Thanks, and I agree about the intro - it just amazes me every time. No Moeller thing for me; I wish I could do that stuff. It's about time I posted another version of this; I still practice it all the time and am chipping away at it.
bellbrass Good stuff. I'm a huge Jim Gordon fan, have been for a long time. I'm obsessed with his playing and his sound. Those santa Monica's sound great btw. Very similar to jims oak lawn tuning with D&B in particular.
I'm also obsessed with his playing and sound. In fact, I just got a Chanute Camco kit a few months ago, and I'm getting ready to post some new stuff using that kit. I'm 95% to what Jim had back then, sound-wise. All I'm missing is a 60s Zildjian K and some hats. His tuning was very consistent, and I can get a lot closer with the Camcos.
bellbrass Its so hard to find info on his gear, ive heard his ride was 20in A but it really sounds like a turkish K with 14 K hats. Is that what youre thinking?
He definitely had a Zildjian 20", probably mid-60s, but the jury is out on whether it was a Turkish K or not. I'm thinking it was, but it had a lot of cut as well as dryness. It was a one-of-a-kind for sure, and he was bummed when it finally cracked. I'm thinking it was about 1850-1950 grams. Hats were likely Zildjian US 13".
Hey! Just came from your "Christmas is Coming" video. Quality videos you got here. My favorite song from the Vince Guaraldi trio peanuts album is "Skating". Could you cover it?
Thank you. I tried to learn "Skating" back when I did those Guaraldi covers...it proved too much for me then, but I will revisit and see what I can do. The brush work is excellent on that song.
Excellent playing tuning recording etc on this classic JBG track. Thank you for doing this!
Thanks again! I always come back to the Dominos and JBG.
i find myself returning to this often
Thank you. I still practice this all the time.
JUST EXCELLENT MAN!
Thank you!
This is awesome :) Kudos and thanks, bellbrass.
Thanks! Glad you liked it.
Jim Gordon, RIP.
Very nice job. Probably the best drum intro of all time. Great job with the 16ths on the ride. Are you doing a moeller thing?
