Jodi Benson was the original voice who has been nothing but supportive of Halle. Also Alan Menken the composer for the animated Little Mermaid wanted Halle to sing an octave above, the Broadway version, cause he knew she could.
Meh, it was big and "beautiful", sure, but honestly I didn't feel the same amount of emotions from the original. Like they were trying to be big and spectacular and forgot to convey the actual feelings. We're talking about a girl torn between worlds, who begins full of passion and desire to go and be "part of that world", but ultimately crashes heartbroken by the knowledge that it's impossible, and thus always has this internal struggle. This sounded like a performance, a brilliant one, but still just a performance and nothing more.
@@broEye1 Yes. It does not convey the emotion or the character at all. It sounds like someone with a lovely voice singing a song. But it feels empty. This song is supposed to play such an important role in this movie and convey so much. 😢
@@honks9484 Well, to each their own. I mean, sure a good "performance" can give you a strong feeling, but it doesn't necessarily *convey* a feeling. I could feel plenty listening to that performance on the radio, it's definitely beautiful, but hearing that in the theatre I wouldn't for a moment buy that Ariel herself is feeling any kind of pain or longing, or really anything.

Nah I was so anti Melissa McCarthy being Ursula because Ursula is no joke… but this trailer along with some of her more serious roles has given me faith that… maybe she can smash it! I really hope she does coz Ursula is a don 😂 Halle is gonna kill the vocals. I can’t wait to listen to the soundtrack on repeat 👏🏾👏🏾😂
People can complain about this movie all they want about Melissa McCarthy or Ariel's race but I do believe Halle Bailey's voice will shut all those people up.
It shows the difference of treatment of the woman in the current productions, we have the power where we had the fragility. It is very well sung and very pretty, is it true to the character? Why not.
Melissa is probably the best candidate for Ursula, i can't think of any other person. And i like this rendition of part of your world reprise than the main song.
She also has to go up the octave because they also changed the notes for “someday I’ll BEEEE” sort of like the Broadway version. It won’t make sense for her to not go up the octave now that she made the “be” higher.
I love how they kept the old voice actress/actor of Ariel in the movie and she was the one who gave the fork to Halle who is now the actress/actor for Ariel.. I love it. Amazing.
After squinting at my reflection during most of the (TOO DAMN DARK) trailer...I think Halley Bailey still looks like the best part of the film. What a lovely and talented young woman, I expect we'll see great things from her in the future.
Have you reacted to Halle singing Can you feel the love tonight for the Disney anniversary special? It was amazing and I’d love it if you haven’t yet 🤍
Die hard fans of the animated movie would be able to tell that this whole trailer was an almost shot for shot copy of the original animated trailer. Just slightly disappointed that you didn’t see them. But you’re right, you’re a vocal coach, so your emphasis for this clip breakdown is about the vocals/singing.
King triton is being played by Javier Bardem not Jeffrey dean morgan. I don't know anything about the guy but I've heard hes good. For anyone curious about Sebastians actor its Daveed Diggs (thomas jefferson and Lafayette in hamilton) so i have hopes for under the sea.
goosebumbs CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! she's gonna be out of this world!!!!! and honestly i was super nervous when they announced that it was going to be Melissa McCarthy but after seeing the full trailer i actually think she's gonna be one of the "sleeper highlights" like fully prepared to hate it i bet im gonna leave the theatre and be like "woah she was Ursula"!!!!!
I have a feeling this is a reprise & that's why she went an octave higher to emphasize her determination. It would technically be the last time we would hear Ariel sing throughout the whole movie since she loses her voice so I think they're going to make it more dramatic im so excited to see it if this is true
The note is stretched to 12 seconds on every international trailer. The real sung one scores anyways a stunning 9 seconds (straight belt for 5½' and 3½' with a perfect vibrato). You should take a look on the french one, she's amazingly amazing 😂❤️
I thought that queen latifah should have played her but we got that in the abc little mermaid special but I'm excited to see her so her rendition.Halle is perfect for this role..her voice her look her energy is spooky and I can feel it in my heart ❤️
There is an amazing footage on RUclips of the original recording of Part of Your World with Jodi Benson and Howard Ashman. It shows Howard giving great direction to Jodi about the intent of the song and how to approach the song. I think you would love to watch and react to it.
Actually you need too to reacting and review Halle's Part of Your World ( not reprise ) when she's in underwater and that song is leaked, im litterally listen it and thats amazingg!!!
The part of your world in this trailer is the reprise, it is different to the original part of your world even in the animated version. The version they used in this movie is from the Broadway show.
Ursula should have been a Drag Queen, since the original design was inspired by the Drag Queen Divine. Imagine someone like Ginger Minj playing Ursula. She sings the song brilliantly.
