I recently discovered the Radtel 470-X, and now I have a pair of them. They have many nice features, a very good reciever, with a clear transmitter. The large color screen is very easy to see at night or while indoors, BUT almost disappears in bright sunlight or when wearing polarized sunglasses! The GOTO Weather Channel are very nice too! Just a push of a programmable button! The frequency & PL Tone scanner & capture feature is very handy! If it were waterproof, it might become my new favorite!
Great video as always- thank you for what you do. Spot-on comment reference "Who cares about spurious signals?" I'm recently retired ATC. I can't tell you the number of times we'd get complaints of interference in the 290 mHz area when talking to a military acft or even worse couldn't talk to them because of interference. My answer to the "who cares?" would be ">>You
@@crashmau5 Ok, I'm cool with that. I'm just a bit enthusiastic about my Kenwood. I'll try to calm down and not act like an advertising exec for Kenwood. I do get like that sometimes.
Also if you get this radio and probably any Radtel there are 2 screen protectors on them. The big one that is obvious and you will notice the screen will scratch easily after removing it because there is another one that fits the screen perfectly but it will peel off if you start at the corner and reveals a very nice glossy screen.
I have two tri band radios, one is the AnyTone 578UV III Plus and the other is a Baofeng AR-5RM and that one I use mostly for monitoring multiple repeaters.
Aloha Jason, I bought a pair of the Baofeng A-58s Tri Bander that does 10w before it became the BF-A58s at 5 watts and it has been my “go to” HT ever since. It’s too bad that had only a short run of these from the factory a couple years ago but I may try this radio as a backup HT at $30 USD. 🤙🏻
I have this radio, squelch stays open for about a second on repeaters. Wound up programming it RX only and gave it to my kid to get him interested in the hobby
Hello I'm assuming your in Kentucky since your close to Louisville, I'm live in KY Richmond to be exact but I just bought the radio tour showing now and I don't know a thing about ham radios. My question is where can I go online to learn about ham radios, free would be great considering I'm low income. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I have the rt-470x
The fourth (really the first) reason to use a clean radio is that Part 97 forbids the use of radios that exceed permitted spurious emission levels, which that radio obviously does. It can not be legally operated on 2 meters or 70cm..
You asked if we have tri-banders what we have, I have a Kenwood TH-F6A, and a Tyt Th-350. The Kenwood is what I use the most, as I've had all sorts of battery issues with the 350. Curious if you'll be reviewing the new Alinco 220 mobile, or if it's pretty much the same as the DR-235 just better dressed and with a new model number.
I bought 2 Kenwood TH-F6A HTs when they just came out. I like 1.25 meters but it is sorely under used. For a very long time even your "all band, all mode" radios didn't include it. For those of us with 220 MHz capability it's like having your own private band.
On one hand, it's awesome that 1.25m has really become the cool band to be on in my city, several repeaters, one of the biggest nets. OTOH it means no more private band for myself and a friend or two 😂
Jolly nice review Jason.....thanks! 👍 But I do have a question. Why do people say the 2 meter band but insist on saying 440 (or 220)? 440 is not a band, it is a frequency. They should be saying the 70 centimeter band. This is how bad habits develop and passed on to others. I know, here come the sad ham comments! 😩

One thing you failed to state is that this radio is unlocked you can transmit on more frequencies than it states. You can transmit on the weather frequencies. All of you who have this HT check all the frequencies that you can transmit on. You can go above all of the frequencies that it says it works on.
I looked up the Radtel 470-X on the link you provided and it did not mention that it supported the 220 Mhz band plus has a lot of returns. Is this the same model that you tested or is it the model 470L which does mention that it supports the 220Mhz band?
It is, the amazon listing isn't quite accurate. The chart at the bottom of the amazon page does imply that the 470x is vhf/uhf only, but mine was delivered today (same amazon listing), and 1.25m works as expected for a tri-band
I came across your channel as a person with zero radio experience while looking into purchasing a Rapid Radio to communicate with my family. Recently during hurricane Beryl, cell phone communication was not possible. Not having contact with my family was worse than being without power in July Texas heat. Could you recommend a radio that can be used in the future? I live in Galveston and have family in Missouri City, Houston, and Livingston that I need to be able to contact in the case of a similar situation in the future. Will you please provide a radio recommendation? I was about to be scammed prior to watching your video about the $70 radio on Rapid Radio. I’ve watched several of your videos before commenting and it is clear to me that you are an expert. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!
I sure like Radtel products! One thing though and maybe Ham Radio 2.0 can advise their design engineers is that they are putting a lot of unusable spectrum on these radios. 500-650 MHz is worthless in the US as that is where Digital Television lays. These Chinese radios are starting to offer voice coverage into that range. Additionally, They are giving us 250-350 MHz but in FM. That are should be AM as its used by Military Aviation. Go look at FWJRB or US Armed Forces on radioreference, They are primarily using 225-380 MHz in AM. If we could get these guys to correct that, I'd bet Radtel would become the new Baofeng!
I bought it but all that I heard here is totalyl greek to me, I am a total amateur of radio amateurism. Can someone direct me to some videos to understand the possibilities of my Radte lRT-470X better? Thanks.
use repeaterbook to look up repeaters in your area, then look up a video about setting up a baofeng for use on a repeater. the menu numbers will different, but the actual menu options are easy to interpret between brands. Set up your radtel, and say hi!
I agree with the this guy, can't do anything about people talking on these radios. I have two Baofengs but I won't talk on them. Someone gave them to me. One thing I don't like about almost all inexpensive Chinese rigs is they don't have an ext. DC jack, or DC in as Kenwood calls it. This is critical for me as I can plug in a cig adaptor in my car and keep from draining the radio battery. Also I have a AGM 12 volt battery (size of a motorcycle battery) and I can plug in a barrel adaptor from the battery into my any of my traditional radios to power them in an emergency or whatever. Can't do that with most, if not all of the Chinese radios.

Since you are a 220 fan, like myself, I would like to see a video comparing all of these tri-banders and see who's the best.
