waves come in a series that can be hours apart and the first one may be just a low surge of water,whereas the 2nd,3rd or even 4th wave could be the most dangerous,just because it doesn't look it doesn't mean its nothing to be concerned about.

    That's not a Tsunami that's a tidal bore, you get them annually on rivers all over the UK , the Mersey, the Severn... a Tsunami is not caused by the moon.

  • @bartondennison9675

    It is beyond me why people in Hawaii and California had the nerve to show their piddly "live coverage" or "footage" videos
    of the March 3, 2011 Japanese earthquake impact on either state.
    PEOPLE......Japan SUFFERED tsunamis. Hawaii and California, you guys had mild water level disturbances.

    • @Plantified
      @Plantified 6 лет назад +2

      It is interesting to see how it affected elsewhere!
      It doesn't have to be mass destruction to be worth seeing.

    • @hebneh
      @hebneh 5 лет назад +2

      Nope, not just "mild water level disturbances". Actual destruction and significant damage occurred in both Hawaii and California, but with the advantage of hours of warning in advance. And simply because, in this particular case, the effects were not as terrible as what happened in Japan hardly means any video of a tsunami elsewhere is somehow irrelevant. These waves traveled the entire width of the Pacific Ocean! Documenting them is necessary.

      +Silver Jordan X The difference is what's causing it, not what it looks like. High tide is caused by the moon. Tsunamis are caused by earthquakes, landslides and similar events.

    • @faithrada
      @faithrada 6 лет назад +1

      ziiofswe Exactly. This happened on 3/11/11. The day that Japan had a 9.0 earthquake. Scientists have claimed it was so powerful it actually slowed (albeit miniscule) the rotation of the earth.
      This is NO "High Tide".. but reminence of that Tsunami.

    Think you will find this was a "tidal bore". At no time did it effect the bank structure so it had clearly been considered when the banks were reinforced

    • @andrewc0128
      @andrewc0128 4 года назад +4

      Check the date braddah. It was posted 1 day after the 9.0 Great Tohoku earthquake that hit Japan, meaning that it took a while for the tsunami to reach Hawaii, get recorded and uploaded here.

      You're wasting your time posting a hate comment on a video while you should probably spend your time doing something more useful, such as learning the difference between "waist" and "waste". A "waist" is a part of your body located right at the hip while "waste" can have multiple meanings, but mostly used to mean time spent doing pointless things or carelessly spending too much money or throwing materials into the trash, which becomes waste.
