That “part of your world” sung at the end actually gave me chills! It’s beyond fantastic!! Well done Halle!!!
Yes with the violins in the background.. I almost makes me cry.
Meh, it was big and "beautiful", sure, but honestly I didn't feel the same amount of emotions from the original. Like they were trying to be big and spectacular and forgot to convey the actual feelings. We're talking about a girl torn between worlds, who begins full of passion and desire to go and be "part of that world", but ultimately crashes heartbroken by the knowledge that it's impossible, and thus always has this internal struggle. This sounded like a performance, a brilliant one, but still just a performance and nothing more.

But it feels empty. This song is supposed to play such an important role in this movie and convey so much. 😢

@@honks9484 Well, to each their own. I mean, sure a good "performance" can give you a strong feeling, but it doesn't necessarily *convey* a feeling. I could feel plenty listening to that performance on the radio, it's definitely beautiful, but hearing that in the theatre I wouldn't for a moment buy that Ariel herself is feeling any kind of pain or longing, or really anything.
Jodi Benson was the original voice who has been nothing but supportive of Halle. Also Alan Menken the composer for the animated Little Mermaid wanted Halle to sing an octave above, the Broadway version, cause he knew she could.

I am obsessed with every choice Halle makes in the vocals. She's so freaking talented. The octave change and the full belt in the reprise is everything. I was on my feet ready to throw money at my TV to get this movie early. Halle is fantastic and this movie looks phenomenal so far
They changed it to an octave above in the liver performance. That had Aulii Cravalho singing the part of Ariel.

In the original animated version Triton didn't sing. However in the Broadway show he did have a few songs. I just hope his singing voice is as majestical!
Triton will be getting a new song in the remake.

Melissa McCarthy looks VERY promising, from the pre-screenings people have said that she is the highlight of the film. She has the voice down pat and looks incredible so I’m very excited for her portrayal
She even said in an interview that her Ursula was an ode to Divine. Melissa used to be a drag queen. :)

Halle Bailey’s voice is immaculate! She has one of the most angelic voices out there. You’ve gotta hear her work with her sister, Chloe. As for Melissa McCarthy, she won me over with this trailer. I think she can pull it off. And the guy playing Eric is named Jonah Hauer-King. I think he’s a newcomer.

Also, Melissa Mcarthy would be perfect for this because she loves drag queens, she use to do drag, if anyone would understand who Ursula was molded after, it would be her. I am super excited for her to have the Ursula role. Give her a chance, I think you may be surprised that she would bring her own twist but stay true to the character.

FYI:
Melissa McCarthy got an Oscar Nod for "Can You Ever Forgive Me?" from 2018, which is a biopic drama based on true events.
As for her singing, she recorded with Babs herself, Barbra Streisand"Anything you can do I can do better" in 2016 and she also did rap (that's right, you read rap) for "The Boss" that same year.
Also, is allegedly reported that she did drag a few times but never developed further.
And besides:
1. Ursula (an allegedly drag character based physically on Divine) had no name in the book, only credited as "The Witch from the sea"
2. Pat Carroll (a cis woman) Voiced her in almost every single appearance that the character had
3. It was Howard Ashman's suggestion to make the character look Drag, against the original production plans.
So and after all this things, Melissa McCarthy is the most qualified performer to bring to life and in flesh and bones Ursula, and to make her part of our world.
yeah I'm kind of over grown ups complaining about movies for children, that's not causing direction harm to children. If you don't wanna see it send your kids with someone who does and don't steal their joy. A lot of people with kids are emotional vampires I'm seeing more & more .

Lea Selonga was the singing voice for Jasmine and Mulan. Jodi Benson was the original Ariel and is also set to make an appearance in the live action!

Ursula is definitely more dramatic in the OG movie, but in the musical (or at least in the high school version I saw) she has some great comedic moments, and has another song referencing her history, which is a very fun number. Also, in the trailer, Halle is singing the reprise after saving Eric, and I believe in the original Jodi Benson starts it out slowly as well. Plus, Halle taking it an octave higher at the end is also in the Broadway reprise. Sorry for the info dump, but I just thought I'd share in case some of your followers didn't know 😊😊

I questioned Melissa as a choice when I found out a couple years ago but once this trailer dropped she sold me, I can't believe people can't see from just this snippet how amazing she did with just her voice to capture Ursula, I'm blown away.
Jodi Benson was the original Ariel voice and actually acts in this one! Also, Javier is not Neegan...but is a fantastic actor with a great resume!!

The movie can be terrible and it wouldn't matter, her voice will carry the film. I'm soo glad they hired a professional singer, not just an actress who "can sing I guess"....that last belt gave me life...
It's a pity that songs in other countries will be dubbed anyway, so most of the world won't hear Halle's vocals anyway. I believe that acting is much more important than a few minutes of songs. This is a movie, not Spotify. I keep my fingers crossed for Halle's acting.

