For medicine the price cap is 247 dollars a year. Anything you need above that will be free. Insulin is completely free.
I dont know if anyone else has already explained it but the reason why the Swedes chose Minnesota of all places was because it reminded them of home. The soil and the nature is similar, there are a bunch of lakes and trees all around, they have bears, fish, and moose just like home. It was like a home away from home for them and thats why they stayed in and around Minnesota

The 3.5% alcohol - Basically 3.5% (volume%) is the limit for when it can only be sold at Systembolaget. Anything with less than 3.5% can be sold in any store (still with the agelimit) and anything with more alcohol can only be sold by Systembolaget (or bars/pubs with special alcohol-licenses). There is also a progressive tax for alcohol where the more alcohol it has the higher the tax on it and where, on average, wine have a higher tax than beer and things like that.

April weather - I remember being at Uni and gone in to study for a day. It was dark and raining as I went there so felt good to just sit indoors. About lunchtime it was sunny, warm and not a cloud in the sky and I sat outside eating my lunch. At about 3-4pm I looked out and there was a heavy snowfall with a few inches of snow on the ground. All in less than 12hrs.
Thanks for a great video and interesting comments. 🙋♀️ Yes you should try the Palt dish. It’s delicious. One of my favourites actually. By the way, it is not cranberries with it, it is sweetened lingonberry jam. Yummie. 😋 I think you already have got answers of all your questions in the comments, so I don’t need to go thru them again.
alcohol lesser than 3,5 % can be sold in regular stores. Higher than that it is sold by Systembolaget, the state owned monopolized licker store. It has regulated open hours (totally closed on sundays and bank holidays) and because it is monopolized offer a wide range of products, my favourites being american west coast beer.
Allemansrätten: Actually you CAN pitch your tent also on private property, but only for 24 hours and it has to be out of sight from their place of living. So it's not like you can camp in someones backyrad, but if their 'backyard' is sizeable enough, yuo can. They didn't convey all the details in this video.
When they go through FIKA, the green pastry is called "Princess cake" and is also the most iconic cake there is in Sweden and can be served on our very own "National day" which is the 6 of june and of caurse the cake is served with a small swedish flag on top, otherwise it's more common that the cake have a pink marzipan rose on the top instead. This cake however is just a cake you nomally eat when you celebrate something, so if it's just a coffie break from work then FIKA can look very different. It could also be just coffie.
kalles kaviar is nothing like fancy caviar. its smoked and heavily salted and usually eaten at breakfast on a piece of toast, often with sliced eggs. I guess its in paste form to be easily put on your toast. all the other different pastes in the picture after is cream cheese with different tastes, yes one of them is hummer taste. There is also shrimp (actually good I promise) taste. also in paste form because its easy to spread on your toast.
The reason they show Donald Duck on Christmas eve is that in the 60's the TV -station(SVT) started to show it to give the children something to view. It was around that TV Came to Sweden(1958)
ABBA is literally the initial of the band members (Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad) and yes, they are Swedish. Globen is an arena, not a museum, it was recently renamed Avicii Arena after the artist Swedish artist Avicii passed away.
I have reindeer meat in the freezer right now. It tastes so good, especially dried and salted. Moose hamburgers are good too. Oh and Systembolaget sells alcohol from 3,5% and up, anything less than that normal stores can sell.
Read on a swedish fish pack once.. Said Made in Canada :P Oh and btw, if you're curious about northern sweden, check out Jonna Jinton .. you won't regret it :)
Yes, we have lots of different vodkas, whiskeys, whines- you name it. We just don't sell it in grocery stores or drug stores- we have a special place for that: Systembolaget
The "micronations" in Sweden aren't really nations, it's more of a cultural statement or a protest against the government, for one reason or another. It's only the Sami people of the north that has some independence and also their own parliament. The Avicii Globe Arena in Stockholm is an arena, with music concerts, hockey tournaments, and the like. Allemansrätten, or the Right of Public Access, does not apply to someone's backyard, but you can walk into a forest, no matter who owns it. Pick berries and mushrooms, but you're not allowed to cut down trees, since they belong to the forest owner. However, you're allowed to camp, at least for one night anywhere (not including someone's backyard) if you plan to stay longer you should ask for permission. You can also go and swim in any lake, regardless of who owns it. If there is farmland in front of the lake, the farmer must leave a strip or a path so people can reach the lake, because you're not allowed to just stomp down someone's plants.
So nobody’s gonna tell this man what a micronation is? Alright then, guess its up to me! So, a micronation is basically when a person or group of people claim a piece of land for themselves and act like they’re and independent nation eventhough they have no actual legal backning whatsoever. These micronations usually have their own flags, currencies, forms of gouvernment and ”borders” and so on but in reality they are not legal countries like for example Sweden, Germany, the UK or the US.
