- Finally, some hard facts right from Lamborghini.
The Italian supercar-maker has announced details on its new V12 power plant which is expected to debut in the upcoming Murcielago replacement recently speculated to be named Aventador.
The new engine is a naturally aspirated 6.5 liter V12, known internally as the L539, with a total output of 515 kW (700 PS) at 8,250 rpm and 690 Nm of torque available at an engine speed of 5,500 rpm.
The new V12 was developed by Lamborghini at its Sant'Agata Bolognese facility. It comes with a classic cylinder bank of 60 degrees and is compact - measuring 665 millimeters tall, 848 mm wide and 784 mm in length. It has a bore diameter of 95 mm and a cylinder stroke of 76.5 mm. The nitride-hardened crankshaft weighs just 24.6 kg while the engine weighs a total of 234 kg.
The 6.5 liter V12 also comes with two mufflers in a single casing - one low-volume and the other high for that pitch-perfect Lambo sound.
Also newly developed to accompany this engine is the ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) transmission. A 7-speed, single clutch gearbox with exceptionally quick shift times due to the independent shifting rods - Lamborghini claims almost 50 percent less than a standard dual-clutch gearbox. The independent shift rods work similar in concept to a dual-clutch - as one rod is disengaging the current gear, the second rod is already engaging the next one.
Weight reduction is a theme here too, as the new gearbox weighs in at just 70 kg.
The transmission comes with three driver settings - Strada, Sport and Corsa mode - with Corsa mode made for high-performance driving that also includes a launch control function.

Lamborghini Aventador was born
Nice to see my video recommended because of this one! RUclips works! :)
Beautiful Piece of Master V12 Engine
It is sad to see the old Lambo V12 engine go but the motor industry is about development, evolving and revolving and I will happily accept that. I hope that this engine will follow on the heritage way into the future until the next V12 comes along.
Where is the asssembly? I see only multiple views of something moving.
I Love the Lamborghini Aventador and the rest of Lamborghini but people stop hating on GM and American cars in general. They're getting their shit together and starting to make better cars.
Boy im about to build me a lamborghini
Coisa linda!!
My good friend has 5 of these engines in his shop. even a "vtec" diablo sv motor. They are pretty good and decent packaging. its just now 12 cylinders are a bit much these days. the higher mechanical losses from moving 12 cylinder long crank and cams deals a blow. but the sound is amazing.
Beautiful...just beautiful!!!
@GamePlaya19 yeah they are all the old engines but I'll see what the "real" changes they made when one of these limps into the shop. I hope they redesigned the oil pump for one. and lambo did make a variable valve timing motor in 98 for the diablo sv. its a sweet motor. the four intakes is a sweet design I'd like to see how they flow.
Wow what an engine
@Bassstringz Manly as hell
Nice six cylinders engine..machine block and moving parts with engine performance bench..are there no assembling line?
Long live the Aventador! 🫡
Masterpiece...
beautiful...
This is passion!
I cant wait to hear the sexy beast out in the road
2:44 that engine is a beast.
REAL POWER
I watched a program on the history of Lambo a long time ago...it was awesome. But I was amazed how many times it changed hands... I think its best owned by Volkswagon, they appear to know how to run a company well...
@mikasaur
They've had that in motorracing for decades.
Also, the BMW V12 in the McLaren F1 LM (only 5 made) could rev up to 8500rpm too back in 1995. It made 680hp from a 6,0 litre V12. That engine was good enough to win the 24 hour LeMans race in 1995.
cool story bro, tell'em to keep it up
it's an open deck block. open people not closed that's why they blow under boost.
@2003SCT whats it got to do with bibles? i wish i picked mine up more often.
absolute beauty
@TheDealinDave Yeah it definitely looks like a nice unit.
@Einsteinbomb do you think that chevy volt is overpriced?
Is that frame at the end the entire engine?
Pure art!
This, is art.
Nice engine
I love v12 engines twin turbo.!
Someone pass me a towel, I think I drooled a little.
@viperxraptor2001 Not back then. Now yes.
@Einsteinbomb would you pick a gas saver, Honda civic or volt?
an engine that has v12 twin turbo over 500-700 bhp and can do 7000-9000 rpm,, is a beast and that beast was called LAMBORGHINI!!!!!
Mostruoso propulsore V 12 . Lamborghini e sempre Lambo the best 😍👍❤❤❤❤❤
i love this music
Monster!
Wow nice
@MattiaSanta and damn good CARIBOU at that
That wad better than the avatar movie
i need one of those engines and drop it in my smart car lmfao
Buenísimo el motor, por cierto, como se llama la música de fondo?
@JLew314
read 1001 RELIABLE hp. Bugatti saw over 1300hp in testing but knew that designing a reliable semi-auto gearbox that could take 1001hp for years was difficult enough, and the last they need is some insanely tuned engine which requires loads of service and is practically undrivable for anything but racecar pros.
700hp from a 6,5 litre engine is 107,7hp/litre. Plenty of manafacturers have achieved that. Ferrari F355 had 380hp from a 3,5litre V8 back in 1994, which is 108,6hp/litre.
@kartkidd Both play a part, more moving parts = harder to get higher RPM, larger displacement = more weight moving so again harder to get higher RPM.
and the displacement is about 6.5l so again impressive.
@marek0086
Ohh...I wasn't aware you could see into the future. Good luck with that.
The BEST Engine ever!!
very nise
Masterpiece
Aluminum alloys usually for racing engines and cast iron for mass production engines.
And like this the beast is born...
is that four valves per cylinder i see
@TheDealinDave everything has variable valve timeing. vtec is just a two phase camshaft, but not vvt.
nice
THIS THING IS LIGHTER THAN THE 2JZ!
