Sir, my probable answers are-(A) Shakespeare, who was a great playwright, wrote "Othello"(B) Shakespeare, who wrote "Othello",was a great playwright.(C) Shakespeare was a great playwright wro wrote "Othello". Sir, are all the answers grammatically correct.Sir,do please let me know which sentence i would use as Principal Clause and which one as Subordinate Clause.Sir, would the option(C) be the correct answer from the grammatical point of view? Do please share your take on these nuances.

Thanks a million for the great step by step lesson plan. Martin I have a student who puts a relative clause after the wrong word. I mean she confuses the place of the relative clause and makes wrong referencing. Do you have any materials to deal with this difficulty?
I am so happy you find this lesson useful. In regards to a student putting words in the wrong order, I would suggest breaking down the grammar with an example sentence and then eliciting each component (i.e. Subject + Verb + etc.). Once learners are fully aware of the structure, give them an exercise where words have been jumbled up and they have to place all words in the correct order. For example: doctor / a / who / hospital / A / works / someone / is / in = "A doctor is someone who works in a hospital".
I hope this gives you some idea for a possible lesson to review sentence structure regardless the grammar focus.

I do have a question about teaching relative clauses. In prescriptivist grammar, if there is a preposition that the relative pronoun is an object of, you insert that preposition behind "whom". However, that's not reflective of how people speak nowadays, and an argument could be made that it never really was. Would you teach that rule? I would feel awful if I said that it's perfectly okay for a preposition to be stranded only for a learner to take a test and be marked incorrect. Does that happen? Would I really have anything to worry about? Thanks!