If you like to see the difference between summer and winter in the north of sweden, watch Jonna Jinton's video ruclips.net/video/3zTR4ayDG38/видео.html .She does it all herself, Filming and editing, Beautiful videos, and she is a singer and a jewlery maker too. And yes there are cities and towns in the north.
Why Minnesota.. they was farmers and lumberjacks.. and there was free land to claim, and it looks like scandinavia! They know how to use that sort of land!
Avicii arena was named after the DJ Avicii. Which I assume you are familiar with? It was named after him when he died. Before that it was called the Globe Arena. He's had atleast 1 number 1 song in the US. But it's just like any other arenas. Concerts and hockey games are the most common one. And yes, Abba is Swedish :)
The 3.5 ABV rule relates to what beverages can and can not be sold in a normal supermarket. Anything of 3.5 ABV or lower can be sold anywhere, stronger alcohol than that can only be bought through the Systembolaget state monopoly.
seven types of cookies is usually reserved for special occations such as birthdays or other celebrations. but we do love our pastries. we have a special pastry which we basically only eat around this one day in the spring called a Semla, this one day is actually named in it's honor.
Alemansrätten works like this. You can not go into gardens and private land close to houses and on farmlands. Also nature reserves has it´s own rules. But all other lands both private owned and public owned is free to roam and pick berries, mushrooms and so on. As long as you don´t destroy the nature. You cannot hunt animals or fish however you want. owners need to approve of that first and fishinglicences might be needed.
@JimGames They did a follow-up video regarding Sweden with their video regarding the history of the Swedish flag where they issued some explanations and more facts about stuff, recommend watching that as well if you haven't already done that.
I know I'm late to the party but here is a comment on the health care price cap. If you just see a doctor or have surgery, the price is pretty much the same. If you cut your finger chopping onions and need a stitch, its about 20 USD. If you need to check your left eye because its a bit red, its about 20 USD. Did you need a heart transplant and then a month of intensive care? It's about 20 USD for the transplant and then about 15 USD per day spent in the hospital. You might need to buy some medicine in these cases to take home but if it passes about 100 USD, the rest is free.
The reason why the swedish immigrants choose Minnesota I believe is becasue they thought the ground (the earth) the trees and the nature looked kind of simular to how it looked in sweden from were they came from and it felt like a little part of sweden were with them. So they did it for those kind of reasons I think but it could also be for other reasons too.
It’s not at all difficult to get your hands on stronger alchohol if you’re over 20 (or 18 at pubs), you just can’t buy it in the convenience store. This has actually helped reduce the amount of alcoholism, and has reduced the crime rate significantly every year.
Freedom to roam: you can't walk in someone's backyard, but almost. You have to stay out of sight or 50 yards away from a house, to allow for privacy. But you may walk on private owned farmland or forests, you may put up a tent anywhere and stay one night, minding the 50 yard rule from a house.
They are WRONG about the "Allemansrätten" (Right of Public Access). You HAVE access to be on private land! That's the point! This is how it works; "'the public has access to private land where no damage is likely to result and prohibition would be unreasonable"'. You can camp anywhere you want....in Sweden for one or two nights. (Not caravans dough....that's not real camping anyway) ;-) You can pick berries in the woods, climbing or hiking, fishing is free with rods along the coast and in the five largest lakes, you have to buy a "fishing-card" in many smaller lakes but that doesn't cost much. The nature is available for everybody. With a few EXCEPTIONS like peoples GARDENS, MILITARY AREAS and SUCHLIKE, and with these "right to roam" come responsibilities; that is, an OBLIGATION neither to harm, disturb, litter, nor to damage wildlife or crops. "The Swedish know-it-all" ;-)
46:28 fun fact about the national anthem. The reason it's not official is because the government thought that a national anthem should be chosen by it's people, even now that's what they think. so if the majority of Swedens population suddenly wanted Wrecking ball as the national anthem, it would be the national anthem.
Oh we have strong alcohol here, but anything with a higher alcohol content thant 3,5 % can only be sold in our state owned liquor stores called Systembolaget. Alcohol has a very long history hear and sadly so does alcohol dependence. It's a cold and dark country a lot of time of the year with many periods in history of starvation - but most households would make their own alcohol. You are hungry? Alcohol. Cold? Alcohol. Children are sick? Alcohol. Children can't sleep because they are cold, hungry and sick? Alcohol. So in the middle of the 19th century a lot restrictions were put in place to stem this and it has led to the system we have today. This means that no private owner can get rich of of selling alcohol here. The alcohol is always sold at the same price in stores. There's less commercials for alcohol and so on. Since Systembolaget is run by the government they don't really have the need to make money, so you can find more than just the "best sellers" even in the smaller stores in small towns.
