Everybody has their own reasons to love this channel, but my favorites are:
    1. How unapologetically he does everything he likes
    2. He shows us beautiful places and activities. We can very well summarize this channel as "The beauty of calmness"
    3. Mike is a positive masculine figure; resourceful and intelligent, but gentle and calm, he's not noisy, or aggressive
    4. He provides actually useful advice; stabbing soft rolls with a knife has become part of my day-to-day arsenal
    5. He teaches about sustainability and avoiding waste by living the way he lives, not by being preachy or judgemental
    6. Eva is so cute!
    7. Mike is genuinely funny and spontaneous

    • @CaptainPupu
      @CaptainPupu 3 месяца назад +5

I would add his incredible English kind of humor - witty responses to scammers, ingenuity and being leniently spontaneous with videos, which is a welcome change.
I think the word " wholesome" is absolutely obliteratingly overused in the internet, but this really is it. The one word to describe this channel: wholesome.

Millions of years ago, well perhaps closer to 45, I found a cricket ball sized lump of something purple on the beach at Bridlington. Naturally we took it home and started rifling through encyclopaedias, remember books, kids? We found nothing of use so my mum took me to a local museum who identified it as amethyst. What the hell it was doing on the East Yorkshire coast is anyone's guess. They were quite interested and gave us what I loosely recall as a couple of quid for it. As far as I am aware it's still in the collection at Cartwright Hall in Bradford.

I hope, they at least put it on display. All too often, these kind of finds disappear somewhere in the archives of museums, never to be seen again by the public.
And what a treasure to give up as a child. When I was that age, back in the late 80s, my parents took us to the Italian alps one summer and we found some beautiful deep red garnets. I treasured all through my childhood and later had them cut and polished.

At the spot where you were looking at the insulator embedded in the beach, there was a large boulder of some sort of conglomerate that had a whole red brick imbedded in it then washed smooth. I think that was he best piece of the day! :-)

Some of the rusty metal scrap make me want to check when my last tetanus shot was. Most collectibles I tend to find here in Oz on beach is sea glass and coal. Of course you could collect nicely shaped plain pottery pieces & paint on them motifs inspired by the patterned pottery.

Curious if you have seen the mushroom hunting glasses. They are called fungeyes and it's supposed to make mushrooms stand out when you're on the hunt.

what you were considering the surgical scalpel handle I wonder if it is the old worn blade of a straight razor? It looks to have a hinge near the thin end where the scales might attach.

Woolworths a good few years ago used to sell Hedgerow dinner and tea sets maybe the piece Jenny found was from that,

I think you might be right. I searched and the manufacturer was named Meakin. On the fragment Jenny found, below the part that looks like it says 'hedgerow', there is 'ea' but the start and end of that word trails off the broken edges. It might be the 'ea' from 'Meakin'

@@AtomicShrimp Alfred Meakin was the manufacture

Using this information I've been able to match the fragment exactly to a specific design within that series. It was very satisfying and I might do a few of the other fragments and document this in a future video

    I have a curiousity question.
What do you do with the stuff you collect from beachcombing and the like? do you display it or store it away.
I do remember you did turn some seaglass into something a little while ago but i imagine you've got quite a collection of curios youve been lucky enough to find!
