- Australia has an agreement with the following countries:
only three countries in Asia: India, Japan and Korea.
Over 20 countries from Europe - Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Malta, The Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovak republic, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland.
Please be advised that the agreement with the United Kingdom (UK) ended on 1st March 2001.
Three countries in America: Canada, Chile and United States of America
and New Zealand.
Under the agreement with those countries, you can claim the benefit regardless if you are in Australia or the other country at the time of your application.
If you are making the claim while in Australia, just follow the steps and suggestions from: "How to prepare an application of Age Pension".
If you are making the claim while you are in another country, but I repeat again, only in the country that has the Social Security Agreement with Australia I would recommend the following steps to make the process easy and successful at the same time. And your success is in your proper planning.
Before you even leave Australia, set up your MyGov account so you can make the claim online while overseas
If you have never visited Centrelink before, please make sure you do this prior to you leaving Australia, so you can provide a prove of your identity. If you have a partner, you both should do this together.
then while you are overseas, and you took all the previously listed steps, it will be so much easier to make your claim online
If however you have not taken the above listed steps and you are already overseas, the process is a bit more difficult and you have the following choices:
You complete the correct form designed for the country you moved to. Centrelink has created specific forms for each of the countries previously listed, so please make sure you pick up a correct form from the Centrelink website.
you can call the social security authorities in the country you reside now.
or you can apply via international services line 131 673

Which country are you thinking to move to and why?
Katherine.. I have been living in Thailand for 4 years now
Uruguay
Leaving OZ because its finished.....
Hello Katherine, thank you for your video it was most informative.
But for me like Pauly I am living in a country that doesn’t have an agreement (Thailand).. and again like Pauly am hearing about the 2 year return to Australia..so I think there will be many expats looking forward to you video addressing our situation.. Regards Mark
For me, I believe retirees who struggle to meet their basic needs are the ones who could not accumulate enough money during their active years to meet their needs. Retirement choices determine a lot of things. My wife and I both spent same number of years in the civil service, she invested through a wealth manager and myself through the 401k. We both still earning after our retirement.
It's unfortunate most people don't have such information. I don't really blame people who panic. Lack of information can be a big hurdle. I've been making more than $760k by just investing through an advisor, and I don't have to do much work. Doesn't matter if the economy is misbehaving; great wealth managers will always make returns.
My advisor is JENNY PAMOGAS CANAYA highly qualified and experienced in the financial market. She has extensive knowledge of portfolio diversity and is considered an expert in the field. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financial market.
Yes Katherine! I have been watching your videos as they are very informative. Could you make some videos on Italy, Spain & Portugal as I am planning to retire soon. I may not eligible for age pension but would like to plan ahead with my finance & preparation for part pension in my later years.
Do I have to be in Australia. For a certain amount of time prior to claiming Australian pension. Also after getting pension do I need to stay in Australia
I am understanding that you have to live in Australia for two years before claiming a pension in a NON agreement country?
Hi Pauly, correct, but only partly. As usual Centrelink makes it more complex then this, so applicaiton from non agreement countries is coming soon 😀
Any idea when@@AboutRetirementTV
How about those people who were born before independence in the former Australian Territory of Papua who were Australian Citizens according to the Australian Citizenship Act of 2007, section 4(1( (b), who never lost their Australian Citizenship are they eligible.
Just wondering if you are travelling overseas before you apply for aged pension (if you retired early to live off savings for example) how long do you need to spend in australia each year before you apply for the pension if you are not in Australia all year but you are in a non agreement country for part of each year please? Trying to avoid the 2 year in Australia pension rule. Thanks in advance
Hey, can you make video on topic TBAR 🙏
Hi there. Wondering if you need to be a resident in the country if you apply overseas. Ie could you like in Thailand and ho yo italy on holiday to apply for pension please? Thanks.

Must be in Australia and not leave at the time of applying
Hi ma'am I have one question.
What is limit of amount of money one can have in accumulation super account ?
I’m receiving Australian pension has been for 4 years I’m planning moving back to my country of birth in my old age is it possible to continues to receive my pension as my country has not agreement in regard of receiving pension your information will be much help for my decision to make my move
Thank you
I am gutted to only just find out that when I reach retirement age I will not be able to apply for the Australian pension, and that's after working and living here for most of my life (40 years). This is just disgraceful! I am moving back to the UK next year at the age of 59, so I will be pensionless in both countries. How on earth does Australia get away with this?????? and what can be done? Funny how China and UK are not on the list, these are probably the two biggest tax payers in Australia!
I am sure you will get a Australian pension, please research more. Only if you have a lot of income or assets you will not get the australian pension. You may also back pay into the uk pension if self employed.
Just withdraw all your money from super a move overseas