Coffee was banned because of economic reasons. Basically, Sweden didn't have any trade companies that imported it directly so all of it was bought at pretty high cost from foreign trade houses.. and as coffee was very popular, that's a lot of money flowing out of the country.
But it was sold as if you drink a cup of coffee, you end up with a syringe in your arm. There is old anti coffee propaganda to be found on the internet, an antique version of reefer madness.
Fika - I guess it is more of a lifestyle in that it is always something you can do when you cant think of anything else. If you want to meet up with your friends, Swedes are not strong on the "let' just hang out", we like to do something. So go out and have a Fika is a good enough reason to meet up and have a chat. In the workplace a coffee-break is something that most Unions seem to have added to the work schedule. You put down your work, you go to the breakroom, you get a coffee or tea and maybe grab a cookie as well. While there you can smalltalk in general, discuss the latest sports that's been going on, or you can have informal work meetings since most people from the entire company comes together around the same time. You can tell your boss something that (s)he might want to know about, or your boss can catch up with how things have going. I personally speculate that the Fika during work is simply just an alotted time to be social with others. it is ment to replace the occasional smalltalk as you pass your co-workers in the hallway so that workers can focus on being productive and work-related things and then when it's time for a Fika you switch into social, non-work mode.
In the first graphic he included Finland in Scandinavia, this is wrong, they are Nordic. Globen / Avicii arena is an arena, a concert hall yes. There is an observatory thingy on the outside. No snow in the south would be extremely rare. I can't remember it happening in my life. Yes, even in the south there can be snowfall in May... Haven't had reindeer meatballs, but damn the meat is good. Princess cake has marzipan on top. It's a big one. Also, he said historically it's was 7 kinds of cookies, and I guess it's a tradition in some cases but not common. Also fika goes way beyond the workplace. No, surströmming is not anchovies, it's fish all right, but it's fermented and makes some gag because of the smell and salt. 23:45 What?! Looks nothing like it, looks like egg. Kalles Kaviar is so good! And we have A LOT of stuff in tubes. 26:20 Ewwwwwwww. Yes, anything strong is sold at Systembolaget, which is a chain which isn't open every day and at short hours. But bars serve anything. Sweden is one of the least religious countries in the world, but it's changing with all the muslims coming here, sad. I'd rather be wrongfully be called a racist than deny facts and pretend this shit is ok. Yes, Swedish fish is not from Sweden, it's an American thing. Sweden also recycle so well that we buy trash from Norway and the UK to be able to use it for fuel.

Fun fact: Sweden and the USA haven't always had great relations. After the bomb raids of Hanoi in 1972 our PM held his christmas speech and he condemned the USA HARD. He was like "The bombings are an atrocity. And we have many examples of this in modern history. And they are generally associated with a name: Guernica, Oradour, Babij Jar, Katyń, Lidice, Sharpeville, Treblinka. There, the violence has triumphed. But the judgment of posterity has fallen harshly on those who bore the responsibility. Now a new name is added to the line: Hanoi, Christmas 1972." And the USA was like "nope" and pulled their ambassador and froze all diplomatic relations with us.
I belive our medical care caps are about 107,748usd for treament and doctors appointments( not dental care that has an other separate cap) and 215,496usd for medicine per year after that there is only specially hard operations or plastic surgery and the like that will cost you. Im diabetic and my medicine I mostly get free after like 2-3 months. So 323,244 usd/ yearly for healthcare (not including dental) is the most you as an avagage swede is gonna need to pay and the avarage doctors appointmment costs on avarage less than 20usd.

Avicii arena (known as ”Globen” or ”The Globe” by the locals, no matter how many times it’s renamed) is a sports/music/entertainment arena. It’s an iconic part of Stockholm’s skyline, along with our city hall (Stadshuset).
April weather -
I remember being at Uni and gone in to study for a day.
Yummie. 😋
I think you already have got answers of all your questions in the comments, so I don’t need to go thru them again.
alcohol lesser than 3,5 % can be sold in regular stores.
10:14 yes ABBA are from Sweden :)
kalles kaviar is nothing like fancy caviar. its smoked and heavily salted and usually eaten at breakfast on a piece of toast, often with sliced eggs.
It was around that TV
Came to Sweden(1958)
Said Made in Canada :P
Oh and btw, if you're curious about northern sweden, check out Jonna Jinton .. you won't regret it :)
Jonna og hele familien er fantastiske ❤️ smukke videoer hun laver
No... Surströmming is nothing like anchovies. Anchovies are edible.
And the green stuff on the cake is marzipan.
Surströmming is a fermented herring. I’ll bet it’s nothing like you have ever smelled or tasted before
@@aborg7529 I'm Norwegian, so you are absolutely right. I know exactly what it is, and so I stay away.
