when do we know we multipy by 1/3 and 2/3 is confusing

Are you referring to the centroid of a triangle or area of a parabolic spandrel and parabolic segment? If centroid, you must know the reference. If it's the area, then 1/3 for a spandrel and 2/3 for a segment.
