What surprised you the most, contrary to what you expected?
I'll go first: I didn't think SF would have such a high %age of startups getting accepted. 63% is just too high.
For me it's 82% of the accepted companies are AI-focused, I thought it's estimated to be around 50-60%.

Bro getting funded means something else and paying those funds is something else. Start-ups usually don't make profits.

I think most of the AI is going to be used in backend and simplifying existing processes
If operators succeed, it is highly possible that people start building and optimising for those agents which, obviously, doesn't need to have frontend.

The other day I was working on Azure creating a virtual Machine and the “free” version gives you 1G of ram and 1G of HD space. Honestly I wouldn’t even run. The point is that the next best models got into the hundreds of dollars per month and then millions…it seemed like a bit of a scam. I’m assuming they’re basically ripping people off. I wouldn’t doubt someone smart figured out how to do the same thing for cheap. Not to mention they’re not paying for the data they’re just basically stealing. If they’re getting free data then the majority of the cost should be in compute power. Millions and billions to train a model never made sense to me.
Wait, did we all just sleep on synthetic biology? AI-powered microbes for sustainable mining and next-gen antibiotics sound WAY cooler than another AI email assistant. 🔬🧬