Love Melissa and I think she will play a great Ursula. I think we will finally get to see her expand her acting range. Excited to see her. Halle I have no words but brilliant. Her voice and look fits a mermaid perfectly. We know she isn't the original cartoon character but I believe she is prefect for the role.

The version of Part of Your World she's singing in this trailer is the reprise. In the original broadway show it goes up the octave and is slower.
Also Mellisa McCarthy does sing pretty well, and used to do drag tributes to Divine who Ursula is inspired by.
I saw a show Melissa McCarthy did, recently and I was surprised to see her playing a real person, not an over the top 'fat girl's character. I loved it! I think she's actually got the chops, she's just been type cast for too long. Hopefully they let her shine in this role!

Hi! I'm a Supernatural fan and you're talking about Jeffrey Dean Morgan. He played John Winchester in Supernatural and Negan in TWD, but this guy playing Triton is Javier Barden. He played Raoul Silva in Skyfall. Halle Bayley has an amazing, strong voice! You must check out her live performance of the Lion King's main theme "Can you feel the love tonight?" She’s singing how the reprise is written for the on stage musical, i believer there will be a lot more of the musical in the movie. I've always loved Halle!!! Ever since her and her sister did the Pretty Hurts cover years ago, I fell in love with her talent!!! Such a unique and beautiful voice!!! Both Bailey sisters are incredible!!!

This trailer was phenomenal, it gave me so much hope for this movie. Halle Bailey really nailed the youthful princess and amazing siren’s voice, which is the most important aspect for this film to me.
The only thing I’m not totally sold on is Melissa Mcarthy, I think they missed a chance to do something a little more high fantasy with the casting and design.
I also love the notion that Ariel being darker skin makes more sense given all the Caribbean influence on the music. I love the subtle ginger hair and that TAIL.
I can’t wait to see this film!!! Disney live action has been hit or miss and I hope this is a hit!

There is an amazing footage on RUclips of the original recording of Part of Your World with Jodi Benson and Howard Ashman. It shows Howard giving great direction to Jodi about the intent of the song and how to approach the song. I think you would love to watch and react to it.

After squinting at my reflection during most of the (TOO DAMN DARK) trailer...I think Halley Bailey still looks like the best part of the film. What a lovely and talented young woman, I expect we'll see great things from her in the future.
It shows the difference of treatment of the woman in the current productions, we have the power where we had the fragility. It is very well sung and very pretty, is it true to the character? Why not.

I have a feeling this is a reprise & that's why she went an octave higher to emphasize her determination. It would technically be the last time we would hear Ariel sing throughout the whole movie since she loses her voice so I think they're going to make it more dramatic im so excited to see it if this is true

She also has to go up the octave because they also changed the notes for “someday I’ll BEEEE” sort of like the Broadway version. It won’t make sense for her to not go up the octave now that she made the “be” higher.

I just really wish people didn't show hate that the fact the we have a Black Ariel -- I'm not saying this because I'm black I'm saying this because of the vocal abilities I have and how I love to sing! I'm not saying that any there's no other female that could play Ariel. But I can confidently say Halle is the right choice! She has the vocal range of Ariel she has the soft voice (naturally) and just everything so far she just fits! I LITERALLY CAN'T WAIT for May 26th!

I need to double check, but I'm fairly sure that the song being sung is from the reprise of Part of Your World. SImilar in style to Sierra Boggess performance of Ariel on Broadway with going the octive up.
This is also the reprise of Part of your World not the original so the tempo is different and the build is higher
FYI comedy is HARD, which is why most comedic actors are amazing at doing dramatic roles. I think Melissa Mcarthy will crush it

Also let's not forget that Ursula is a 'big character' villain. So she needs to be comedic/larger than life as well as villainous. Character actors should be good at any over the top character. Also although it's a comedic movie, in 'Identitt Thief' she has some serious/raw acting in parts of it too.

I’m pretty sure that the octave up is in every version. Cause that section is from part of your world reprise which ends with an octave up at the end with that icon wave splash on the rock.
It's a change that was made in the Broadway version and kept for the live action, although Halle holds the note longer. In the animated version it didn't go the octave above.

Ursula should have been a Drag Queen, since the original design was inspired by the Drag Queen Divine. Imagine someone like Ginger Minj playing Ursula. She sings the song brilliantly.

King triton is being played by Javier Bardem not Jeffrey dean morgan. I don't know anything about the guy but I've heard hes good. For anyone curious about Sebastians actor its Daveed Diggs (thomas jefferson and Lafayette in hamilton) so i have hopes for under the sea.
