I was in school in the 1950's and 1960's. Memphis TN. Awesome food cooked on site. Beef stew, puffy rolls, pies, cake, choice of chocolate or regular milk. In high school we had BBQ sandwiches with coleslaw and fries. Cinnamon buns with lots of icing. Coca Cola and other bottled beverages. We could even get sweetened iced tea. The list goes on and on. Miss those good meals. My mother grew up during the depression and that was another story. They could not afford school lunches (their mother was in the hospital with an infected arm for nearly a year (pre antibiotics). Their father couldn't find work. Mom talked about eating a handful of unshelled pecans one day. That's all they had for the day. Mom's grandmother came up from MS and saved the day for a while. She brought a lot of food she had canned and taught Mom how to cook efficiently. My dad grew up on a farm and had plenty to eat. He graduated in 1937. They carried their lunches in buckets with handles. Usually, a big biscuit, slice of meat and some beans.

Correction: Australian's have never experienced school lunch so your claim is incorrect. We either packed a lunch or starved.
*You could beat up a fellow scholar for food
*We also had something called "food-orders" where we put cash in an envelope with our request to the lical fish and chippy and gave it to the teacher during homeroom.
But since most kids were poor as poop it was the wild west of not starving to death.

Gatorade not gonna happen. Apple juice still going strong, capri sun and some other drinks like Tab. 90s Mickey Ds wasn’t going to happen and it taste better back then and worth it at that time. Now it sucks and that wasn’t a school lunch it was off site. Not sure what state you are grabbing the list from.. but the list are really off. lol. The 20s school lunch was from home mostly and 30s because of depression and dividing the food with stamps. Also, many kids in that time wasn’t going to school in the 30s during the dust storms so their food even more limited.

I was born in the early 90s. Lived in a small town so we didn’t have McDonalds at the schooI. I remember when they would have mashed potatoes with gravy and chicken. Sooo good! With those vanilla/chocolate push pops. I miss the good old days. 😅

A little disappointed in this video. They judged so many things from cheap canned food and not fresh made soups and such. I can assure you they didn't use Campbell's soup at schools in the early 1900's. Things were made from scratch.

Hey, We didn't get that kinda lunch in the 70's.
Everything was frozen or canned to heat. We got box milk or once a week box chocolate milk.

Growing up, my mom made meatloaf often (like once a week cuz it was my dad’s fave lol). My dad would take meatloaf sandwiches to work for his lunch for 2 days after 😂

I dunno I think kids in the 1910s would be mostly looking forward to any food haha while not everyone was extremely poor, more people had far less back then than they do today.
Even today some kids would devour that shit cause they dont eat at home.

Jake talking about the meatloaf and saying "its almost like a hamburger patty kinda like ground beef" was cringe af. Ground beef is exactly what meatloaf is i love y'all but you need to educate yourselves a lil more if you gonna have a food channel

My wife is in charge of food service for a school district. The federal government has regulated it to the point that unless your school is very well staffed they have no choice but to buy everything premade from vendors. And it is made to hit the nutrition numbers that were set during the michelle obama initiative but it is absolute horse shit food... very sad what could be done with the budget and what is actually done due to a jumbled bureaucratic mess of a system.. She was able to implement a great salad bar that is available for all; but getting kids to eat that is very hard.

Damn. This is so low effort. It's modern day canned food and some crap they threw together, lumping it all together into a decade of food. Are you guys running out of TN content? Sad.

Why are all the awesome logos on the back of shirts? Shouldn’t they be on the front of shirts? That way you have a conversation piece when you meet people?
