- This is the last part of the halter training series for my donkey Rocketman. He now accepts the halter and is starting to lead!
Incorporating +R and liberty were key in getting him to start to trust me. He still gets unsure but I can halter him now anywhere, anytime!

This is very helpful. I'm a new mini donkey owner and she was so scared of me at first. Now I can pet her, treat her, even touch her legs. She will back up a few paces if i touch a leg. She needs her hooves attended to very soon but is halter shy. Halter terrified more like it! I can touch her with the lead now most of the time. I will start trying the halter again with these techniques.
+R is so good for scared donkeys.. she'll come around!

When you are leading him and going for a walk what do you do if he spooks and tries to run? Mine did that to me when we were walking in the yard and he freaked out over an umbrella.
What kind of treats do you use?
Different ones.. as long as they are no sugar I like to mix them up so the donkeys don’t get bored
What do you use for training treats! Love your patience and attitude with them.
Usually low stach treats from manna pro
How many times a week do you do these training sessions with him?
I worked with him 4 to 5 days a week. Short sessions.
