Historical costumers are probably the only people who make all of their own undergarments *and* make sure they all coordinate! 😂 Seriously - awesome work!

For some reason I just love bustles. Them, pairs of combinations, corsets, and petticoats. Always have since I was a kid lol.

I'm only halfway through the video but wanted to share that Teflon tape works really well for boning tips too 💜💜

Oh yeah...I snip the roll of flat boning I have, file the corners round, and wrap with teflon tape. I used to file each corner, but after 50 or so bones, I got a cheap 1" belt sander from Harbor Freight. Zip Zip and it's done...

FYI Ms. Langtry was a famous actress and was one of many mistresses of the prince of Wales at the time and who became King and it's rumored her only child was his, and Langtry Texas is named her after Judge Roy Bean saw her. Oh you need to watch the mini series about her starting Francesca Annis I watched it and enjoyed it a long time ago.

I do think you did wonderfully well working with what you had and this coming out so beautifully.
Are your girls showing interest in 'what Mummy does" yet? Hopefully we will see them making things with you one day.
How's the physio coming along? You look as though you are doing pretty well with it. I do hope that all your medical costs have been met by the person who T-honed you and you are decently compensated for all the pain and stress he caused you. It's a different system here in the UK, although a vehicle accident needing an ambulance does attract a cost, this is usually met by our insurers who then claim it back from the other parties insurer. compensation though isn't quite so straight forward.
Really looking forward to watching each piece of this ensemble and the final reveal. Today is a bad day for me with pain, you've just made it feel that bit better. Mine's courtesy of a drunken driver many years ago, so I know just how tough it can be getting well again. Thank you, Marika.

Thank you! My girls have days where they want to join in, and other days where the sewing room is the last place they want to be 😂😂
Recovery is still coming along slowly, almost everything has been paid for by insurance which has been very helpful! The pain is localized to my neck, left arm and lower back, but I do see improvements in the length I am able to sew now.
I am sorry to hear that today is a bad day for you, hopefully things will start looking up soon!

Thats gorgeous. Looks great against the white of the rest of your undergarments.
Love the bustle era and victorian in general. Unfortunately its not one I can pull off with the wheelchair. Its not right to hide all the gorgeous shaping of pads and bustles when you are sat down 90% of the time. So I have to do the eras of less volume 😉
At least I get to watch talented costumers make a huge variety of garments and enjoy them vicariously.

Amazing!!! I would LOVE to make this. And don’t feel bad or odd as I’m a perfectionist too, or as the better way of putting it was pointed out. I love excellence. So there you go. You love excellence.

Oh here's another tidbit they obsessed over the bustle so much that they said if you could balance a cake plate on top of a woman's bustle and it balanced then it a good one.

I love it!! And as far as it being larger than they original, aren't bustles (and victorian costume, in general) based on proportion? If you are more endowed on top, then it stands to reason the bustle would be larger to give the hourglass illusion!

Thank you so much for making this video and the pattern! I made the lobster tail bustle last year and love it under my 1880's dress but I wanted something smaller. It was so easy to make! Like you, I had a tricky time sewing the rungs on but managed. It came out so well! I also used fabric from my stash and used twill tape folded and stitched to hold the bones. The only thing I found as a discrepancy was the length of the back center support. The measurement given is 37" + 2. Perhaps a typo? Other than that, this is fantastic! Thanks again!

Here's a question, What does it feel like to wear one of these? Is it weird? Do you feel like you have a tail? How does it feel when the skirts add pressure? Beautiful job, by the way.

    • @EnchantedRoseCostumes
      @EnchantedRoseCostumes  2 года назад +1

I haven't tried it with the full skirts added yet, but in my trial run with a petticoat I didn't notice it feeling odd.

@@EnchantedRoseCostumes I've often thought about wearing a bustle but I'm not sure how they feel. I would hate to go through all the hassle only to find that it's pesky to wear. I used to think I would LOVE wearing the hang down garters -- no, I hate them, I can't handle the way they feel against my legs. I look at these bustles and I start thinking -- that might be just unpleasant enough to not be my thing. I suppose the only thing to do is to try.

Oh and I bought the books you had suggested, I’m reading the kiss of deception right now and absolutely loving it! I’m sure you’ve read both series by Sarah Maas? I love love the Court of Thorns and Roses series, also kind of a Beauty and the Beast spin-off

If you go to your local hardware store and get big, heavy washers, they work equally well. If you're unsure, I'm positive a member of staff will point you in the right direction Alternately, you can order via Amazon. Hope that helps too.
