    We've had our griddle for two years, and last year I took over the griddling from my husband. He didn't know how to care for it, and every time I go to use it, I've had to deal with rust. After watching your videos, I fixed it, used it, cleaned it using your method and covered it for three weeks. I went to use it today and IT WASN'T RUSTY!! Thank you for your clear instructions on keeping the griddle clean and rust free.

    I just gotta say, I wish I'd have found you last summer! lol ...Spring broke here last week and I've been studying beer to grill ratios.
    I kinda got the beer/clean grill order wrong and started to clean grill AFTER heavy into the PBRs. Friends came as I was heating up the grill for initial clean we went in the house and.. well.. I forgot about this whole I'm gonna clean the grill thing. 1 1/2 hours later, my Camp Chef 2 burner was all weird lookin, so I turned it off and went in the house. Turns out this happy accident saved me haha.
    After a rest and further study watching your vids I realized I didn't really do the season proper when I bought it. I use cast iron, so I did some cast iron crap I imagined as right and went with it. All last summer, my food was stickin, black stuff sometimes scraped off with food and well.. I just thought it'll fix itself, no biggie - sips beer -
    Who woulda thunk you were supposed to super fry the grilltop until it looked all weird in order for the magic to start?!? Superheat, scrape all crap off a few times then 2 tablespoons of oil until it "smokes off" 3 times and done?!? Just wow haha
    I did a big ole 4 omelets, sausage, taters, and bacon thing this morning. It was like cookin on a slippery cloud!
    I was so happy. I chopped up 9 pounds of chicken breast drowned them in italian dressing and threw 'em on the grill. We'll EAT LIKE KINGS for a day or two!! woohoo! And easy cleanup.
    Thanks man!

    • @JohnnyBrunet

      Lol Ive definitely had a few too many and forgot about my griddle as well. I'm glad you got your two burner reseasoned and it's not sticking. That can be so frustrating. Also it sounds like you do your chicken just like mine, drown them in Italian dressing hahaha. That's the way to do it, it's so easy. Well I'm really glad my videos helped and it sounds like we would get along really well with some smash burgers and a case of PBRs. Also you're omelet sounded amazing, I'm going to try that. Thanks so much for watching man.
      Cheers 🍻

      You are welcom Jilane. I wipe it down and add water to clean after every cook. Now is it as thorough as this video, no. It's just a quick clean up. As far as deep cleaning exactly like this video I don't do it enough but I would reccomend about every 5 cooks or so to try to give a solid once over. Full disclosure there are also days where I may put on two hamburgers then scrape it, wipe with a paper towel and call it a day. I treat it similar to cast iron I don't always deep clean.

  • @nexus-6392
    @nexus-6392 2 года назад +1

    Thanks a lot for that clip. That's really cool coz you don't use tons of chemical products as I saw in other videos. We've watched videos of people cleaning their griddles and some use different products and techniques: Special griddle chemical product, scrub, put vinegar and then water. If you can get good results with only water that's even better. Who's glad to spend time and energy cleaning a griddle after eating? We all want a quick and easy method that is reliable and protects from rust.
    Also, my brother in law told me that one of the best thing to put at the end is some Tenderflake. Have you tried it?
    Thank you.

      Congratulations on the new griddle! Usually I do but if I'm being honest sometimes I just wipe it down well then put the cover on. Best practice would be to do this cleaning everytime though. That wl keep it looking nice. Mi e has a few spots where the seasoning has chipped away and that's probably from not doing it every time but that hadn't affected any of my food. @JohnnyBrunet  3 года назад +10

      Hi Joshua, I kept mine out for most of the winter with a hard and soft cover on it. I also put a little bit of parchment paper down. I used it a lot still though probably 3 times a month. However the griddle does come right off. So you can store that in your garage or basement if you weren't going to use it for a few months. They also sell cases you can put the griddle in when you store it. It is kind of heavy though. Thanks for watching and good question.

    Johnny, what is the quality of the cast iron griddle out of the box? Did you have to grind it smooth and re-season it? I had to do that with my lodge cast iron skillet.

    • @JohnnyBrunet
      @JohnnyBrunet  3 года назад +1

      Hey James, it's actually not cast iron its cold rolled steel just like the Blackstones. It arrives black and looks like cast iron because it is pre seasoned. I still seasoned it three times just to be safe and it's been great. I have heard of people sanding down there cast iron like that. Here's a link to the Camp Chef website where they go over all the specs. www.campchef.com/flat-top-grills-new/flat-top-grill.html
