wow. i was born and raised at Olongapo city, i was born 1989 so i really cant remember how the Pinatubo erruption damaged most districts of zambales. i was only two years old that time and my Mother keep on telling me all the stories about it, this vid gave me clues of my roots . My wife is from the Philippines and she remembers when Pinatubo erupted. I have a deep love for the people of the Philippines and it hurts to see them suffer. I experienced the Taal eruption and I am thankful that my wife was with her family in Meycauayan, Bulacan because she would have panicked so much especially with all of the earthquakes that were caused from the movement from the magma. It's good that our house is about 19k (approx 12 miles) from the main crater of Taal and I don't remember how many times the house shook from the earthquakes. Our house was covered with ash and it was mixed in the rain. I know that it doesn't compare with Pinatubo but I know how it feels to be close to an erupting volcano. Hopefully there are no more eruptions from any volcanoes for a very long time again in the Philippines.
Such sad memories. I was there, at Subic Bay in the Navy when Pinatubo erupted. Olongapo City and surrounding areas, as well as Naval Station Subic Bay and Naval Air Station Cubi Point we're devastated. I remember everything was covered in ash, including the jungles and trees. It was like being on the moon. I will always remember my Filipino friends who died and were injured, and those who lost everything. I miss being there, and the Filipino people, absolutely wonderful people!

Thanks for the video. I was stationed at Cubi Pt, Subic Bay. I lived in town on Norton St. in Olongapo city just a little ways from the base. It was a living hell throughout the night wondering if we were going to servive. Brought back memories like it was yesterday.

I saw these too, I was on vacation from the States when this eruption happened. I couldn't understand why it was so dark at 3'0pm. After we were told of the eruption, I volunteered with the DSW to bring food to these places. This was where we passed on our way to one of the barrios, amazingly people were still smiling everywhere. I have seen indigenous people of the Philippines for the first time. It humbled me to see that they needed only few things to live.
i was 2 years old when that happened, i was with my mom in manila. after the erruption we migrated to germany. in 2005 i visited subic bay and we drove past mt. pinatubo. it was a strange feeling to have a holiday in a place where a volcano errupted years ago and where people were killed...i couldnt really enjoy my holiday.

we were in the philippines visiting my grandparents when it erupted! i remember my uncle getting mad at my cousins because he thought they'd been playing with sugar and then it was raining ash. we used to go to a resort close to pinatubo when i was younger and it was destroyed. really sad.
I was filming a documentary in the Philippines during the eruption of the Mount Pinatubo in 1991. I remember espesially one morning when traveling by jeep to the area. We pulled over to the side of the road and my colleague pointed to the sky and shouted "look!". When I did it looked as if somebody had detonated an atomic bomd a few miles away! A horrific but beautiful ash cloud, covering the sun. I didn't have my video camera near by(!) but I did get a few shots with my still camera! Memories..

I remember then the time Mt Pinatubo erupted.I was at 20 and working as an electrician in Manila Philippines....I used to commute a passenger jeepney evryday until all of us passenger noticed that we got teary eyed due to volcanic ashes....Imagine almost zero visibility at 20 meters....And right after I got home,our house simply covered by ash same as to my room which i forgot to close the windows Right now i'm married with 3 children and often told stories about pinatubo to my kids.....
I remember when this happended i was living in Subic and my mom brother and i got evacuated on the Abraham Lincoln and my dad stayed behind then after about 6 months we got to go back but it was never the same i miss Subic sometimes met a ton of friends that i still talk to today.

I was 6 years old. We lived in Marikina back then (before it became a city). All I could remember was that they announced the Pinatubo erupted and that we can't eat the fruits of the guava tree nearby because of the ash falls that affected us too. We moved in Sn. Fdo. Pampanga when I was 10 (1995). I saw Porac and Bacolor. Olongapo was looking better then. But Bacolor and Porac was still worse.U could only see rooftops. There was a Catholic Church where you could almost jump to touch the roof.

I don’t know what is the lesson name but I think that’s the lesson about. I’m studying in PSD (Philippine School Doha) and I’m a Filipino born in Qatar ;)

My wife and Daughters went on a carrier to cebu, then to Oregon. VC-5 we flew all over. Got back and helped cleanup.

i remember this as a kid in the tv . in some areas there was absolute dark and huge dust fallout just like in Dante's Peak movie.

1st eyar high school ako nun pinauwi kmi ng mga teacher lumilindol pa nun, grabe tanghali naging gabi, walang katapusan linis ng bubung ng bahay, tapos ang haba ng bilihan ng pandesal nun as in...... panic food non... taga cabalan ako kung saan sila tinapon ang mga kababayan nating aita, sila ang nag evacute sa school namin... na ngayon nsa iram na...

bago kami pupunta dito sa VA,BEACH pumunta ako sa Poonbato at nanghiram ako ng damit ni Apo Apang dinala namin that was 1990 naririnig ko sa mga pasahero sa jeep na pinapaalis daw sila dahil may sinsabi ng volcanologist na puputok ang volcano sabi naman ng iba tsismis lang daw ,sabi ko kung volcanologist na ang nagsabi i maniwala kayo, ngnandito na kami sa Va, beach i totoo nga.