@craig9569 do you write this in every lamborghini video??
kilograms is a weight... your thinking of volume or surface area?
@leloodallasmultipass its a V12 they have even firing between the cylinders, much like a flat-plane V8 (F430) this gives the high pitched sound. Crossplane V8's (small block and most others) have the burble sound due to uneven firing order between the two banks.
@cockyhotty I am comparing the sound to a motorcycle's which is a high pitched one like this, but the rpms are closer to 11,000 on the top end. A lot of well tuned v8s get up to 8500 and don't sound anything like this. Most v8s are redlining at or below 7k but even at 7k the lambo sounds like a drill.
Mori Seki can manufacture 12 cylinder engines from cast for the $450,000.00 Lamborghini Aventador named after an Italian Bull in 5 Axis machines.
whats the song name? anyone pls tell me...
putting that engine cover on this is like putting carmen electra in a sumo suit.
@Jontenn yes becouse bush was a mutch better choise righ?
@xaviqaz It was meant as a comical remark, I always knew there is a strong opposition against Berlusconi, but the facts you pointed out, I did not know. So thanks!
@miketothesupra
They're starting to make better cars ever since they got bailed out. I totally agree with you that at one point GM made horrible cars with poor production results and poor quality that would break down in a faction of the time as most Japanese cars would. But, GM at the time was under poor leadership and since then has started to finally put more time and effort in their craftsmanship to introduce cars like the revolutionary Chevy Volt.
Only at Lamborghini they can make a Engine look like a Symphony
Good
@MattiaSanta I'm canadian and find that funny! lol.
My friend ordered a aventador and he gets it in August! I thought it would be very expensive but it is cheaper than LP-670! About 3 million SEK ($ 500 000)
@MrRustydan Bugatti Veyron's W-16 quad-turbo is a beast. the W format on the bugatti is more like two banks of V-8s
Please tell me there were not 4 air intakes, on the contrary, Lamborghini can make a damn good engine! Cant wait to see it in the Aventador
@mbonnar This car IS german as much as it's Italian. those are VW coilpacks you see on top of that engine. Don't ever forget VW is calling the shots when it comes to Lamborghini. The 2.5 liter 5 cylinder VW engine is almost mechanically identical to half the 5 liter lambo v10.
at last ! another pure design of reventon DNA.The LP560-4 and LP640 was,u know,the design is not that pure,this one is a pure DNA.
What are this engines made off? Titanium? Gold? What kind of alloys? This is just beautiful!
P.O.W.E.R!
yes yes that is all good...but will it blend?
1:58, Moo Of The Devil Bull !!! !!!
@ChristianSold1er
I meant both performance wise and quality. Look at the Ford Focus and the Ford Fiesta as great new American cars. Compare them to the last decade in cars and you'll see the difference.
But will it blend?
There's a sweet doco about how they build Lambo Murcielago from Discovery Channel.
@tried12usernames this engine just got 30hp more than the last V12 and the new car (aventador?) will be +-230kg lighter than the murcielago... a great improvement in my opinion
ESTO ES UN MOTOR!!!
@jshooly 700 hp out of a N/A engine is pretty damn impressive. Look at the bugatti veyron, it has 4 turbos and 4 more cylinders and only gets 300 more hp.
@Einsteinbomb they are still just cars with big motors that go strait in corners...
what is it about the way this engine is designed that makes it sound as high pitched as it does? is it the exhaust? the valves? it has tons of capacity but doesn't sound like a deep v8 like a big block chevy or something. why not? I used to think it was rpms but the engine clearly only goes up to 8500...
anyone know?
00201289226425
It has the capacity and then all that Exhaust is pushed into those tiny pipes so its in essence like a whistle
@jorehir yeah they start with "only" 700 hp but they will be even more powerfull versions of it in the future, the previous engine was used more than 20 years ago, and im sure it didnt produce 670hp 20 years ago... but yes amazing engineering, although im sure the germans had something to do with it.
whoa
I don't get why the description says weights xx kg, kg isn't a weight its a mass.
@marek0086
Hopefully the next generation of American cars will be ever better than today's American automobile.
So that's what a bulls heart looks like
@martinhribar
The Chevy Volt and the new line of hybrids are not huge gas-guzzler's with big motors such as in the past. American cars are starting to change and it won't happen over night but it'll happen.
you failed to show raw stock start.
Bella anche la colonna sonora del video..qualcuno la conosce?
@ChristianSold1er
Yes, but you're comparing them to the older American models, that's how you know cars are getting better. Comparing a Chevy Malibu in 2011 to the one in 2001 is large difference in mileage and reliability.
@jshooly The 84 Buick V-6 with rocker shafts, had terrible valve geometry. (what yr. are you referring to) These engines were designed to chew-out the valve guides, then your oil gets all white and gooey with blowby. A Mazda V-6, on the other hand will easily hit 300 000 km if you don't over rev it. This 92 engine (150 hp) has only 4 mains, and that is skimpy. The OHC shim and bucket valvetrain is possibly the best. With Amsoil, perhaps 8500 rpm is an all day reality. No?
700 hp 1500kg this is starting to get interesting bring it and the new 599 hybrid aswell
@leloodallasmultipass
It`s the high compression ratio and the effective breathing of the engine that makes it sound like that. Unlike the rough Camaro V8, it`snt got just 2 valves per cylinder and just one camshaft. It`s a highly sophisticated power plant, in which many factors have been taken into account. This is the sound of efficient excellent work of the combustion engine. Why do you think 8500 rpm are not very high rate? They burn this engine all day long at 8500 testing it to last a lot.
