My papa was Lt. Lloyd Palmer and went into the water the day HMAS Armidale sank. But for the supreme act of heroism Teddy showed I may have never been born. As the sun goes down and in the morning, we will remember them. Lest we forget
My dad, Ken McKoy, was one of the survivors, and today, 3rd of Dec, I visited and spoke to the last survivor who is still with us, Ray Leonard, 94 years young, such a wonderful wonderful man, as I left I thanked him for what he had done for us and his country, I gave him a hug, wished him well and safe sailing. moments like this are sobering and humbling.
the fact TEDDY SHEEAN was never awarded any kind of medal (he deserves a VC) is a BLOODY DISGRACE , as a ex-serviceman (RAR) i find the actions of the Australian government , nothing short of DISGRACEFUL , Teddy freely gave his life to protect his shipmates , no greater gift can be given than that , REST IN PEACE TEDDY you will not be forgotten , LEST WE FORGET
true mate he was the first seaman to have a ship named after him , I still believe he deserves a VC , and i'm ex army , what he did would have got him something if he had been in the army
I find it incredulous that he has never been awarded the Victoria Cross (VC) since the award is usually given to persons who, in the presence of the enemy, display the most conspicuous gallantry; a daring or pre-eminent act of valour or self-sacrifice; or extreme devotion to duty. Which given the actions of Teddy Sheean would meet each of those six (6) points. But what can you expect given the Government's treatment of Vietnam veterans who were denied proper recognition for their action in particular the battle of Long Tan. It would be interesting to see the actual after action report to see what was actually reported and what recommendation was actual made by the senior surviving naval rating from the ships company, as a Mentioned in Dispatches (MiD), seems woefully inadequate for this action. At a minimum he should have been recommended for a Conspicuous Gallantry Medal (CGM)
Sad that his family and him posthumously had to wait till 2020 to finally be given what he rightfully deserved to receive after his ship went down. I also heard he shot a zero down while he was underwater.
Wonderful news today - Queen Elizabeth has approved a VC for Teddy! Australians all let us rejoice!
This man needs a movie made about him