Surströmming are our own biochemical warfare.
These micronations usually have their own flags, currencies, forms of gouvernment and ”borders” and so on but in reality they are not legal countries like for example Sweden, Germany, the UK or the US.
i promise if u get a hold of "kräftost" or "kalles kaviar" u dont want anything else, that is 1 of if not the most common produkts here
Prular for moose in Swedish is; Älgar. Because one moose in Swedish is Älg
Random Swedish lesson!
yay so fun. I'm from sweden love this video.
29:38 _The Room_ reference FTW
You are TEARING ME APART, Barbs!
Avicii Arena is a large arena that hosts events like ice hockey, concerts etc. The Swedish national hockey team play their home games there
As a swedish army that has subscribed to you for a long time this made me happy 🤪💜
Why Minnesota.. they was farmers and lumberjacks.. and there was free land to claim, and it looks like scandinavia! They know how to use that sort of land!
when I had surgery and spent one night I paid $5 I think
the avicii arena is fort artist to preform in. Abba is from sweden. 💜
37:47 It was literally the plot of an episode of _The Ghost and Molly McGee_ , a show that is otherwise bright and cheery.
alcohol at or over 3,5% has to be sold in the state owned stores, anything under 3,5% can be sold in regular stores
"Aprilväder" > april weather, is basically all 4 seasons happening in one day.
seven types of cookies is usually reserved for special occations such as birthdays or other celebrations. but we do love our pastries. we have a special pastry which we basically only eat around this one day in the spring called a Semla, this one day is actually named in it's honor.
I’m following your BTS journey (which I love) and stumbled on this. It was great 💜
Hej från Göteborg! 🇸🇪
In more northern parts we also eat Moose tungues👌🥲
7:12 And his saucy ship's a beauty!
avicii arena is a normal arena just shaped as a ball, theres concert and cons in there mostly as far as i know.
"The Swedish know-it-all" ;-)
The canvas things is more due to the fact that it's illegal to do offroading in Sweden
Greetings from Gotland. Avicci arena were formerly called Globen or The Globe and are a sport and events arena.
Things Swedes put in paste tubes are toothpaste, and thins we put on sandwiches.
Fika -
I guess it is more of a lifestyle in that it is always something you can do when you cant think of anything else.
1 million for healthcare? omg thats horrific!!! here u pay with ure taxes or u have a cap up to about 1500 swedish crown and after its free. 24hours in hospital is about 90 crowns wich is drawn from ure tax
the sciense center is a hockey Arena and an event arena and you can only buy strong alcohol at systembolaget and bears 3.5% on supermarket buy you cant buy stong alcohol after 17:00 or on sundays
free food is in the schools.
The Kaviar is in paste form to be in a tube so you can bring it on your skii trip or your Hiking expedition without haveing to bring a cooler:) instead ask yourself the question! what should be on tube so you can bring it when you Hike :P
well maby everything? :P YEES EVERYTHING! TUBE IT! what do you do? YOU TUBE!
1 million in dept? it would Maximum cost maby 150 dollars in Sweden to visit the hospital like that,, maby 15 dollars even :P
My favorite reactor react to my favorite channel, what a beautiful day!
(Swedish) Got covid (real bad) and had to visit hospital 4 times and the ER 3 Times total cost about 150 usd... I was unable to work for 3 mounths but still 90% of my sallery
If I were to travel by car from Gothenburg to the town furthest North, it would take around 20 hours with no stops (says my iphone map app). Good idea for traveling 👍🏻, I might do that one day. Usually when traveling I choose warmer countries to escape Swedish winter 😂 but summers here are warm and beautiful ☺️.
you can only buy up to 3.5% alcoholic bevrages in regular stores . Systembolaget is goverment owned stores that sell the stronger stuff. anything above 3.5% is sold there.
Now that you mentioned it, I never thought about how crazy that is. Someone just went: "Oi, lets taxidermy a fucken whale, m8!"
Haha Absolute Vodka is literally from Sweden.
Danish man here, first thing i did when i turned 15, was buying a 3L bottle of Jack Daniels from the closest gas station
The law of allemansrätten. You know the roaming law. They are wrong. You can go into somebodys yard, as long as you dont destroy or disturb.
Palt is awesome. Kalles kaviar is awesome .
Now a new name is added to the line: Hanoi, Christmas 1972."
And the USA was like "nope" and pulled their ambassador and froze all diplomatic relations with us.
Reindeer meatballs are freaking amazing!
Absolut Vodka is Swedish haha
The travel ban was in respons to the travel ban that the US put on all EU citizens.
I love P A L T
24:24 you have it on eggs and as a toping on bred
