I was a fan of the original AFL (pre 2009 fold). Been a Rattlers fan since 1997. I didn't understand it at first when AZ left for the IFL after 2016, but now I totally get it. This new version is a joke. I've learned to love the game without rebound nets and it actually makes the game faster and less hazardous to a returner as they wouldn't have their backs to the oncoming kicking team.

Apparently they rushed this league back on the field and it's been absolute chaos as I think multiple teams have folded or are about to fold and it just got started. It's like the UFL with the USFL and XFL merging where they dropped half the teams and started their season earlier so NBC dropped them. The UFL is itself a twice failed league identity and I cannot understand why they didn't go with something new and dynamic like there USXFL. But the merger wasn't as smooth as many believe and it was only slightly better than the AFL rebirth but at least FOX is backing them with their vast resources and will be both expanding for 2025 and selling their teams to individual owners.
But the AFL I think was doomed before they even got started and that scene you showed of the Voodoo's goal post was the least of their problems.

I was young when the Portland steel was in the AFL. Now, the Oregon blackbears are doing better than Portland could ever do

The Blackbears shouldn’t last the season. The operation is a wreck. For the second week in a row, the visiting team has bowed out because of unsafe equipment in the Expo Center. The league… already established in the video. I’m curious if we’ll even be told that the team folded… or all but folded.
BTW, the Steel lasted a year. No guarantees with Salem… or anyone else.

BACK IN 1987 WHEN THE LEAGUE STARTED. IT WAS A GREAT IDEA , THE LEAGUE WAS SUCCESSFUL. THE AFL HAD A CONTACT WITH NBC AND CABLE OUTLETS. AFL HAD A VIDEO GAME FOR 3 SEASON. THEY HAD ARENA 2 LEAGUE GOING STRONG. WHAT HAPPEN ? GREED HAPPEN IN 2016. THE LEAGUE WAS DOING WELL FOR 30 YEARS. ITS SO SAD WHAT HAPPEN TO THE LEAGUE. THE IFL IS THE LEAGUE TO WATCH NOW. BUT I MISS THOSE GOOD OLD DAYS WITH THE AFL. I HOPE THE AFL MERGE THE IFL SOON. IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A 40 TEAM LEAGUE. THE IFL COMMISSIONER SHOULD RUN THE NEW MERGE LEAGUE . THE AFL COMMISSIONER SHOULD BE THE ASST. COMMISSIONER OF THE NEW MERGE LEAGUE. I HOPE THE AFL CAN GET IT TOGETHER SOON. IF NOT THEY'ER DOOMED!!!

I've heard that the AFL commissioner is hated league-wide for his inability to communicate with the owners and the public. I don't think it would ever come to this but I don't want that guy infecting the IFL like he's doing the AFL 3.0

The IFL wants nothing to do with Lee Hutton. In fact, Hutton should be in prison asap

If the AFL commissioner is that BAD !! get rid of his ass!!! I wish NFL would take over the IFL & AFL. invest $500,000 per team and build a 7,000 -8,000 seat capacity outdoor stadiums on a 50 yard grass field. It would look nice on TV with a packed house on grass fields. Start season in early April and the championship game on Labor day weekend. With a 18 game season. 8 men football with only 25 player roster. The players salaries would be like the UFL. You know how much money they would save. Real football is 11 on 11 men football and that's played in the fall. I love the USFL,XFL and the UFL. But it takes big money to run those league. If they take the 8 men football outside We would have snow games , Muddy games ,cold games and perfect weather games in a packed stadium. It will look like the playing fields of the NFL in the 1960's & 70's. But the athletes of today. Believe me if that happens and they get a TV contract like the AFL had in '90's & 2000's , Boy oh Boy !!! If the 50 yard war on grass outside take place in a small stadium near you !!!