I’m pretty sure that the octave up is in every version. Cause that section is from part of your world reprise which ends with an octave up at the end with that icon wave splash on the rock.
It's a change that was made in the Broadway version and kept for the live action, although Halle holds the note longer. In the animated version it didn't go the octave above.
I was super not into the teaser. I had quite the debate with people in the comments of your reaction of the teaser because people were saying I was probably just racist (even though the casting of Ariel wasn't my issue with the teaser). I'm happy to say that I think this trailer looks pretty promising and Halle's voice is absolutely stunning. I may've been convinced to see a live-action remake in theaters for the first time since Maleficent. It's between this and Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3
I heard that they have changed some of the words to "Kiss the girl." They dont want to put out the perception that he is forcing himself on her due to this "sensitive" generation finding problems with everything 🙄
I need to double check, but I'm fairly sure that the song being sung is from the reprise of Part of Your World. SImilar in style to Sierra Boggess performance of Ariel on Broadway with going the octive up.
Also let's not forget that Ursula is a 'big character' villain. So she needs to be comedic/larger than life as well as villainous. Character actors should be good at any over the top character. Also although it's a comedic movie, in 'Identitt Thief' she has some serious/raw acting in parts of it too.
Honestly i was really happy with Melissa McCarthy being casted and it seems like she'll kill it, really looking forward to this remake thanks for your video!!
remakes exist partly for a reintroduction to a new generation but also to renew the trademark so they don’t lose it It’s no different than our ancestors passing down campfire stories with details of that story being changed overtime That’s what remakes/reboots/sequels are campfire stories being passed down by our ancestors from generation to generation with details being changed overtime Because That’s your problem You guys really need to stop putting sequels/remakes/reboots/adaptations in the shadow of the originals and just let them have their own independent successes and be treated as something completely separate it’s a nasty habit that needs to be stopped Reboots and the originals can coexist stop making everything a competition It’s not horrible they were just going for what fits the tone If they had used the og design for a serious story it would have looked too uncanny
I haven't watched all of these remakes, but, when I go into watching them I try to look at them as their own thing. It would be easy to sit and compare every little thing in them to the original, but that takes away from it. None of them I've liked as much as the originals, but, I enjoyed watching them. I'm sure if I was still a kid I probably would even more. 101 Dalmatians was one of my absolute favorites as a kid. I watched that one until the tape literally broke. When the live action one came out I watched and loved that one too. It didn't matter that it was a remake, that they made changes, etc. It was just more of what I loved and I was happy. That's the sort of mentality I want to have with them, lol. Then if for whatever reason I don't end up liking them I can just go back to rewatching the originals.
EEEEEE!!!! im SO excited for this!! Ariels one of my favourites and its out on my FREAKING BIRTHDAY!!!!! as soon as she hit part of your world I KNEW this is gonna be good!!
In the teaser trailer it sounded like she put kind of an RnB flair on “someday I’ll be”. At first I was like, “Howard Ashman was super strict with Jodi Benson about making the song an intimate conversation and had to reel in her vocals.” But then I realized that was 34 years ago. I’m sure he’d be down for representation. LGBTQ+ people know how important representation in media is. I think Halle Bailey is going to do a fantastic job. The more I see of it the more I realize she was the right choice for the role. She even sounds like Ariel when she speaks. But I agree with you about Melissa McCarthy. If I had my way Idris Elba would’ve played Triton (he even has a successful music career) and Titus Burgess would’ve been Ursula. Or any of the fabulous black drag queens from RuPaul. Ursula is Ariel’s aunt and Triton’s sister after all. Yes, that’s canon.

You really need to start reacting to Halle's singing. And also her sister Chloe 🙏🏻
Everybody wanted to say that Anne Hathaway wouldn't make a good Catwoman. She ATE that role! People wanted to say that Robert Pattinson wouldn't make a good Batman. He ATE that role!
I've always loved Halle!!! Ever since her and her sister did the Pretty Hurts cover years ago, I fell in love with her talent!!! Such a unique and beautiful voice!!! Both Bailey sisters are incredible!!!
Her high note at the end was just amazing she can hold a very long Nate you should react to her singing more .
Melissa McCartney is really good with her acting she's gonna nail this character❤
Melissa’s voice changed a bit deeper.
I love it. Amazing.
Titus Burgess did play Sebastian in the Broadway version.
She knows he wanted to be Ursula he mentions it before the performance
Jodi Benson is the original Ariel. She also was the assistant in Enchanted.
And you’re counting Melissa out WAY TOO SOON. She’s actually sung before.
After squinting at my reflection during most of the (TOO DAMN DARK) trailer...I think Halley Bailey still looks like the best part of the film. What a lovely and talented young woman, I expect we'll see great things from her in the future.
4:11 i believe she did that on purpose because in the original, jodi does start small and then goes angelic
Melissa HAS done serious and heart breaking roles!!!!!!!!! AND SHE WAS AMAZING!!!!
Whaaaaaat?! Daveed Diggs?!? OMG!!!
@@SongsFromASuitcase lin manual miranda is doing some of the music for the movie too
Got goosebumps for halle bailey’s voice..
fvkin vibed with it so much. epic level of quality.
FYI comedy is HARD, which is why most comedic actors are amazing at doing dramatic roles. I think Melissa Mcarthy will crush it
They put her in because she auditioned and got the part.
And press releases never lie.

goosebumbs CANT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!! she's gonna be out of this world!!!!! and honestly i was super nervous when they announced that it was going to be Melissa McCarthy but after seeing the full trailer i actually think she's gonna be one of the "sleeper highlights" like fully prepared to hate it i bet im gonna leave the theatre and be like "woah she was Ursula"!!!!!
I have a feeling this is a reprise & that's why she went an octave higher to emphasize her determination. It would technically be the last time we would hear Ariel sing throughout the whole movie since she loses her voice so I think they're going to make it more dramatic im so excited to see it if this is true
I want to hear you sing “Part of your world”. I would love to see how similar you sound to Ariel.
The note is stretched to 12 seconds on every international trailer. The real sung one scores anyways a stunning 9 seconds (straight belt for 5½' and 3½' with a perfect vibrato). You should take a look on the french one, she's amazingly amazing 😂❤️
those riffs give me the chills
the “sexy dad from Supernatural” reference is sending me 🔥 love it gurl, same reaction, same!!! haha
I thought that queen latifah should have played her but we got that in the abc little mermaid special but I'm excited to see her so her rendition.Halle is perfect for this role..her voice her look her energy is spooky and I can feel it in my heart ❤️
She sounds amazing!!! Super excited to see this!
Her voice is wonderful.
Her voice is angelic💙
I’m stoked for Melissa as Ursula and I had the same reservations until this trailer 🤩
the song sounds different because she is singing the reprise of the song. The young guy is Jonah Hauer-King who is Prince Eric
Ursula should have been a Drag Queen, since the original design was inspired by the Drag Queen Divine. Imagine someone like Ginger Minj playing Ursula. She sings the song brilliantly.
Actually, Melissa Mccarthy was a drag queen named Miss Y. And she takes inspo from drag queen. So in a way your dream has come true
I feel the same way about Melissa like Queen Latifah is right there and Ursula's song is one of my favorites so I really hope they don't mess it up😭
She knows how to build! I love her voice.
Melissa McCarthy is a phenomenal actress, you should check out her more serious work
I love the part when she sings PART OF YOUR WORLD😍
Lea Salonga is the singing voice for both Jasmine and Mulan and Jodi Benson the voice and singing voice of Ariel
This is also the reprise of Part of your World not the original so the tempo is different and the build is higher
Also let's not forget that Ursula is a 'big character' villain. So she needs to be comedic/larger than life as well as villainous. Character actors should be good at any over the top character. Also although it's a comedic movie, in 'Identitt Thief' she has some serious/raw acting in parts of it too.
For YEARS I thought the lyric was "what shant you see" because of how Jodi sang it.
Honestly i was really happy with Melissa McCarthy being casted and it seems like she'll kill it, really looking forward to this remake
thanks for your video!!
remakes exist partly for a reintroduction to a new generation but also to renew the trademark so they don’t lose it
It’s no different than our ancestors passing down campfire stories with details of that story being changed overtime
That’s what remakes/reboots/sequels are campfire stories being passed down by our ancestors from generation to generation with details being changed overtime
Because That’s your problem You guys really need to stop putting sequels/remakes/reboots/adaptations in the shadow of the originals and just let them have their own independent successes and be treated as something completely separate it’s a nasty habit that needs to be stopped
Reboots and the originals can coexist stop making everything a competition
It’s not horrible they were just going for what fits the tone
If they had used the og design for a serious story it would have looked too uncanny
@@Jennilynne see exactly you get it they are their own thing
@@Jennilynne you get it
EEEEEE!!!! im SO excited for this!! Ariels one of my favourites and its out on my FREAKING BIRTHDAY!!!!! as soon as she hit part of your world I KNEW this is gonna be good!!
In the teaser trailer it sounded like she put kind of an RnB flair on “someday I’ll be”. At first I was like, “Howard Ashman was super strict with Jodi Benson about making the song an intimate conversation and had to reel in her vocals.”
But then I realized that was 34 years ago.
I love how you explained every bit of this thank you!
I agree about Titus. Also I’m excited for daveed digs as Sebastian. Also Titus was also great as Sebastian on broadway.
I am so happy that they have mixed the original and Broadway versions. Alan Menken is pure gold??
